chesilbeach Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 Wow.....I don't have any words just yet I have just one word ... NO!
Nicola Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 I'm just.....................lost for words!!! haa! I don't like to be mean about anything but it seems kind of pointless. I mean could you ever imagine Bella disliking Nessie because Nessie isn't happy being a half-vampire? Bizarre! Still speechless!
missmellow Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 What in the world? That's almost like copyright It's not fair to stephanie meyer, grr.
bethany725 Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 What in the world? That's almost like copyright It's not fair to stephanie meyer, grr. WOW! I skimmed the very first part of the post about Russet Moon, and didn't see that it was written by someone OTHER than Meyer. Then I read your post, Carly, and went back up and reread --- Cannot believe she would just pick up the story and write her own sequel?!! Is that even LEGAL??
Kell Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 (edited) You know what? I'm tempted to give Russet Noon at try - it might actually be slightly better writing, which would be a bonus, and it might be interesting to see someone else's take on the saga... And yes, it's totally legal. There have been other tribute sequels written before now: Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys - tribute/sequel to Jane Eyre Scarlett by Alexandra Ripley and Rhett Butler's People by Donald McCaig - tribute/sequels to Gone with the Wind And those are just the ones that jump straight to mind. Nicola Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 I don't know if I could.......the narrator on the youtube preview has put me off!! Plus, I really enjoyed the story from Jacob's point of view in Breaking Dawn. I found it laugh out loud funny! I think I'm just happy with what I've read and don't want to spoil it. We shall see though.....I might become tempted when I see it on the shelves in Waterstones!

I will say now that I won't read it, but I think that curiosity will get the better of me....
Kimmy619 Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 I wish that I could say that I have some amazing self control, but I don't!! Deep down, I think that I want to read it as I know I am going to hate it if that makes any sense?! To prove myself right maybe...?!
Nicola Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 That's so true! I'll probably do the same and look for faults all the way through. Terrible!!
Kimmy619 Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 haha me too!! don't know what that says about us though - reading something just so we can pick fault with it!
Nicola Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 haha me too!! don't know what that says about us though - reading something just so we can pick fault with it! Haaa!! I know!! But the big question is..............Who's going to be the first to start the thread!!
Kimmy619 Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 hmmm, not too sure, but I know that I will probably read it cover to cover in one sitting!!
Michelle Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 Quite a clever author really.. if this thread is anything to go by, it'll sell extremely well, even if it's rubbish!

bethany725 Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 I wonder what authors think when another author takes off on their idea? I'd love to hear Ms. Meyers' thoughts on this one...
Nollaig Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 I don't think something like that should be legal....
Kimmy619 Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 I wonder what authors think when another author takes off on their idea? I'd love to hear Ms. Meyers' thoughts on this one... Me too! It doesn't seem fair that she has come up with the characters and now someone else is using them
bethany725 Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 I agree with both posts above.. and from the books listed earlier, it definitely has happened. I guess Jasper Fforde also falls into the same category from continuing some of the classics characters... But for some reason, the fact that Stephanie Meyer was possibly writing another novel from Edward's perspective (even if she'd put it on hold) makes me feel like this new author just intercepted the pass. I know I'd feel really cheated if someone took my ideas and ran with them, and made a potload of money off the characters and storylines I'd fashioned and worked so hard on.
Kell Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 I don't think something like that should be legal.... Me too! It doesn't seem fair that she has come up with the characters and now someone else is using them Fan fictioners do it all the time.
Nollaig Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 They don't go out and publish books. They don't get anything out of it. And I don't really care for fanfiction either.
frankie Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 There are countless books on the characters of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, all legally published. But I would suppose one should have the original author's permission?
Kimmy619 Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 I wonder if she will try to mimic the style of Meyer or will she use her own style? Not sure which I would rather?!
Nicola Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 I'm sure I heard that JK Rowling had put some sort of copyright in place to stop anyone from using the Harry Potter characters. (I may be making this up of course!!) But wouldn't you think that after the massive success of Twilight, Stephanie Meyer would do the same??
rach.at.the.disco Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 Russet Noon is told from Jacob Black's perspective and it explores the questions left unanswered at the end of the last installment in the Twilight Saga. Well that puts me off for a start!! However, I may be intruiged enough to have a look but only if I hear absolutely fabulous reviews about it .
