I`m reading that one now ; The Crocodile, the snake and the dog, I think it`s called.

A few more books and I have to decide whether to read them in chronological order or publishing order, `cos two of the books seem to be `flashback` books. Hmm.

I didn't know that … I'll probably just read them in publishing order, as I don't look ahead with series books, just get them in the order so the only thing I know about them are the title :)

#59   The Life changing magic of Tidying - Marie Kondo

Excellent little book. I read it with the intention of having another read before I take up tidying properly - procrastinating ? Never ! - but I`ve already thrown a few things out ( things which I meant to get rid of, but never got round to .  After reading the book, they suddenly stood out ). It`s non-judgemental and there are stories about Marie Kondo`s clients which are illuminating, plus stories about Marie herself which are very honest. Sadly, there are no before-and-after pics, which I would`ve enjoyed.

Just watching the Charlie Rose show and this Dan Harris book on meditation looks interesting.

Also, I was reading my Oprah magazine last night and Kate Mulgrew ( Star Trek Voyager`s Captain  ) has a memoir out, which I`m excited about.

And also also, Pat McDermott has a new book out - she has a very funny column in the Australian Women`s Weekly.

I don`t think my TBR is going to go down any time soon.  :hide:

I saw a review of Kate Mulgrew's book, and it does look interesting.

Thank you ! Choo choo !!  :D  Though I do feel a bit stuck - I don`t feel like reading anything except the comforting Mr and Mrs North books or the Amelia Peabody ones today ; hayfever has hit hard this year and dragged me down with it. The Furry Princess has weepy eyes too.  :cat:

I`ve Kimpled it and shall take a looksie . It`s reminded me of quite how many book excerpts I`ve got, and should really do something about, rather than just adding to them.  :blush2:

Awwww, hayfever can be so difficult to deal with sometimes :(. I have it too, though gladly not as bad as my dad has it sometimes. I feel for you :flowers2:.

Thank you.  :D  It`s such a little, silly thing which really makes me feel awful. Must be more positive !

I hope you and your Dad feel better soon too.  :friends3:

Books read : 59                        TBR 794              New Books Bought : 84                       Total Cost : £ 207.56

Book # 60   The Snake, the Crocodile and the Dog - Elizabeth Peters

The 7th Amelia Peabody book and not my favourite. It`s still enjoyable but I didn`t find it as much fun as previous books .

Book # 61   Murder within Murder - Frances and Richard Lockridge

1940`s New York. Miss Gipson is murdered in the public Library, whilst doing research work for North Books on unsolved murders. Pam and Jerry North investigate, and find that umpteen people wanted her dead, though no-one could`ve dunnit. A funny and interesting read ; I hadn`t realised that the US also had rationing during WW2 ( Pam buys cream and makes her own butter from it in the book).

Book # 62   A Pinch of Poison - Frances and Richard Lockridge

Society girl Lois is murdered in a nightclub and the Norths help to investigate. Lois turns out to have trained in social work and to have volunteered at an adoption agency ; there`s much contrast between her home life and life in the Bronx, where she worked. The authors are so good at describing life in New York ; you can really feel how hot and sticky everyone is in the Summertime.

I`ve ordered a couple more Mr and Mrs North books - Murder out of Turn ( £7.24 ) and Death on the Aisle ( £6.64 ). It`s such a pity these books are all out of print.

Holy Smokes, Pixie !

Look at your book list ! You are doing great this year !

Looks like you are onto a Mystery Kick !

Which ones have you liked best so far ?

Thank you !  :D

A couple of standouts for me have been ..

Voyage into Violence - Frances and Richard Lockridge - Written in the 1950`s, Pam and Jerry North and their friends Lt. Bill and wife Dorian go on a cruise to Cuba, finding time to investigate a ship-board murder. The whole feel of the place really comes across.

No Word from Winifred - Amanda Cross - Professor Kate is asked to investigate the disappearance of the niece of a famous novelist. As the book unfolds, through interviews with people who knew the niece, and through diary excerpts, a picture of a strong, independent woman appears.

Have you read any favourites so far ?

Probably a standout would be The Bullet  --- also loved Whiskey & Charlie ....

and Hissing Cousins for a nonfiction ......

The Bullet did sound really good ; I haven`t been able to find an excerpt for it, but I did find one for her other book Anonymous Sources, which I`ve put on my ` buy at some point` list.
