Ali558 Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 Hi I'm Ali and I'm so glad I found this forum of fellow book lovers. I've lurked a bit but decided to take the plunge and say hello. I work as a school librarian so I get to work with books all day which is great! I'm currently undertaking an English Literature Degree with the Open University so there's lots of reading to do for that. I also have piles and piles of books by the side of my bed (and scattered all over the house) waiting to be read. Why are there not more hours in the day?! I love books - all genres and will give anything a go depending what mood I'm in. I'm reading Primo Levi's If this is a Man/The Truce at the moment. Last week I had a day off work ill and just lay on the sofa reading (and feeling sorry for myself) and I read 'Things I Want My Daughters to Know' by Elizabeth Noble. It was a lovely read and had me sobbing buckets at a few points. Well that's a little about me. Have a great day everyone. Quote
MDR124 Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 Welcome Ali558 ! Primo Levi's If this is a man is a great book. There are a lot of works borne from the horrors of the past century. Even if the subject is harsh, if you look for further readings something you can't miss is Elie Wiesel's The Night. Quote
frankie Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 Hello Ali and welcome to the forum! And just so you know, if you hang around here your already big to be read -book pile will increase drastically! Consider yourself warned Quote
bethany725 Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 Hi Ali! 2 things: 1) I'm so jealous you work in a library! 2) I just finished Noble's book recently also, and of course cried on the 4th page or something like that.. but did enjoy the book Oh, and welcome! :) Quote
Rawr Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 It must be pretty great to work in a library, i'm always wandering in and out of them :b Welcome! Quote

BookJumper Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 Welcome Ali ! I am sure you'll have an ace time amongst us, your kindred bookworm-ish spirits! *is envious, wants to work in a library too* [typed "live" instead of "work" at first - I wish...] Quote
Ali558 Posted March 17, 2009 Author Posted March 17, 2009 Thanks for all the replies and the lovely welcome. What a nice bunch of book lovers you are! I do quite often feel like I've got the best job in the world. I also work as a Teaching Assistant so I get to spend some part of the day in the classroom with the kids and the other part of the day in the Library so I feel like I get the best of both worlds. Because I'm part of what goes on in the lessons I can find the best books to support the kids research etc. The kids all think I'm a bit mad because I get so enthusiastic about anything to do with books and reading. For World Book Day we had a week of book based events, quizzes and stuff and then a dress up day where the kids could come to school dressed as any character from a book. It was fab! Quote
bethany725 Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 Sounds fun! It's great... makes kids excited about reading. Quote
