Your Book Activity - September 2014

It's September already! What are you reading?

 

I'm currently not reading any book but will probably be starting a new one today (because.. you can't just not be reading anything ).

 

I read long books! And I usually start them after the read- a- thons, take a break during the book for the read- a - thon or just simply use that as my read-a- thon book. I mean, the purpose is to see how much you can read in a certain amount of time, right? So, really, you could do it either way. Sometimes, I've even read two books and switched off.

Those are some good ideas. I don't like to read long, complicated, epic books for read-a-thons because they tire me much more so I can't read them all day long, that's why I usually read shorter books for the read-a-thon that are easier to read for me (often some re-reads too). But I could take a break or start it just after the read-a-thon .

Chesilbeach: Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist is on my wishlist. I saw the movie a few years ago and liked it. I hope the book is as good as the movie. I can't wait for your review!  

 

I'm stuck with Therapy. I've really enjoyed reading the book but I haven't had time to read it for a few days now and I'm literally losing the plot! I wonder if I have to start over again. I really want to finish it and not leave it hanging.

It definitely is. Now there are things that I'm not sure happened, or not. Or if they were implied to have happened, or not. And it's such a shame because I was really enjoying the book. But would I be willing to take the time to start it all over again soon? I'm not sure

I've started to read Dave Nasser and Lynne Barrett-Lee - Giant George: Life with the World's Biggest Dog, a biography about George (who's in the Guinness Book of Records) and his family. I bought it on the book fair thinking it sounded nice, so far it's nicely written and I'm enjoying reading about George . Has anyone else heard of it?

I'm struggling a bit with The Mess We're In: Why Politicians Can't Fix Financial Crises, so I decided to pick up A History of 20th Century Britain by Andrew Marr. Although it covers the same topics as The Mess We're In, it is so much more readable. It's not just listing facts in a dry, clinical way...they are being presented in a way that is a lot easier to read and understand (so far, anyway - I haven't finished the first chapter yet  ).

 

Most of the books left on my TBR pile from 2012 (which is what I'm working on getting reduced) are non-fiction, so I will probably be focusing on that for a while (until I get restless).

I hope the second book keeps being good . How many books are on your TBR pile? It's amazing you know from which year they are. I didn't catalogue these things until I joined this forum in beginning 2013 (though online orders I can look up). I hope you enjoy reading some non-fiction. I personally like to switch it up and read both fiction and non-fiction in a period of time, particularly when I'm tired the information can't be too complicated (but I do like reading non-fiction that's less complicated and / or more easily written). What kind of subjects are your non-fiction books about (or is it a mixture)?

 

I'm quite enjoying the book about Giant George, it reminds me a bit of Marley & Me, because that's the only other dog biography book I've read (minus some short Kindle ones). It's quite endearing so far, I can really imagine the dog noises etc. Speaking of dogs, Boris is keeping me company.

I haven't heard of the book but I know Giant George and I follow him on Facebook I was gutted when he died :( But his owner keeps on posting great pics and videos of dogs and all sorts of great dog stuff

 

Edit: Now that I think about it, of course I know of the book   I've seen many people post about it on George's feed to thank for their copy and to say they enjoyed reading the book!

He was really cool- I love that he had his own queen bed!  How on earth could you sleep with a dog like that  Although I would try   (another plus to being single lol)  I love his "blue" color too!  Gosh I love dogs

I like reading non-fiction, but find it much harder work than fiction, which is why most of the remaining unread books are non-fiction (they have kind of just been left till last ).  Most of them are science-related, but there are a fair few economics and history ones as well.

I only picked it up because it was in a 3 for 2 offer, and I'd heard the name somewhere before, but couldn't remember where, so fingers crossed!

 

I finished The Humans by Matt Haig today, and I think it might be my fiction book of the year so far.

About 13% into my reread of I, Claudius for the September Reading Circle.....I love it even more this time around!  It just breezes along!   I'd bought a kindle copy as they were on sale a week or two ago.  I have the old hardbacks from ages ago though.

I started to read Stephanie Perkins - Anna and the French Kiss and am quite far into it. I'm quite enjoying it, should have it finished not too long from now.

Just stared reading Cuckoo's Calling with my dad on my suggestion.  He started immediately (I didn't mean TODAY), but I started tonight, bad, because he reads so much faster than I do.  This puts Trainspotting on the  back burner, unfortunately.  I still have a new Catherine Ryan Hyde book to devour.

My reading mojo has been a bit of a slow page turning again, however I am about half way with 'Mercy' by Jodi Picoult  and making slow progress (only because I am reading 2 books at once) with 'The Villa in Italy' by Elizabeth Edmondson.

 

Kenny gave me a book for my birthday too from my wishlist.

 

'Peaches for Monsieur le Cure' by Joanne Harris.

Ive finished Irvine Welsh's The Sex Lives Of Siamese Twins. I found myself rushing through it so i could get finished and onto my next book as i wasnt enjoying it that much.
