frankie
I read the first 60 pages of Pied Piper by Neville Shute (the Reading Circle book for March) this morning. How is it going so far? I'm still reading The Lost Diaries of Adrian Mole 1999-2001, I might be able to finish it today.
chaliepud
Two thirds of the way through A Land of Decoration and I'm really enjoying it now, well maybe enjoying isn't the right word as it is rather sad, but strangely uplifting in the same way.... I had an hour to kill in town today while waiting for my daughter and a friend to come out of the cinema, I somehow ended up in the BHF charity shop (I figured it would be a cheaper way to kill time than in Waterstone's..) I came out with - The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society - Mary Ann Shaffer & Annie Barrows I Capture the Castle - Dodie Smith Sanctus - Simon Toyne I've seen great reviews on here and elsewhere for the first two but I'm not sure about the Simon Toyne, the story just appealed to me! pontalba
I'm still dithering between 6 or 7 books, I'll start one, then be caught without it when we've gone out and I've had an opportunity to read, so I start something else. /sigh/ Tis a puzzlement. frankie
So far, so good! Splendid! I'm bummed I didn't bring my copy with me, I could've started reading it after Adrian Mole. Just started "Anna Karenina" on the train this morning. Just don't finish it anywhere near a train, please
bethany725
Okay, I have no idea YET why I shouldn't finish this near a train, but I have a feeling I'm going to bust out laughing as soon as I get to the part in the book that makes that clear to me! bobblybear
Finished The White Tiger. Now I'm trying to decide between The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton or The End Specialist by Drew Magary. Gone With The Wind keeps tempting me as well, but I'm not in the mood for a long read.
LittleW
At the moment I struggle with Stephen Fry - the liar. It's funny written but in a language of the youth of the 70s, which makes it difficult to understand for me.

I haven't heard of the third one but I like taking a chance on books I don't know much about, especially when the story appeals .. and that's the nice thing about charity shops .. you feel you can go out on a limb because it isn't expensive. Kidsmum
I loved this book .. hope you continue to enjoy it Kidsmum I can't put it down ..... Compulsive reading Well I broke my New Years resolution to stay out of the charity shops this morning. They had a big bin of childrens books outside 4 for £1.50 so I had to have a look & I picked out The Naughtiest Girl in the School Enid Blyton Five on Treasure Island Enid Blyton The Giggler Treatment Roddy Doyle Revolting Recipes Roald Dahl Well then I had to go inside to pay for them so I had to have a look at the bookshelves & to my pile I added The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society. Not wanting to show favouritism to one particular charity I had to go into the other 2 charity shops on the parade & came out with The Young HornBlower Omnibus C.S. Forester Dark Fire C.J. Sansom The Amelia Jane Collection Enid Blyton The Secret Seven Collection Enid Blyton What can I say it was a slippery slope

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society is just a lovely, lovely book. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. I have I Capture the Castle on my tbr, and like you have seen great reviews for it. Also, I've heard good things about Sanctus, although I haven't read it myself. I have a lot of the Hornblower books as well. I must admit that I only bought them because I loved the film with Gregory Peck (*obligatory swoon*) and the tv movies with Ioan Gruffudd, but they are easy enjoyable reads. pontalba
Gone With The Wind keeps tempting me as well, but I'm not in the mood for a long read. One of my all time favorites! I know it looks long, and it is......however, it's a fast read in spite of that. Just sayin'. The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society is just a lovely, lovely book. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. I have I Exactly, that's exactly right. I loved it. Funny, heartwarming, tragic.

I will get to it this year! Honest! For now I've decided to go with The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton. I've only read a chapter or so, but it's got me hooked already. chaliepud
For now I've decided to go with The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton. I've only read a chapter or so, but it's got me hooked already. The Forgotten Garden was a lovely read, as was The House at Riverton, though I have to say I found The Distant Hours disappointing, it could easily have been 200 pages shorter.. chaliepud
I've now finished A Land of Decoration by Grace McLeen. This was a beautiful book in my opinion, written from the perspective if a 10 year old girl brought up in a strictly religious way, who is bullied by her peers yet finds solace in building a miniature world in her bedroom, The Land of Decoration... I think this could be a book that stays with me for a while, in turns it was sad, haunting, positive, frightening...a very simple book but one I would highly recommend.
