Chrissy
Okay, all I recognized out of that was beans! Can you translate the rest of it for this American, Kell? Sausage (toad) in batter (the hole) with large cut fries (almost potato wedges)! Tonight we are having chicken with potatoes and young tender cabbage. We need good comfort food tonight - it's been a long week so far!
Stephanie2008
I love Toad in the hole Good choice Kell. I've decided I'm having a cheese and tomato pizza for tea (I prefer the plain ones )

Peacefield
Sausage (toad) in batter (the hole) with large cut fries (almost potato wedges)! Hey thanks, Chrissy! Sounds kind of what we call 'Pigs in a Blanket' here .

Stephanie2008
Hey thanks, Chrissy! Sounds kind of what we call 'Pigs in a Blanket' here . Are Pigs in blankets not more like a sausage roll? That's what I always thought they were, sausage in pastry. Toad in the hole is more like yorkshire pudding batter. Although I'm probably wrong. I need to go to the English pub we have downtown and ask for it off the menu I guess .
lexiepiper
I thought pigs in blankets were sausages wrapped in bacon? Edit: Okay I've just checked, in the UK it's sausage in bacon, in the US it's sausages wrapped in dough

Peacefield
LOL So very confusing! But I must admit, now I have a craving for it - lots of good memories in this dish. Maybe I should stop at the market on the way home...
poppy
I think OH has been watching too many cooking programmes on TV. Last night we had smoked saveloys and he said, "I'll just leave them on the bench to 'rest' for a while."
Stephanie2008
We're having Christmas dinner today, turkey, chippolatas, roast potatos the lot. It's only 6 months til Christmas so we decided to have Christmas dinner.
poppy
Because our Christmas is in the summer, quite a few people have a mid-winter Christmas dinner here, so you would fit right in Stephanie We also have a mid-winter light display in the shop windows and I often wonder what tourists think of santas and reindeers and Merry Christmas signs winking at them in June (these Kiwis are crazy )
