  1. Today was shopping day or "filling in the corners" of my pantry and freezers. I also purchased my yearly state park pass (it gives entry into any park in the state for free). Took my four-legged baby for a walk at said park (closest to my home). I then came home and put the goods away and am now watching Inspector Lindsey.  It's gorgeous outside but I'm now done. My ankle has been bothering me since our Labor Day weekend over a month ago. When it bothers me, I prop it up. I've got to take our daughter to an appointment in the morning but after that, I can be home pretty much the rest of the week for which I am HIGHLY grateful. Seems like I've lived in my Rover for the past two weeks what with all the comings and goings. I can't wait to stay still.

    What are Y'ALL up to?

  2. It's so hard to believe we're already two days into October! Where has the time gone?!! It's still pretty warm but there is definitely the hint of a cooling off. I've spent the last week slowly refilling my deep freezer and pantry. Not sure what the political, financial, and health (covid, flu, RSV, etc) climate will be so I'm just prepping. I have completed my physicals, dental appt, and vision so no surprises there.

Seems like now is just a prep and waiting game for whatever.

  3. We just got back from a four-day cruise that left out of Miami, Florida. The trip out was dreary, with storms and dreary. That was going from Columbia, South Carolina, to Charlotte, North Carolina. By the time we got to Florida it was sweltering. The ship was sunny, almost like a separate country. But the third day out was rainy and cloudy out in the Atlantic, then it cleared up when we reached Nassau. When we caught our flight it was dreary yet again!

The temps are now more typical for our location, it's cool in the morning, warming by afternoon but we can feel the change. I'm so glad!

Today will be sunny and a bit warm but I won't complain. Just a few more days and then our "cool streak" will be here for good I think.

Who could be unhappy with steak, potatoes and cake? 😄

Are you making the cakes yourself or buying them ready made?

I enjoy Christmas preparation but I’ve never had the stress of having to host - I’m sure I’d feel differently if everyone was coming to my house!

I'll be making pound cakes. My family can't get enough of them!

  5. My Christmas planning will be extremely simple. I've already let everyone know that I'm not hosting. I'll have a small dinner of steaks, potatoes, etc, and a couple of cakes for family members. The grands will get one big gift. I'll put the tree up but have no plans to put gifts under the tree. I really want peace and quiet this year.

Am a teeny bit confused about certain aspects of the ending. The role played by a particular individual, am unclear about. Am probably a bit dumb... 😅

Not dumb at all! I didn't catch it til my second reading. Read the last chapter again and look for the conversation between the therapist son and his estranged wife.

Anyone read a Banquet of consequences? Definitely one of Elizabeth's best books. Good action, keeping me guessing, great descriptive skills by our author, who knows such a great deal about English life in modern times.

I've read it a few times and it is definitely one of her best! And the ending was NOT what I was expecting!

  8. This is my goody boy, Savo. First pic was him graduating from his beginner's obedience (she almost UN-graduated him! 🤣) class. The second pic is when I was finally able to get him to smile at the camera. Last pic is him after trying some doggy CBD. He could barely get his head off the backseat!! 🤣

  9. I've spent the last few days prepping for the new year. I took down the decorations the day after Christmas and spent a couple of days filing in the new planner and setting up the new budget. I love the feeling of accomplishment coming into a new year. I'm also preparing for our anniversary cruise to Cozumel at the end of the month.

  10. Today is the first day it's not only FELT like fall, but LOOKED like fall! When you live in the southern parts of the US, you take the "fall" feeling where and when you can get it! 😆Lots of swirling, colorful leaves, windy, and cool. I am content. Especially since the rest of the week looks to be almost the same, except for some rain tomorrow.

  11. I went out and voted this morning. I even did some poll watching, such as it was. It was pretty early and not a lot of voter traffic. I called it a day at 0900. Ran into the grocery store to pick up today's dinner and steak for my breakfast.  Got home, cooked, changed clothes. I then collected my four legged son and took him for a walk at the park. Hubby needed me to pick up brake pads for the Rover. I ran into the beauty store for some "magic wrinkle cream" and a few books from the bookstore. I'm now home and this is where I plan to be the remainder of the week.

  12. Grey, rainy, chilly weather. Perfect Sunday weather for staying in and cozy. Hubby lit the fireplace. I didn't think it was cold enough but my mother in law was her and he wanted to make sure she was warm enough. My four-legged son loved it!

First day home after spending three in hospital. Feeling very unwell on Tuesday and hubby ended up ringing 111 for an ambulance Wednesday morning. Turns out new blood pressure med I was given had dropped my sodium levels very low.

Glad you're feeling better and they got it sorted!

I'm sitting in my favorite chair, waiting on the hubby to finish his portion of dinner cooking. My mother and sister in law came up for a visit. Sis in law made a causal mention of coming to visit but didn't remind us so I had ot rush out and get stuff for dinner! Mother in love is ensconced in her favorite recliner watching WWF Wrestling (90 yo) and cackling! Sis in law is in the kitchen harassing her big brother! It's so funny, they are both the youngest of 9. Sister in law came 16 years after my hubby and she was a HUGE surprise!!🤣

The fireplace has been lite and the pup is roasting himself in front of it. It's dreary and drizzly, perfect weather for eating and napping.

@MissMohawkI love your teapot too and my ideal is tea, biscuits and a book - I've read all of Discovery of Witches books and they are incredible!

As for me, trying to keep warm today will be the priority as is reading the new Rebus with a little Bargello.

There's a Facebook group led by the author, Deborah Harkness dedicated to all things Discovery of Witches, Xiao is also apart of it. You should join!

  15. Today is starting off grey and misty with promises of sunnier weather later this afternoon. This morning me, my daughter and six grands are going to a homeschool coop orientation. We're REALLY excited about it! The kids will meet other children and we can start signing them up for classes and field trips. They've been pretty isolated during covid so they are especially ready to mingle.

After the orientation, we may pop over to the State Fair. It's military day so I can get all but two of us in free. If we don't do that, we may go to the zoo. Last month I purchased yearly memberships to the zoo and to the children's interactive museum. I love that we don't have to come out of pocket a $100 per visit (six kids and two adults). The day is before us and promising!

  16. Waiting thru Hurricane Ian. It's cold, wet, windy, and wretched. But I'm thankful that so far we haven't lost electricity although at last county, over 200k in my state (South Carolina) and as of 1700 Eastern time it just made landfall at a Cat 1 but it's slow moving.

I'm sure you only meant this as something funny but please remember that there are actual Christians that are in this forum. I make it a point to not disparage, or disrespect anyone's belief, and I'd appreciate the same courtesy. Thank you.

I was in Devon the week before, what bit did you go to?  We were lucky and got the heatwave!  Glad Lily enjoyed herself, it was interesting watching the various dogs and their reactions to the seas ,they either seem to love it or loathe it.  One man took his border collie down to the water's edge, it stood there with it's feet in the water while he splashed water over it, then once it was done, it turned and walked back onto the beach, as if to say "so what?".  Other dogs loved it and were in and out, and one spaniel was intent on digging big holes.

    I got a bargain at  B & Q the other day, a clematis for £1.00.

My boy hasn't decided if it's something he needs to do. He can swim but he's not a "water" dog. He will turn his bladder off to prevent going to use the bathroom in the rain!🤣

Woah, that was a huge repair bill. You definitely deserved some good news after all that! Phew!

    That would almost be funny.

I was on holiday in Devon last week, so I was definitely cheered up by that. Lilly (my puppy) got to go in the sea for the first time, which was very cute. I also booked this week off work, although I'll just be at home, it's given me a chance to catch up on all the things I keep meaning to do! Extra cheered up when I went to buy a couple of plants from a local shop and was allowed to have one of them for £1.50 instead of £2.20 .

Love getting plants at a discount!!

  19. This week has been pretty flush. I opened the mail yesterday and found a check for $122 from Wells Fargo Bank for some nefarious dealings a few years ago (we dropped them like the plague). I also got a good, long laugh because we got another check, drum roll pleaseeeee! For the shocking amount of $0.76!!! Wohooh!!! AT&T owed me some change. We haven't been with AT&T for over a decade! I deposited, but I laughed the entire time I did it! Then today, hubby got an unexpected check from the Veterans Affairs facility for travel reimbursement. We never thought about it and never requested it. But hey, into the bank it goes!

The biggest blessing just happened. Our Land Rover was in the shop since the first of the month. We were supposed to drive it to Florida to go on our cruise. I had just gotten it out of the shop THAT DAY and after filling up the tank, I was minutes from home when it died on me in the middle of the road, at a stop light, during evening rush hour. So we had to gas up the second SUV and have the Rover towed. We were told they couldn't even TOUCH it til September 8. They called Friday and told me that the cost of repairs (first mechanic really dropped the ball) would run about $2400 BUT they would have it ready this week. I just got a call and was told that our warranty will cover $1300!!!

I'm a happy camper and thank God for the needed financial blessing!!

  20. I cleaned/cleared my desk (actually putting things where they belong, updating my calendar, etc) this morning. Yesterday I deep cleaned and organized my kitchen.

I love the feeling of accomplishment when I complete the mental tasks I set for myself!
