Karsa Orlong Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Just back from the vet`s - she wowled all the way there ( but didn`t do any open-mouth panting - or wet or pooh herself - as previously happened ) - was fine once she got out of her picnic hamper - she had her jabs and her worm tablet okay - even made friends with the vet and allowed herself to be picked up by him like a baby for a cuddle - he said her coat is much better than a lot of the cats that he sees, and that she might have had flu as a kitten, and that`s why she sneezes and snores at night ( `cos it`s left her with hayfever ) - glad it`s all over for another year ! I didn't know cats got hayfever I thought Pixie might've had flu recently - she was sneezing a lot and wasn't herself for a few days, but she was back to normal after ten days or so. Now she's got fleas I looked down at my feet the other day and saw that a load of bite marks had suddenly appeared all over my calf and ankle. This is because she's spending so much time outside in the good weather, I suppose, and I've stupidly let her go without a flea collar for the last few months So she's got one on now, and I've sprayed all the areas around the house where she sleeps. What with all that and her regular bouts of stomach problems, I have to say she's been far harder work than either of my previous cats Quote
Little Pixie Posted July 16, 2014 Author Posted July 16, 2014 (edited) I'm glad it's all over again, Sarah . Thanks, it`s such a relief ! Hope your chickens and dog are okay. Edited July 16, 2014 by Little Pixie Quote

And, obviously, your ankles too. Xiao-Xiao gets tummy trouble too ; she reacts badly to tuna and to whiskas beef, though I think a lot of the problem is that she`ll catch a bird every 2 or 3 months and make herself poorly from that. Little Pixie Posted July 16, 2014 Author Posted July 16, 2014 Broadband`s quite iffy this week ; it keeps dropping out - they`ve ( Openreach ) been working in the next street - just noticed it`s up to 5.9 Mbts now, from 5.2 though. Quote
Athena Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 Hope your chickens and dog are okay. They are, thanks . We discovered a new little chicken a few days ago, so there's three little little ones now and two bigger little ones (they're in different houses / areas). The dogs are doing well, as are the chicken and the goats (though William, the male goat, still has trouble with his legs). Broadband`s quite iffy this week ; it keeps dropping out - they`ve ( Openreach ) been working in the next street - just noticed it`s up to 5.9 Mbts now, from 5.2 though. That's cool ! Not nice about it dropping out though . I've had problems with my internet the past few days too. We're not yet sure why. Our internet is a lot slower than yours (I think it's 1.5 MB? Maybe 2.0 MB at the max.), and you know it's not working when a speed test won't even finish (stuck after a few seconds on 0.02 MB). At the moment it's working okay though so fingers crossed . Quote

Aw, how lovely - you`ve got quite the menagerie. Have you tried a change of diet for William ? Poor thing. Hmm, don`t think I`ll complain ( as much ) about the Internet now, `cos you`re having real problems there. No-one`s putting in better broadband in the area ? 95% of the UK is supposed to get 24 Mbts by 2017... Quote

I use, for canned, Purina Friskies and Iams for dry. Xiao-Xiao gets half Felix sachets, and half Go Kat crunchies. She did like an occasional Whiskas sachet, but lately has gone off them, so once she`s finished them off, it`ll just be Felix for her. Whiskas does seem to be much stinkier... Do the cats get senior num-nums or regular food ? Edited July 19, 2014 by Little Pixie Quote

Little Pixie Posted July 19, 2014 Author Posted July 19, 2014 Well, right after I told Xiao-Xiao she wouldn`t need to see the Vet for another year, she developed a golf-ball-sized lump on her cheek. She went to the vet this morning ( really happy they could see her the same day ) , who said it was an abscess; it`s been drained and she`s had jabs of anti-biotics and an anti-inflammatory. The lump came back an hour later, but maybe that`s just fluid rather than the nasty pus which came out. The vet said the abscess will probably burst on its own in the next few days ; if it doesn`t, she has to go back mid-week and have it lanced. She`s eating well, and still running about, though she`s pretty squeaky. Quote
pontalba Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Oh, poor baby! Glad she is eating, that's a great sign. Quote

There aren't several kinds of goat food, the shop nearly sells mainly the same things (perhaps a few different brands, that I don't know). I live in a remote area with not so many houses, it's so far considered too expensive to run a cable through the street. We also don't have cable TV. If the vet doesn't know, I don't think there's much we can do. And a goat isn't so easy to take an X-ray of or anything like that. He seems to go through better and worse times. julie Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Pixie I hope they can get your kitty fixed up and healthy again. That sounds pretty painful ! I'm glad you have a good vet that can get it straightened out quickly . Quote

I don`t know if goats are like sheep, who always seem to be limping about ? They have such skinny legs and big bodies and bounce around. Little Pixie Posted July 20, 2014 Author Posted July 20, 2014 Kate, Gaia, Julie - many thanks for your get well wishes for the little one ! She`s still eating well and running about, rolling on her back, climbing curtains ; the lump looks awful, but the vet expects it to burst on its own ( I`m guessing the antibiotics are helping her to feel better, he did say the dose should last for two weeks ) . Poor little girl, we can`t explain that the vet was helping her. Quote

Is that bakery in the same area and willl have the same problem then ? They are but there's definitely something wrong with his legs. He used to walk a lot better when he was younger. The bakery is right next to the main house so yes it has the same problem. But as long as it's working allright, I won't complain much about the speed. I'm glad we have internet here at all. Most providers don't service here. We had dial-up until at university I spoke to the head of the chemical labs and complained to him about the 4 MB attachment he send with his email, which took me half an hour to download. He recommended I checked out our current provider and they did service here! Kate, Gaia, Julie - many thanks for your get well wishes for the little one ! Poor little girl, we can`t explain that the vet was helping her. I'm glad to hear that . Yes, it's a shame sometimes that we can't explain better to our pets we do certain things to help them. I hope she won't develop a fear or something of the vet, that would make things very difficult. One of our dogs, Pamuk, has been treated badly when she was a puppy, by a man, so she's afraid of any strange men, that includes the vet (although you'd think he'd be less strange after a few times..). Boris however is always his joyful happy self when he's at the vet, he doesn't mind it all one bit. Quote
Athena Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 Sarah, I checked and the book of Grijpstra & De Gier that I bought is, De Aangekondigde Dood. I don't think it has been translated. It's one of the ones that was written after an episode of the TV show. It might not be as good as the earlier works, I don't know, but for this price I thought I'd take a shot at it . Quote
Karsa Orlong Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 Sorry to hear Xiao-Xiao is poorly, Sarah - I hope it sorts itself out quickly Pixie got a similar lump on her face a few years back - turned out she'd tried to eat a bee and ... well, you can guess the rest She's not the sharpest tool in the box, my cat Quote
