Guilty as charged milady :D But then ... tit for tat and all that :D

Ooh .. hope you enjoy The Library of Unrequited Love .. I did enormously but not sure it's for everyone. I read some bad reviews of it. Try and read it in one lump if you can .. it's only short so it's not that hard to do and it just suits the flow of the book more I think. Be interested to see what you make of it xx

You really wouldn't want to know what/who Mr Blobby is .. possibly the most irritating character ever created .. purposefully really as that was his job .. to irritate the sh*t out of people .. worked tremendously well.

I really want to love it and I have a feeling I will. I'm definitely in the mood for it! And it would be a great read-a-thon read, I could read it in one sitting. It's on its way to my library, with any luck I might be able to get the copy this weekend :) With the crazily customer friendly hours, they are open every day!!

Oh I love my new library! I went in and got two of my book reservations from the self-service shelf and borrowed them on my own. Nobody intervenes with me and my books, I don't have to go and ask someone for them. Nobody will know my face and know that this is the person who reserves 10 books a week :giggle: What a beautiful city I live in!

(Although as a hopefully-in-the-future-librarian, I'm sad. It means less work :( Less interaction with the customers.)

That's great! (@ the first bit)

Not so great (@ second bit).

I guess you can't have it both ways :(. I'm glad you're enjoying your library though :). Are you settling in allright?

LOL. I would loooooove to come and help you arrange your books!! But then I know I would be depriving you of lots of fun. I'm glad you found Deaver. Any sign on JE yet? Maybe you need to make a list of books in each location and tag them on Goodreads or just write them in your notebook. How distressing not being able to find your books! :(

Yes, I would say so :) I went to Helsinki yesterday with a friend, we went to meet two of our mutual friends (my hometown posse). It was so odd and really great that I could visit Helsinki and my friends, just like that! I had a great time :)

Beforehand I thought we were going to go out and I thought maybe it would be easier and cheaper for me to stay over at a friend's place in Helsinki, and not take the night train back to Espoo. But then I felt that I would just miss my apartment, and I felt that I wanted to come home after the meet. It was an odd feeling that I've grown so attached already  But one of the friends had a sore wrist and he was in a flu so we just stayed in. We left at 9PM, I took the tram to the train station and then the train to Espoo. I had to wait about 20 minutes for the train, and I'd been a bit apprehensive about having to spend time at the train station late in the evening. It used to be really restless and occasionally even dangerous to be there at night, but I've heard that that was the old days: nowadays there are more security guards and there are surveillance cameras etc. When I got to the station, I wasn't worried anymore :)

I need to start carrying a book with me when I go to Helsinki: I can read on the train!

Oh I've not been having any fun sorting out the books, it's been a real buggerance for me, I've not enjoyed it at all. I can't decide how to organize the books! Or rather, I have now figured out how to do it, but the books are everywhere and it's an overwhelming task and I can't be bothered. You would make it fun for me, and you'd be such a big help!  :friends3:

I thought about JE and I've come to the conclusion it must be at my parents' house  I have a beautiful Finnish copy, and I didn't like the English copy that much, so I must've thought I'd probably never read it, so I must have taken it to Nurmes.

I have made a list of books I have in Nurmes, in a post on the first page of my reading log, but I haven't put down JE on it for some reason  I should be more organized! These days it seems more of a chore to cross off books off different lists and adding them to others. It used to be fun, and a great deal of fun, but nowadays it's lost its fun :( What the hell has happened??

Yay for Espoo library!!! :smile2:  So pleased you love it, and you'll be able to make plenty of use of it.

I have a tiny library in my town, but I used to love that I knew most of the librarians, and we would have a chat when I borrowed books.  Unfortunately, probably about a year ago, they changed to a self-service system, and they also changed most of the staff as well, moving them all around the different libraries, so now when I go in, I only use a machine, and I hardly recognise anyone.  They've also cut the opening hours, so it's just not the same anymore, and I only really use it for the book group monthly meeting, which used to be run by the library, but now we just use the library as a meeting place. :(

Oh no. :( It's supposed to be a fun things to do, not stressful! Yes, it would be much more fun if we did it together. Have you decided how to sort them yet? When I was sorting mine to shelve, I made 26 piles (because I was doing it alphabetically) and then put them in alphabetical order within each pile. I know it's overwhelming to start with, but once you get started it will hopefully be more fun. Imagine how nice it will look when it's done!

Have you lost your List Mojo? :o That's terrible! Hopefully it'll come back soon.

This might be odd, but I still prefer my Joensuu library to the Espoo one  That's because I've been a customer there for over a decade, and I know some of the staff members, and I know my way around it.

The Espoo library is nice and I love that I don't yet know where everything is and everything's new and I love being able to just take out my reserved books off the shelf. But I have to say, it might be a bit too noisy for my liking. There are people giving talks, there are documentaries that are shown every now and then, all sorts of interactive stuff. The kids are allowed to make more noise. I saw one kid skateboarding there and I was lucky that I was watching where I was going! I love it that libraries go out of their ways to make customers welcome and offer different sorts of things, but I'm more of an old school library person myself

It made me sad to read about your own library in your town. I think unfortunately that's what's going to happen to most libraries, it's inevitable =( It really shouldn't be, but I fear it is. And I'm gutted to hear that the library's given up on running the book groups, too. Not that you guys aren't fully capable of organizing it yourselves, but it just shows how the cutbacks affect so many different aspects =(  :empathy:

I'm pretty sure they're the library's books

Wrong!   :P

You'd be the best person to arrange my bookcase with! However, I've now gotten it sorted out. I just started arranging books by genres and such. I have, for example, shelves for non-fiction, male authors' (auto)bios/letters/diaries, female authors' (auto)bios/letters/diaries, language+literature, Australia books, doggies+other animals, classics, and sci-fi/fantasy. Oh and books acquired based on the recommendations from various BCF members! :D  And within those different sections, I just arranged the books by size and color and paperback vs hardback.

I don't think it looks particularly nice, but the most important thing is that I now have more of a chance to find a certain book I'm looking for :D

Yes, yes yes!! I didn't know what to call it and how to describe it, but yes, I have lost my List Mojo!!!!  :cry2:  I've become so used to having no reading mojo this year (although it's come back now!) that I just can't be arsed to complain about it, but this List Mojo loss is having severe downer effects on me :( Like, WTF???

I have a flu at the moment, nothing too bad though. My throat is sore and I feel very weak. But at least that means I can watch TV and read books with a good conscience. I managed to go to the library to pick up my three reserved books:

The Library of Unrequited Love

The Lonely Polygamist

Beyond Ugly  (a sequel to Ugly  which I read a few years ago and enjoyed. I'm so thrilled they had copies at the library and I didn't have to buy the book :smile2: There were no copies at the Joensuu library...)

Posted

I've just reserved 5 more books from the library :giggle2: It feels almost as great as buying books! :smile2:

I'm afraid of this addiction, now that I know the power of my online library system... mawhahaha :D I've found lots to read, just not enough time to read them!

^ The best thing is, sometimes there are a hundred other people already in line for the novel, so you won't get all the books at the same time. They spread out

I hope you feel better soon, Frankie :flowers2:!

I'm glad you managed to sort your books. I'm quite curious about the 'doggy' section, I'm sure there are some great reads in there.

I'm glad you're having fun reserving books at the library. It's a shame you don't like it as much as your library in Joensuu, but it does make sense as you were so used to that one. I hope this one will grow on you :).

I hope you enjoy your books :). I'm so glad your reading mojo has come back a bit. Sorry to hear about your list-mojo though! Does it mean you're having trouble making lists? :blush2:.

Yes, it's a great collection, but I'm sure most of the books are ones that the dog and other animal loving bunch on here already knows about!

No, it's referring to this post on the previous page:

At first I didn't like it that my room is so small, because I'm used to bigger spaces. My table is next to the bookcase which I thought was annoying, and my table is next to my bed, which I thought was also annoying.

But now that I've lived here for almost 2 weeks (where have the weeks gone!!), I like my room! Having my table next to my bed means that I can watch stuff on my laptop which is on my table, and turn off the computer when I'm in bed.

And the bookcase! There's still room for more books, so there are empty spaces here and there. I can put my coffee mug on the shelf! It's really, really convenient! I don't have to put it on the table and risk knocking the mug over and ruining my laptop. Hurrah! I can also keep some other stuff I use daily on the shelves. Like gum, bookmarks, rings, a candle... whatever I fancy :)

I can't tell you how much I freak out over this happening to me.  I never ever leave any liquids next to my computer or (OMG) Kindle.  I don't even leave them near anything that can be knocked over.  I worked at a radio station for many years, one time, a stupid DJ opened a bottle of Champaign over the soundboard and it went everywhere (obviously).  Ruined the whole brand new $10,000 board.  :o

It takes awhile to get that "homey" feeling in a new place- once, I moved to an apartment that was exactly the opposite of my previous one!  I'd be in the kitchen, trying to find the bathroom :giggle2:
