Athena Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 Thanks - Only three this time, I`m quite proud. You should be ! Quote
Little Pixie Posted July 23, 2014 Author Posted July 23, 2014 Internet`s really iffy. Just got Outsider in Amsterdam (Grijpstra & de Gier Mysteries) - Janwillem Van De Wetering today, am already a few pages in. Quote
Athena Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 I hope your internet gets better soon! Yay! I hope you enjoy the book . Do let me know what you think . Quote
Little Pixie Posted July 28, 2014 Author Posted July 28, 2014 Just a quick post - Xiao-Xiao had her op today for that abscess - 30 min op under general anaesthetic - the vet found a tiny* splinter in the abscess, hopefully that`s what the problem was, though he said it`s difficult to tell if it`s all sluiced out now, `cos the bits can be so small. She`s back home now with a `buster collar`, ie, a cone of shame. The poor girl`s completely spaced out, very unsteady on her feet ; she`s currently dozing near her food dish ( she`s having tiny amounts of food, ` cos she hasn`t eaten for 24 hours. ) She`s got antibiotics for the next five days, and is back at the vet`s on Friday for a check-up. * 2-3 mm, they attached it to her records. Karsa Orlong Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 Best wishes to Xiao-Xiao (and the cone of shame ) Quote

Devi Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 (edited) Awwww poor darling. Our dog hated that cone of shame, would not budge from her bed, and was all depressed when wearing it till we took it off. Edited July 29, 2014 by Devi Quote
Athena Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 Our dog hated that cone of shame, would not budge from her bed, and was all depressed when wearing it till we took it off. Awww . Boris (our dog) just destroyed it, several times. We fixed it with duct tape but it only held for so long. I believe Yossi (our first dog) did a similar thing. Quote
Little Pixie Posted July 29, 2014 Author Posted July 29, 2014 Thanks for the kind wishes, everyone. Hopefully, the cone will come off on Friday, fingers crossed. She has to stay in till then ( luckily it isn`t 28C anymore, `cos that would`ve been really bad in the house ). She`s eating well, if awkwardly, but keeps shaking her head and trying to scratch and wash herself. She`s running about though, and isn`t knocking into too many things now. Quote
Athena Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 I'm glad to hear she's doing a bit better . It'll be very nice for her on Friday when the cone can come off. Quote

I`ve just re-read the tales of woe of doggies-with-cones above ; I`m so glad that she isn`t hiding somewhere with it, too sad to come out. Quote

Little Pixie Posted July 30, 2014 Author Posted July 30, 2014 Me too! Give her some extra pets from me . Aw, will do. Looks like I spoke too soon though ; she`s been hiding away on the windowsill, and under the bed ( surprised she could get the cone under there ) ; I think it`s the antibiotics. She`s just come downstairs now and is having some food ( without the antibiotic this time ), so that`s promising. I`ve just given her a Gaia Cuddle. Quote
Little Pixie Posted July 30, 2014 Author Posted July 30, 2014 I haven`t read it ( yet ), but here`s an excerpt from the new Murakami - Slate. Quote

Maybe the antibiotics make her feel bad, that's quite possible I think. Quote

Mmmm, I tend to have stomach trouble from antibiotics, or headaches, so I imagine it`s the same for animals. She has been snuggling up closely at night, and purring to herself ( there`s an idea that the frequency of a cat`s purr is healing ); paws crossed that tomorrow, the cone can come off and she can go outside to play again. Yes, there are quite a few articles about it - Scientific American. And thanks, it`ll be so nice for her to be able to run about freely again ( cats are such free spirits). Quote
Athena Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 That's a lot of books! I look forward to read what you think them . Quote

pontalba Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 Interesting article from SA. Thanks for posting LP. I hope the "cone of shame" (poor baby!) came off today. Also look forward to some review of the books above. Great list! Quote
Little Pixie Posted August 1, 2014 Author Posted August 1, 2014 The cone stays on ! Noooooooo !!! Grr, her operation site is healing nicely, but she`s scratched herself ( before the op ) above her eyebrows, and the vet now thinks she could have something itchy and that`s what caused the abscess, when she scratched away at it. She`s had another anti-inflammatory, and another antibriotic, jabs , and has some flea/mite stuff to put on her neck tonight ( when she had her check-up a few weeks ago, she didn`t have any fleas, but I suppose that mites don`t show up, plus maybe it`s worsened by her immune system being low with the abscess ? ) Anyway, she`s quite fed-up ; the vet said the cone could come off on Monday at the very earliest, but to put it back on at night, and on again permanently if she starts scratching. The vet hopes that her last appt. will be next Friday. Quote
