sogs
Anyone read Barnaby Rudge recently ? Been wding my way through it over the past few weeks but only managed to get to chapter 8 so far. Only the secong Dickens book I have read after Great Expectations, but finding this one much harder going. Should I stick with it ?
Von Bek
This was probably the most enjoyable Dickens for me. Even though it has the common salvational ending (I think we accept this now in early Dickens) I think the characters are very well drawn and the story is very interesting, being set in the Gordon riots of the 1780s. I'm not sure why it isn't more well known, as it is much better than some of his well known books, such as Little Dorrit and The Pickwick Papers. I would recommend this one. itsmeagain
It is truly heavy going, though the characters are brilliantly portrayed, but overall it is a rather trying slog I must say.
itsmeagain
I gave up, it became too draining and tedious with its incessant minute details of repeated conversations between the same old characters. Disappointed, I am. Edited April 24, 2013 by itsmeagain
