  1. Shlightly shtrange, washn't it? I'm pretty sure it wasn't like that before (it certainly wasn't in the Canterbury Tales). I missed the first 20 minutes tonight, so found it all slightly bewildering, especially that Catherine Tate had gone back to being slightly shrieky, but by the end it all made sense. Kind of. Looking forward to next week's episode now
  2. Hi Georgie and If I could get bargain books like that I'd probably end up spending my entire pay packet on them
  3. Hope you're having a happy birthday! :D

  4. Southernlady, wishing you a very happy (and very belated) birthday. Hope you had a lovely day :)

  5. Hi Icecream, sorry I missed your birthday! Best wishes (even if they are belated).

Hope you had a fab day :D

  6. Good as it was, it never lived up to the all-time classic that was the Heidi theme tune

    Hello

Hi Tbain, and That's a great avatar!
  8. I used to love this book. I had a really tattered copy that somehow lost it's cover, but I loved it. I was gutted when my mum finally made me throw it away! Today's favourites for me are: Gaskell, North and South Bronte, Jane Eyre Austen, Persuasion
  9. You can quite often get good deal on Christie through the book people - I got 10 books for £9.99 (as I recall they were all Miss Marple books). If you don't want to buy them my local library is stuffed full of them (though many are in the large print section). I think my favourite Miss Marple is At Bertram's Hotel.
  10. Today's lunch was lovely - leftover lamb from sunday lunch with spicy couscous and veggies in teeny tiny cubes (had a lot of time on my hands this morning and it was best thing I could do with a knife that wouldn't get me arrested).
  11. Mmmm... sounds gorgeous! My current favourite food (other than chocolate) is mushrooms on toasted bloomer, and that's what I'm eating now (apologies if I spit crumbs at you).
  12. Hi Druscilla - happy Birthday to you :D

  13. I didn't think it worked as a book. As a column it worked well, but the book was a disappointment to me. Having said that, I got it free with something - I don't think I'd have paid good money for it - so I can't complain too loudly!
  14. Was it just me or was Lucinda really scary in those interviews - all breathy and simpering. Really freaky. Liked Claire's interviews, thought the "you're fired" had the funniest guest ever (don't know who he was but he was fab on the subject of Alex being 24 and made some very funny and astute comments on them all). I also thought it was mean asking Lee to do the impression, but what kind of a nonce puts something like that on a CV? This may be a show but the heart of it is a job - would he have done that in a non-televised interview? Think not. Helene is a bit of an odd one. I'm not sure what she's done in any of the tasks if I'm honest. Other than having a go at Lucinda and Sara she seems to have stayed in the background and not really shone for me. Would be disappointed if Helene won. For me, the stronger candidates are Lee (if you could knock off a few of the market-trader rough edges) or Claire (if she could show she is capable of change and growth). Really, REALLY hope their team wins!
  15. Hi Rishikesh, and Rebecca is one of my all time favourite novels, and I do love the Olivier film almost as much as the book - it's well worth watching if it's on the telly (and while it's different to the film it evokes the same atmosphere very effectively!).
  16. Hi Elizabeth! In the spirit of better late than never, a belated welcome to the board!
  17. No, it was Gaby taking Carlos home and deliberately walking him into walls and pelting him with apples because he didn't tell her he was blind. Very funny stuff!
