MissWhitlock
I loved The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. It was such a good story. Anyways, I would very much like a whole box set of HP books, I don't have them yet
atticjnr
you should definatly get them misswhitlock. i take it youve read them all? (its good to see your reading a bit of Discworld aswell btw im a massive discworld fan)
MissWhitlock
Yes, I have, a couple of times. I borrowed them all from missmellow Gracias mi amiga I WAS reading Going Postal, finished it a couple of days ago, the ending was actually quite disappointing. I've only read a couple of discworld books, the whole series is on my list though! That'll take a while...
atticjnr
Ahh that's a shame it wasn't as good at the end. The whole series is on my TBR list. I currently have about 12 or 13 of his books but have only read 6 or 7. What's your favourite so far?
MissWhitlock
I don't know.. I've only read 7 or 8, and I hardly remember the plots of any of them. I reckon the Rincewind ones are pretty hilarious. Rincewind just cracks me up And that hilarious luggage of his.
atticjnr
Yeah, I love Rincewind. Twoflower was a great character but I do love the Luggage. Have you read Sourcery. Rincewind and the Luggage are in it. I read that not so long ago for the first time and I thought it was brilliant.
MissWhitlock
TWOFLOWER! THAT'S the name I was looking for.. Was he the one with the watery blob or something near the end of the disc? ... I have no idea. I can't remember! I've read Sourcery, that's the one with the little kid, right? Yeah, it was brilliant, not sure if its my favourite though but it was definitely a good read. atticjnr
Twoflower is the tourist in the first two discworld books. He is also the original owner of the Luggage and he's really niave about everything. He wants to do everything Rincewind is worried about doing because he knows it will end in trouble. And yeah, Sourcery is the one with the Sourcerer kid who takes over Unseen University. I dunno what my favourite Pratchett book is though tbh. Chimera
Yeah it was surprisingly sad, and I'll be honest I didn't expect so many of them to die Actually, I might get lynched for this but I thought MORE would die, or should have ... Not that I didn't love all the characters but the setting WAS a war, with huge battles and masses of people killed... I feel she didn't go all the way. Yeah I definitely agree, and I think that Tonks and Lupin was harsh, leaving little baby Teddy I think JKR wanted to carry on the 'tradition' of parentless children That did feel rather gratuitous... just so she could set Harry to be his role model and give him that sense of 'history repeating itself' - also I think she felt it would be too neat if only peripheral characters died, although I think she realised that she would be lynched if any of the trio perished! True, but it would have been more believable... I half expected Ron to die by the end... As he really seemed set up to be the self-sacrificed hero from the beginning of the series... It would have torn me to pieces of course, but the ending would seemed less cheesy, less "it's a war and I'm killing relatively important people... but I won't go all the way cause you couldn't take it." Aren't I blood thirsty today? *cracks up* EDIT: Just noticed the posts I'm responding to are on page 8... Obviously haven't been in this thread in a while *laughs* Apologies if it's redundant with newer posts. Kimmy619
I agree that it would have been more believable if Ron or Hermione had died in the end. It would have been been a bit heart breaking though as they both only just came to terms with their feelings for each other I know we all like a happy ending though...! Chimera
Happy endings? Nah, they're totally overrated! *cracks up* Ah well, I probably wouldn't have forgiven her if Harry had died . So my bloodthirst does have limits
Kimmy619
Ha Ha - I think that there would have been an outrage if that happened!
MissWhitlock
I reckon not one of the trio but like..Ginny or something. Someone CLOSE to the trio, maybe?
Rawr
I was certain that Ron was going to die throughout, i don't know why, just always thought he'd sacrifice himself saving Hermione or something as he seemed the noble type idk, glad he didn't
MissWhitlock
Yeah, that or Dying to save Ginny or Harry. I was certain Hagrid was gonna die though. I have no idea why.
Kimmy619
I thought that maybe Hagrid or someone close to Harry would die if only to shock the reader
MissWhitlock
I just thought Hagrid or someone close would die just for us to feel that the Dark Lord (dun dun DUN) IS overtaking, that the situation they're in is THAT horrible.
Kimmy619
Do you think that if Hagrid or someone had died instead of or as well as Lupin & Tonks etc that the ending would have been better?
MissWhitlock
Hmm... No, probably not. Hagrid is just you know, a minor character compared to Ron and Hermione. If Ron or Hermione died, then the ending wouldn't have been a happy one, it would've been better, not freaking "All is well". And in the end, Harry forgot about all the deaths anyway... Didn't he? I can't remember.
Kimmy619
Haha, pretty much I think!! I don't think that he dwelled on it very long.
MissWhitlock
That's so typical Harry He only thought about Snape, Dumbly and Lupin and Tonks, I think. Which is pretty selfish of him What about Colin Creevey and Fred and Hedwig! *shakes fist*
Kimmy619
awww, don't remind me about Hedwig , that really got to me. It happened as quick as *snaps fingers*
MissWhitlock
I know! I don't even remember how she died.. I remember they were in Hagrid's motorbike and being assassinated by either a flying Voldie or Snape on a broomstick... But yeah, it happened really quick. And same with Made Eye. And Fred. You could still see his smile when he died
Kimmy619
I'm almost in tears here.... I think that Hedwig got hit with an Avada Kedavra curse which was meant for Harry
MissWhitlock
Ahh... And I remember she just flopped in her cage, lifeless or something. Nice new Avvie by the way I remember the first time I saw Jackson Rathbone somewhere, I thought he was an angel. He just looked too pretty...
