chesilbeach Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Went to see Skyfall this evening - fantastic. Don't want to give anything away - there were a few unexpected things happen that shocked me, a few things that I wanted to shout "No! Stop it!!!" but everything I wanted from a Bond film. Definitely Craig's best so far.

vodkafan Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 I have heard Skyfall is pretty good. Might go see this one.
vodkafan Posted November 3, 2012 Posted November 3, 2012 I saw Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. I thought it was OK, bit of no-brainer entertainment. The only bit that niggled me was once again we have bad vampires and a "good" vampire. I do think that concept is very silly. Once you become a vampire you are undead; you lose your human soul and any sense of right or wrong; you only care where your next feed is coming from.
Kreader Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 I watched Lord of the Rings, I thought I'd get reaquainted with Middle Earth since its not long for The Hobbit to be released.
poppyshake Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 I haven't watched anything but Alan wanted me to tell Claire that he watched Mission Impossible - Ghost Protocol on her suggestion and enjoyed it very much (you'd better buy Al's Christmas prezzie from me this year Claire )

Once you become a vampire you are undead; you lose your human soul and any sense of right or wrong; you only care where your next feed is coming from. Good point. I've never seen a 'good' zombie, so I wonder why it's OK for vampires? Maybe because they can still talk and be good looking.
frankie Posted November 6, 2012 Posted November 6, 2012 Quite a lot of movies for me, for a change. A Cabin in the Woods (such a disappointment) Evil Dead (um... won't be too harsh, it was made decades after all) The Hills Have Eyes (didn't like it much, it was too creepy. I think horror is just not my genre) Julie & Julia (I only recorded this because Meryl Streep starred in it. I had no idea what it was about when I started watching it, but I loved it that I got to know while reading the credits that the movie's based on two true stories. And when I was watching it, I realised that I'd seen a documentary on Meryl Streep some time ago and this was the movie she'd been talking about in the documentary, and it was one I'd wanted to watch ever since then. Happy me! I loved the movie, I definitely want to read Julia Child's memoir My Life in France. I also initially wanted to read the book by Julie Powell, but then I read about her second book and I don't even want to say what I thought about the idea, so have crossed her book off the wishlist.)
Karsa Orlong Posted November 6, 2012 Posted November 6, 2012 Evil Dead (um... won't be too harsh, it was made decades after all) And on a very, very low budget. It was Sam Raimi's full-length directorial debut, too, wasn't it? Anyway, forget that one and watch the sequel - it's a classic, very, very funny, and one of my all-time faves
Timstar Posted November 6, 2012 Posted November 6, 2012 (edited) Evil Dead Another classic set for re-make that will surely ruin it. Watched V for Vendetta last night, cause i'm just that cheesy brilliant film though. Edited November 6, 2012 by Timstar

Anyway, forget that one and watch the sequel - it's a classic, very, very funny, and one of my all-time faves I don't know about Sam Raimi, but ex is a huge Bruce Campbell fan () and told me this was Campbell's first movie ever and he'd done no acting prior to this movie. And no, I will not watch the sequel I've seen the 'threquel' and it was awful

frankie Posted November 6, 2012 Posted November 6, 2012 Oi!!!!! Be careful what you wish for.... I'm considering watching another movie tonight, maybe the Emily Rose one. Can't remember the full title. Also am not sure if digibox recorded it...
Chrissy Posted November 10, 2012 Author Posted November 10, 2012 I have recently watched and enjoyed the first three Twilight movies; Twilight, New Moon and Eclipse. Although I am (clearly) not a teenager, I can see the appeal of these easy viewing, well paced and cleverly cgi'd films. We are talking star crossed (but chaste) lovers, age old enemies, rivalries and slow motion chase / fight scenes. I will catch up with the last two in time. A plenty couple of non-taxing hours.
vodkafan Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 I have watched several last week, some with the kids.... Men In Black Men In Black II just to catch up. Never really liked this one though. Men In Black III. I enjoyed this but Tommy Lee Jones looked shockingly old and ill ! Angel's Share Fantastic low budget Scottish film about a group of misfits on community service. Beaten down by their harsh Glasgow upbringing, one of them wants to make good and have a new start but his only way out is through one audacious caper..5 stars!! Perfume..I have seen this once before and watched it again with my 14 and 16 year old..they were rivetted by it and really got into the character. Leon. good old Jean Reno fun. Watching this again it was obvious that Natalie Portman was going to be a good actress even at that young age. Friends with Kids. This one from the director of Bridesmaids ( which I found to be surprisingly quite deep, a cut above most chick flicks) and with a few of the same people in it. This one again was a satisfying film, an interesting situation and not at all fluffy. It made me think about my own impossible situation so I wouldn't say I found it funny , but a good film which didn't shy away from any issues.
Karsa Orlong Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 The Thing (2011) - nothing special, but I liked the way it tied into John Carpenter's 1982 classic
Timstar Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 Unstoppabley - The last film by Tony Scott, I enjoyed it, a lot of tension and surprisingly good for a film about freight trains.
chesilbeach Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 Scrooge the 1970 version with Albert Finney - a colleague told to me it was their favourite Christmas film ever, but I thought it was just okay - still don't think anyone will top The Muppet Christmas Carol version of that story. Just watching You've Got Mail, as I came across it while channel hopping.
bobblybear Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2. Absolutely loved it.
poppyshake Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 Scrooge the 1970 version with Albert Finney - a colleague told to me it was their favourite Christmas film ever, but I thought it was just okay - still don't think anyone will top The Muppet Christmas Carol version of that story. Oh I love them both .. there's hardly any versions that I don't love (Kelsey Grammer? I haven't seen it .. I'm just guessing I'd hate it). My favourite part of Albert Finney's Scrooge is when Anton Rogers is singing 'Thank You Very Much' on top of the coffin .. oh I can do a right old kneezup to that (bet you're glad you've been spared that Claire ) and poor old Scrooge hasn't the foggiest what they're singing about (him being dead) and is trying to join in. I love lots of bits of The Muppet Christmas Carol but probably my fave bits are at the Cratchitt house because Miss Piggy just kills me. Just watching You've Got Mail, as I came across it while channel hopping. A good booky film
poppy Posted November 12, 2012 Posted November 12, 2012 Sherlock Holmes ~ A Game Of Shadows. Robert Downey Jr cracks me up
Sofia Posted November 12, 2012 Posted November 12, 2012 Scrooge the 1970 version with Albert Finney - I love that one & the Patrick Stewart one
