Sarahrob Posted May 3, 2008 Posted May 3, 2008 I'm having some friends over tonight so I've just popped a lamb casserole-y thing in the oven. It takes hours to cook, but is absolutely gorgeous when done. Since that's so heavy I've not done a starter, just plates of olives, cheese, breads, antipasto and a few fishy bits. For dessert I've got a few options but I'm going to see if I can't find a way to use some dragon fruit I bought yesterday. They just look so divine there HAS to be a way to use them. Maybe I could scoop the flesh out and fill them with berries and ice cream? Maybe I should go and try one now, just to be sure it isn't hideous...
madcow Posted May 4, 2008 Posted May 4, 2008 To tired to cook tonight so we'll be having a take away, probably Chinese
Sarahrob Posted May 5, 2008 Posted May 5, 2008 I know it's 2am, but it's never too early for me to be thinging about food... Tonight's dinner will need to be based around chicken, as I have some that needs to be used. I'm thinking about making fajitas, but will probably go the lazy route and have chicken and chorizo with butter beans.
madcow Posted May 5, 2008 Posted May 5, 2008 After last nights indulgence of chinese we are having jacket potatoes with tuna and salad tonight.
Lilywhite Posted May 5, 2008 Posted May 5, 2008 Just been out to F&B's and over indulged I had my usual carbonara and this time attempted to eat a banoffee sundae..... needless to say, I failed to finish it. It was godd though
Lilywhite Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 Going to make a lasagne tonight with jacket potatos on the side
Esiotrot Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 I have lamb mince - usually use it for moussaka but am trying to come up with something different. Any ideas?
Angel Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 How about a spicy cottage pie - add cumin, cinnamon, a pinch of chilli, tomato puree, and if you have any a couple of apricots for a Morroccan feel. Top with mash with garlic and top with toasted cumin seeds. Delish
Esiotrot Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 Yummm that sounds good! searching on the Good Food Website but not coming up with much
Angel Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 It's in the March 2008 edition of the magazine We invented something similar last year and it was lovely
~Andrea~ Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 (edited) Shepherds pie? (Bit obvious there) Meatballs? I know a great (easy) meatballs recipe, but it's supposed to be for beef (but it probably doesn't matter) Mix grated ginger (1 tsp for 650g meat) and 1 tsp of fennel seeds into the meat, then bring 500g (I think?) of passata to the boil, (add tsp turmeric and tbsp mild curry powder), gently place the walnut sized meatballs in and simmer for 15-20 minutes. Season if you like at the end. Serve drizzled with yoghurt and mint leaves and have it with rice or pitta bread (or both ) We also sometimes fry (soften) a finely chopped onion and then add the passata to that, just to add a bit more veg. ETA: Ooh Angels sounds good too. (She beat me to it ) Edited May 6, 2008 by ~Andrea~
Esiotrot Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 Hmmm that sounds good too - think the meatballs might win as I cant be bothered to peel tatties LOL!
~Andrea~ Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 Yay I might give that spicy shep's pie a go one day though, it sounds nice
madcow Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 Wasn't very hungry tonight so just had a couple of toasted teacakes.
Sarahrob Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 Wasn't very hungry tonight so just had a couple of toasted teacakes. Mmmm... haven't had a toasted teacake in I don't know how long. It's got to be a couple of years. Now I'm really fancying one. Sadly I'm not at home tonight so can't even go and get myself one. Tonight's tea was a manky sandwich left over from a buffet at lunchtime. OK, it was washed down with a Costco raspberry and cranberry muffin, but I bet I had your sympathy to that point, didn't I? Tomorrow I'm out in Liverpool at a teppanyaki restaurant. Should be a laugh.
