chesilbeach Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 Sad to see that author Jose Saramago has died http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment_and_arts/10352251.stm. The books of his I've read have been some of the greatest books I've read, challenging, compelling and all have had an impact on me. Quote
lexiepiper Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 James Bulger killer Jon Venables has been sent back to prison on child porn charges. Spending all that tax payer money to rename/rehouse them has obviously been well worth it... Quote
Chrissy Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 It is so sad and awful and soul destroying that this is how it went with him. Two children killed a little boy, and every effort appears to have been made to 'help' the two. One seems to have done so much better than the other. How terribly sad for all concerned. Quote
Kylie Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 Wow, we have a change in leader today. Our Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd, has stood aside for our first ever female Prime Minister, Julia Gillard. Women are finally starting to get all the top jobs in this country; we also have our first female Premier in NSW and the first female Governor-General. Good times. Quote
tragic-austin Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 Heck yeah the top 3 jobs in Aust Commonwealth are women (the Queen, GG and PM!) How cool are we????????? Quote
Kylie Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 Thanks Roland. I'm a bit sorry Rudd has gone - he was pretty good as PMs go (high praise coming from me). I think Gillard will be good too, but I hate it when political parties have internal problems and start turning on their own members. It creates such instability. Quote
Roland Butter Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 Most popular PM since Bob Hawke, they say, which is going some. I wish Julia Gillard well - apparently she's UK-born. Quote
Kylie Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 Yes, she was born in Wales and migrated with her family as '10 pound Poms' (her words) in the 60s. Quote
Roland Butter Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 My parents were nearly "ten pound Poms". Just think, I could have been that annoying neighbour you've always hated ... Quote

I don't believe that for a second Roland. I think you would be a lovely neighbour to have. Wow, your life could have turned out so much differently. Quote
Roland Butter Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 you don't have to go to Aus to be that guy That's almost funny .... Quote
