Polka Dot Rock Posted August 20, 2007 Author Posted August 20, 2007 I have to admit that half of me is hoping the book doesn't arrive, then I won't have to worry about writing the damn review! Ditto! :eek2: Especially as the longer it goes on, the less time I'll have to review it. I might just not open it and return it with 'Not Known At This Address' on it!! Quote
Michelle Posted August 20, 2007 Posted August 20, 2007 Aww c'mon people.. have a little faith in yourselves!! Quote
Freewheeling Andy Posted August 20, 2007 Posted August 20, 2007 I'm quite looking forward to my review because it might get some fun political slanging match going if I'm lucky. Although I suppose I ought to be truthful and tactful rather than just stirring, but I suspect Malcolm X could be controversial enough to get some engagement... Quote
Polka Dot Rock Posted August 20, 2007 Author Posted August 20, 2007 ...I suspect Malcolm X could be controversial enough to get some engagement... Ah I didn't realise you had The Autobiography of Malcolm X! I read it at Uni and it's actually quite a surprising book. It's interesting how only one aspect of his life/career has become the predominant image of him, yet his beliefs and opinions evolved in some interesting ways. It's an intriguing book! Quote
Michelle Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 Mine arrived today. A HUGE book full of poetry.. and I only have 6 weeks?! Quote
LittleLijah Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 Mine hasn't arrived as yet and it's been over 2 weeks since I registered! Quote
angerball Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 Mine arrived today. A HUGE book full of poetry.. and I only have 6 weeks?! Sounds like an exciting read! Sorry! I'm still waiting on mine. :eek2: Quote
~V~ Posted August 23, 2007 Posted August 23, 2007 I got mine a couple of days ago - a huge envelope and I couldn't feel anything in it. I grinned as I opened the envelope Sadly, the book was enclosed... luckily it's only just over 100 pages long. *Phew* Quote
Angel Posted August 25, 2007 Posted August 25, 2007 My book arrived today. Although the plays are 2000 yrs old, it doesn't look too onerous - against some people here I've got off lightly . The book is about 250 pages Quote
Angel Posted August 25, 2007 Posted August 25, 2007 The Pot of Gold and other Plays by Plautus!! There are 5 plays averaging 40-50 pages each. Reading the review they are Greek comedies. Not something I would choose - but I'm up for a challenge and a laugh:lol: Quote
JudyB Posted August 25, 2007 Posted August 25, 2007 I've read Greek tragedy before now and was quite blownaway by them - powerful stuff. Hope you enjoy the comedies. Quote
Nici Posted August 26, 2007 Posted August 26, 2007 Mine arrived a couple of days ago but I don't want to break away from The Stand to read this book so my sister has very kindly agreed to read it and do a review! I will read it as it looks quite good but I can't read two books at the same time. Quote
Mia Posted August 26, 2007 Posted August 26, 2007 I still haven't got mine! I'm not really sure if I'm disappointed or relieved. Quote
happyanddandy Posted August 26, 2007 Posted August 26, 2007 I don't have mine either Mia:smile2: Quote
Mia Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 ...my sister has very kindly agreed to read it and do a review! Nici, is your sister available for hire? She could read and review mine when I finally get it! Quote
madcow Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 Nici, is your sister available for hire? She could read and review mine when I finally get it! Now there's a thought Quote
Nici Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 Nici, is your sister available for hire? She could read and review mine when I finally get it! What an excellent idea! I'm sure she wouldn't mind at all.......ha ha Quote
JudyB Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 I bet she would if I sent her my 700 page philosophical tome. Quote
nicx27 Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 No sign of mine yet either. Hoping it doesn't turn up. Somebody on another forum asked me why I had applied for it if I didn't want it, and I said it was pure greed and the desire for a freebie! Quote
Mia Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 Somebody on another forum asked me why I had applied for it if I didn't want it, and I said it was pure greed and the desire for a freebie! Exactly! I wasn't going to turn down the chance of a free book either. Quote

aromaannie Posted August 28, 2007 Posted August 28, 2007 I received mine this morning - The Virgin and the Gypsy by DH Lawrence. It's only 89 pages long - what a result Quote
