BellaB Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 This book is both absorbing and rich with descriptions of Istanbul, past and present. A story of the events between the Turks and the Armenians in 1915 trickle through in a pwoerful way; whilst giving each character a motive and reason for there consequential actions. One of my favourate books by far, however I found the title lets the book down. The title draws too much on one character, which I think is mis-leading, as all the characters seem to have equal inportance. 1 Quote
Michelle Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 Just to point out, I think our bad word filter changed the title! Quote
itsmeagain Posted yesterday at 05:49 AM Posted yesterday at 05:49 AM Well what an outstanding book that is. I had only made a note of this author's name after Paul Theroux mentions her in one of his books, he interviewed her . It is an amazing book and the characters are indeed all equally relevant. Elif has left Turkey after the Turkish government denounced her for her exposure of Turkish atrocities in 1915, in the book. She lives in London. 1 Quote

She appeared on Portrait Artist of the Year 2025 this week and struck me as very beautiful. 1 Quote

Yes she's stunning isn't she, I'd heard of the author but didn't know anything about them. I'm glad her artist won the heat too, the painting was brilliant. 1 Quote
lunababymoonchild Posted yesterday at 10:16 AM Posted yesterday at 10:16 AM I thought so and that’s the one I had chosen. I had never heard of her before Quote

Theroux says he was awestruck by her beauty; a case of not being able to concentrate on her words as she is so beautiful. I did not especially see it when I saw her picture yesterday. Quote
