Ophelia Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 I'm really looking forward to the match and I like both of these players. I hope you all enjoy it! Quote
Ben Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 (edited) Precisely what I meant Inver. I'm aware of the stats, and I'm aware that he's (Federer) got undoubtedly the best chance in the final. However, like Inver stranger things have happened and I'm only pulling for Andy because he's the underdog and I'd like to see him put up a fight mate. ETA: Walking out on Centre Court now! Hopefully a good game! Edit: Roddick takes the first set. Edited July 5, 2009 by Ben Quote
DanC_84 Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 Yeah Andy is playing very well. Serving extremely well when he gets into trouble. The break in the first kind of came out of nowhere. It would be crazy if Andy managed to win this, I'm not even sure I can remember a Grand Slam final where anyone started as short a favourite as Federer did for this match. Quote
Ben Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 (edited) That's what I mean Dan, before today nobody expected him to do anything. But at the start of any final the slate is wiped clean and everyone starts from scratch. Like you say he's playing well, let's see if he can perform an upset now. Edit: Second set tie-breaker. *gulp* Edited July 5, 2009 by Ben Quote

Ben Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 This 2009 Wimbledon final is absolutely superb. Both players playing fantastically; Federer taking the second set after coming from 6-2 down in tie-breaker, saving 4 set points. I don't believe it! This is exciting stuff. Quote
DanC_84 Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 Wow, that has got to be a massive mental blow for ARod. He chocked horribly in that breaker. Its going to take a pretty massive effort to overcome that. Quote
Ben Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 (edited) I'm amazed he fluffed 4 set points! If he stays focused then he'll be fine. At least he knows he is and can keep pace with Federer now! ETA: Just seen the third set come to a close. Both players still playing brilliantly but Federer takes the third set after taking a tense tie-breaker 7-5. Momentum surely with Federer now? Federer 2-1 Roddick. (Sets) Edited July 5, 2009 by Ben Quote
Ben Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 Well we have a fifth set on centre court. What a match this has been. Roddick broke serve early on in the fourth and held his all the way to the end of set to win it 6-3. A fifth set now, wouldn't want to put my money on anyone. Quote
Ben Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 And that's that on Centre Court. We've had a five-set thriller that has lasted for over 4 hours and 20 minutes. Federer makes history as he breaks Sampras' record. What I will say is that I think he should've shown a bit more respect towards Roddick. He's so upset it's unbelievable, so why does Federer have to be such a Saying things like 'I find this funny for a reason'. What's that all about? The guys gutted you arrogant git. Quote
Angel Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 I can't agree more Ben and all along I was hoping that Andy would win! That poor guy put up such a fight and I can't believe that Federer didn't show him respect. My heart really went out to him. An awesome match with the wrong winner in my eyes. Yes Federer is a fantastic player but I wish his attitude matched it. I so hope that Roddick gets a grand slam soon - he deserves it Quote
DanC_84 Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 I think what he meant when he said "it felt funny" was that he didn't feel like he deserved to win. You could tell that he kind of knew he was the second best out there and got away with it. I am a massive Federer fan, but even I kind of wanted ARod to get there at the end. It must be horribly gutting, he will rue the second set breaker for the rest of his career I think. Whilst the match was exciting I would have to say in my 15 odd years watching tennis it was the worst quality Grand Slam final I have ever seen. Federer played terribly I thought. It would have to be the worst match I have ever seen him play. Still, I guess that is what makes the great champions, they can win when they are playing poorly. It also gave a real indication as to why grass court tennis is completely dead outside of Wimbeldon - it just is nowhere near as good to watch as the slower surfaces. Anyways, congratulations to Roger. He now stands as clearly the best player of all time. He has the record for 15 Slams and has won all four of the majors, at just 27 years of age. Truly an outstanding achievement. Quote

Well I suppose he is a great player. I can't agree more Ben and all along I was hoping that Andy would win! That poor guy put up such a fight and I can't believe that Federer didn't show him respect. My heart really went out to him. An awesome match with the wrong winner in my eyes. Yes Federer is a fantastic player but I wish his attitude matched it. I so hope that Roddick gets a grand slam soon - he deserves it I so wanted Andy too win. He came back to fight every single point. I think what he meant when he said "it felt funny" was that he didn't feel like he deserved to win. You could tell that he kind of knew he was the second best out there and got away with it. I guess you have to acknowledge his achievement. Wonder what the final would have been like if it had been the two Andys playing. Quote
DanC_84 Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 Andy Murray had a great tournament. Roddick was in close to career best form, so that shows that Murray was not far off. As much as I do not like Murray at all, he is clearly the 3rd best in the world right now, and is definately a future Grand Slam champion. Quote
DanC_84 Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 Some quotes from the press conferences. It sounds like Andy is completely shattered. Really feeling for the guy, must be tough. ARod: When asked if this was worse than his other losses to Federer in Wimbeldon finals: Quote
Inver Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 When does the US one start. I seem to remember we were watching it last year in July when we were on hols at Center Parcs. Quote

Inver Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 Is it always that time of year. We sat and watched Andy Murray win I remember! Quote

MissWhitlock Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Rafa's Back! Mirka had the twins... Rafa played in sleeveless! (with I think is irrelevant, unless you're a gal of course, but anyways) Fed's number one.. Rafa's number two. So much happening! Who do you guys think is gonna win Montreal? Quote

Oh how I have missed him I love him in his sleeveless shirts. I think Murray could win. With Nadal seeming to be a little tentative with the knee injury and maybe (hopefully) Fed still with his mind on the twins, Murray could sneek in there and grab it. I think that is more me hoping but I don't think there is a better chance for Murray. Quote
MissWhitlock Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 I dunno if it's gonna be a Rafa-Fed final again either. I'm HOPING Rafa's gonna be in the finals but...I haven't seen him play yet, so I dunno. Dunno about Murray either, i was never a fan, and not really an Anti-Murray either. Too bad he only wore the sleeveless shirt for only that one day. He was back to those fugly shirts with the collar and ugly dots. I don't think Nike has designed more fuglier clothes. Most people say it doesn't matter but the sleeveless were what MADE Rafa. With the fist pumps and everything. Quote

But hairy on the first set but Murray's stamina was what won him the match I think. Number 2 in the world rankings. Quote
