Athena Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 In this topic we can post about films/movies we've seen in 2019. Since it's January 1rst I haven't actually seen any movies yet in 2019, but we might watch one in one of the next few days. Quote
Lau_Lou Posted January 8, 2019 Posted January 8, 2019 Fantastic Beasts The crimes Of Grindalweld 2019. A good film I thought. Quote
Athena Posted January 9, 2019 Author Posted January 9, 2019 The last film I watched was Star Wars: Solo. Not sure what to think, it wasn't terrible, but it's also not something that stands out in my mind. Quote

I was never a massive Star Wars fan but it would seem that a lot of the big fans have strong reactions to these movies. Quote
lopeanha Posted January 9, 2019 Posted January 9, 2019 Since I had quite a long Christmas vacation, I've already watched a few films this year. Two Night Stand (meh, nothing special) Catch and release (sad, lovely, Silent Bob was good) Interstellar (oh boy, I hated that one, so freaking boring and plain weird) The Martian (really liked that one, funny, interesting, suspenseful) Quote
willoyd Posted January 17, 2019 Posted January 17, 2019 (edited) Went to see The Favourite today. As wothwhile as the reviews suggest. Great to see a film with 3 strong female leads, and the men supporting. The three are goooooood! Edited March 20, 2019 by willoyd Quote
bobblybear Posted January 20, 2019 Posted January 20, 2019 Life...a sci-fi/horror. I really enjoyed it. Quote
frankie Posted January 24, 2019 Posted January 24, 2019 (edited) Die Hard It was entertaining! So much so that I think I have to watch the sequel, especially since I learned it was directed by a Finnish movie director! I had no idea. Edited January 24, 2019 by frankie Quote
Raven Posted January 26, 2019 Posted January 26, 2019 ^ Two good Christmas films! (they go down hill quickly after two, so be warned!) Quote
Talisman Posted January 27, 2019 Posted January 27, 2019 We saw Mary Queen of Scots last weekend - the 2 leads are vey powerful actresses who both play the role very well. Quote
Madeleine Posted January 28, 2019 Posted January 28, 2019 About halfway through the second Hobbit film - The Desolation of Smaug - enjoying it so far, to my surprise I'm finding it better than the first film, which I felt dragged and I fast forwarded a few bits - beginning to care about the characters now and so far it's been entertaining. Still feel 3 films was really stretching it though! Quote
Hayley Posted January 28, 2019 Posted January 28, 2019 I watched The Witches with my niece and was surprised at how freaky the mouse transformation scenes are, I don't remember them being that bad when I watched it as a kid! Quote

bobblybear Posted February 3, 2019 Posted February 3, 2019 I just watched The Shape of Water. So fantastically bizarre...I really enjoyed it. Quote
Madeleine Posted February 4, 2019 Posted February 4, 2019 Finished watching "The Desolation of Smaug" and really enjoyed it, onto "The Battle of the Five Armies" now. Quote
Raven Posted February 4, 2019 Posted February 4, 2019 Arrival Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than Interstellar. Quote

Roderick99 Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 March and I also haven't visited the cinema yet LOL, super busy. Taking note from your suggestions here. Thank guys. Quote
Brian. Posted March 12, 2019 Posted March 12, 2019 In the last month I have watched or rewatched Mary Queen of Scots - 4/10 Moonlight - 7/10 A Bridge Too Far - 8/10 Cardboard Gangsters - 3/10 The Villainess - 8/10 I expected Cardboard Gangsters to be a bad movie and it was but Mary Queen of Scots left me very disappointed especially given how good both the leading actresses are. Madeleine Posted March 12, 2019 Posted March 12, 2019 About halfway through Logan, the last Wolverine movie - boy it's violent! Reminds me of Mad Max quite a bit. Quote
willoyd Posted March 13, 2019 Posted March 13, 2019 (edited) Went to see Mary Poppins Returns with OH at the weekend. Actually surprised myself by loving it. Emily Blunt outstanding. Not sure about Ben Whishaw (I'm usually a bit of a fan), but the rest of the cast practically perfect (in every way!). Lovely homage to the original, whilst carving out just enough of its own space. Brian. Posted March 19, 2019 Posted March 19, 2019 I've watched a bunch of movies this week. Safe House - 6/10 True Story - 5/10 The Dawn Wall - 8/10 Gringo - 6/10 Free Solo - 9/10 Fighting With My Family - 8/10 Battle of the Sexes - 6/10 The climbing movies were the stand out, especially Free Solo which I would recommend to anyone, even if you don't have an interest in climbing. Quote
willoyd Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 Can only agree with you about Free Solo (had to watch some of it through my fingers!), although I think I'm a bit unusual amongst the people that I know in slightly preferring The Dawn Wall. They are, of course, fairly similar in style, being both by the same directing team (I can thoroughly recommend Meru if you haven't seen that and enjoyed these two). Whatever, they have both been standout films for me recently too. Quote
