Nollaig Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 Recieved The Butterfly Lion by Michael Morpurgo in the post today from Inver - going to give it a read as soon as I finish my current Kate Mosse book.
Inver Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 At last I managed to finish 'Midwives' ~ Chris Bohjalian without falling asleep last night . Now I can concentrate on Inkheart.
Janet Posted November 10, 2009 Author Posted November 10, 2009 I went into a charity shop today and found my December bookworms book - The Xmas Factor by Annie Sanders. It sounds fluffy - really not my sort of thing at all but I'm going to try to read it with an open mind! Best of all, their books were 'BOGOF' so I also got The Other Hand by Chris Cleave, which has been on my Wishlist for ages.
carm Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 I started The Hour I First Believed by Wally Lamb and The Enchanted April by Elizabeth Von Arnim this weekend
Stephanie2008 Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 I finished The Other Boleyn Girl last night (stayed up far too late so I could finish it) and started the Book Thief by Markus Zusack today
Nollaig Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 started the Book Thief by Markus Zusack today Oh oh oh! Can't wait to hear your thoughts! I loved that book.
libri vermis Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 I had to put down One For The Money by Janet Evanovich. It's just not my style. I am not sure what I am going to read next. Must browse my shelves.
bethany725 Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 At last I managed to finish 'Midwives' ~ Chris Bohjalian without falling asleep last night I see that one never got any better for ya, Inver. It was one of my faves.. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy it as much! I finished Envy by Anna Godbersen, and have now started The Fixer Upper by Mary Kay Andrews -- Had lots of reading time on a plane today and will tomorrow, as well.
Lucybird Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 I'm about 50 pages into The Fatal Englishman and not very impressed so far, I hope it gets better because I usually really enjoy books by Sebastian Fawkes
Nollaig Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 Finished The Winters Ghosts by Kate Mosse - a short, easy read, quite nice and a good Winter/Christmas read. Also re-read The Butterfly Lion by Michael Morpurgo and all I can say to anyone who didn't take Inver's offer of it is - BIG MISTAKE. It's better than I remember - it's SUCH a lovely little book, and I'd forgotten that the illustrations are arguably the most beautiful in any book I read as a child.
Kylie Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 I've read a couple of chapters of The Sign of Four today and yesterday I read about 50 pages of The 13 1/2 Lives of Captain Bluebear.
MuggleMagic Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 I haven't read anything in ages because I have had a nasty flu
Nollaig Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 I'm 155 pages into Light On Snow by Anita Shreve - it's great! It's really much much better than I was expecting. I thought it would be mediocre (but it was only €1.50, so I got it) and I'm very pleasantly surprised.
Guest ii Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 II finished Envy by Anna Godbersen I meant to ask you about this one, as I just finished the first one in the series. Are the later parts worth my while? What did you think of them overall? Oh, and I'm loving, absolutely loving, The Flying Troutmans.

Mexicola Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 Last night I finished The Age of Innocence. I enjoyed the story and the setting but did find it a bit of a drag at times. I'm glad I persevered though. Today, I shall begin Girl in Hyacinth Blue by Susan Vreeland (thanks to peacefield's kind recommendation!) which, quite fortuitously, arrived in the post this morning
Nollaig Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 I knew you would like it. Tee hee! 220 pages in now, I'll have finished it before the afternoon is out. I had no idea what to expect from it, but certainly wouldn't have guessed anything along the lines of what it's offering - it's such a compelling read. Are her other books as good at this??
Peacefield Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 Today, I shall begin Girl in Hyacinth Blue by Susan Vreeland (thanks to peacefield's kind recommendation!) which, quite fortuitously, arrived in the post this morning Wonderful, Mexicola! I really hope you like it .
Stephanie2008 Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 I've been working all morning on my dissertation proposal so now I'm going to go relax and start The Book Thief
Dimitra Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 I read another chapter of Brighton Rock...but it was a big one!
Nollaig Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 Finished Light On Snow, my sixth book in nine days, and my fiftieth this year. Also read one and a half of BookJumper's chapters, so I'll be finishing those and re-reading today and tomorrow. Next up: Miss Smilla's Feeling For Snow by Peter H
frankie Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 I'm in the middle of Faithless by Karin Slaughter. This book didn't grip me right from the get go as the others always did, but the more I've read it the more I've liked it! Can't wait to finish it. Also got the Triptych book today, and I already have Skin Privilege waiting on my shelf, so I'm good for the next 2,5 Slaughter books! The rest, Fracture and Genesis, aren't yet in the library's collection but I wrote them and asked if they could get them I also happened to find Sophie Kinsella's Twenties Girl by chance!! I'm real happy about that, I didn't even remember there was such a book And I'll be needing some easy chick lit after my long slaughter stretch
catwoman Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 (edited) I'm in the middle of Faithless by Karin Slaughter. I'm real happy about that, I didn't even remember there was such a book And I'll be needing some easy chick lit after my long slaughter stretch I knwo what you mean about FAITHLESS, it is a bit like that. The direction that I thought the book would go in never took that direction, but once I got into it it was really good with. I thought the same with INDELIABLE. But you will love TRIPTYCH. I did anyway hehe. As for me, I could not resist and I bought Breaking dawn at the airport yesterday. I could not resist. It was a special Airport big yet paperback edition. I also got Jack |Kerley - Little Girls lost. As it was the only book that I did not have in the series and was not available from my library. Read Jack Kerley's The Broken Souls on the plane and was fantastic, kept me engrossed, even while we had some turbulance. Becuase I loved it so much I started Little Girls lost, but I am a bit confussed and a little anoyed, I am hoping that as the book progresses some answers my start to form. I feel like I have jumped ten books in a series, I even check online TWICE to make sure that I was not reading them out of order. *Edit*** Just noticed that yes I am reading this new one out of order. *D'oh! so I think I know what is going to happen in book four Edited November 11, 2009 by catwoman
