Signor Finzione Posted October 21, 2013 Author Posted October 21, 2013 I have this set on my bookshelf, I might bump it up the pile. They look very pretty on the shelf, don't they? They're worth reading, I was just a bit disappointed with this one as an ending to the series. I'm looking forward to reading his Lightbringer series - it's supposed to be really good. Quote

Signor Finzione Posted October 21, 2013 Author Posted October 21, 2013 (edited) Yes me too, i have the first two? out of the lightbringer series. I only have the first one, but have wanted to buy the second one since I found out it was nominated for the Gemmell Award. Let me know when you've read them! I bought this trilogy recently, been on my radar for ages. Did you write reviews for the first two? No, I only started writing reviews for books I read after joining the forum last month - sorry. It's been a few months since I read the first two in the series (I didn't buy the third one until recently), which is maybe why I didn't enjoy this one as much - I usually like reading a series all at once. I do seem to remember that the first two were a lot more compelling character-wise, particularly for the characters of Kylar and Logan. You'll have to add them to your next reading plan and let me know whether or not you agree. Edited October 21, 2013 by Signor Finzione Quote
Timstar Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 (edited) Hehe, might have to... but then again you also wanted RoT, SOIAF and Malazan Edited October 21, 2013 by Timstar Quote
Athena Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 I have this trilogy on my TBR. I only own the first book of the Lightbringer series, the second one has been out of stock for a while now and used copies are really expensive, might have to look into trying a different shop. I haven't yet read any of the Night Angel Trilogy but it's great to hear that you liked them. Great review . I skipped over a few parts as to not spoil what happens in the first two books, for myself (ie. I didn't read the synopsis), as I prefer to go into a series without knowing much about what happens in the books, other than the synopsis on the back of the book I'm reading and non-spoilerish things about the book. Your reviews are really good though, are you sure you've never written reviews before ? x Hehe, might have to... but then again you also wanted RoT, SOIAF and Malazan x Just for me, what does RoT stand for? I can't figure it out and Google won't help me. Did you mean WoT (Wheel of Time)? Quote
Timstar Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Just for me, what does RoT stand for? I can't figure it out and Google won't help me. Did you mean WoT (Wheel of Time)? Apologies, it's Republic of Thieves by Scott Lynch. But I know you want WoT on all my reading plans... getting hard to please everyone! Quote
Athena Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Ah! That makes sense. ! If you ask me, you should read what you feel like, not what other people might say you should read . Although of course it's hard not to be influenced by what other people say, I find that I feel more like reading a certain book if someone from this forum posts a positive review about it. Quote
Karsa Orlong Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Read Malazan, forget the rest until afterwards. You'll please at least two people that way Quote

Oh don't worry I always read what I want, just people wanting me to read things makes me want to as well... Read Malazan, forget the rest until afterwards. You'll please at least two people that way Gotta finish First Law before that and ASOIAF, both recommended by you I might add Quote

Your reviews are really good though, are you sure you've never written reviews before ? I don't blame you for skipping bits of my review, I've been told that they can be quite spoilery. I can't seem to help myself. I'm looking forward to reading the Lightbringer series next year, once I've bought the second one. It's a shame that the second book is hard for you to get hold of - it's all over the tables at my local Waterstones. Thank you, by the way! I'd never written a review before I started using this site, but I find that it's getting quicker and easier to write them. (My first review - for the Name of the Wind - took me about two hours to write because I was thinking too hard about what I wanted to say ). Quote

Athena Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Thank you! I'm already working on a new plan for when I've finished. x Yay! I look forward to see what it'll be . I had the plan of reading some Christmas themed books before Christmas, but I'm still reading IT by Stephen King (and some non-fiction) and it's taking a while. I might just have to read the Christmas themed books alongside IT, if I want to read them before it's Christmas (and I do!). Quote

Which ones do you always watch? For me Home Alone and Home Alone 2 have the biggest nostalgia factor, because these used to be on every year on TV here and I love them. There are other good Christmas films that I like but I've watched Home Alone and Home Alone 2 the most times. Love Actually is another one that comes to mind, but it's my boyfriend's and he can't access most of his DVD collection atm. I'd love to see it again sometime, though, maybe in the future. Sorry if this is too off-topic for your reading log. More on topic: I own a couple of Christmas themed books that I haven't read yet. I read some Christmas themed books last year and really enjoyed doing that. There's one chick-lit book, one contemporary fiction ish book, and one classic, and also a short story on my Kindle. Quote

Signor Finzione Posted October 22, 2013 Author Posted October 22, 2013 I don't like the Muppets. They gave me nightmares when I was a child, especially the evil pink one. I forgot about Die Hard . . . and Monty Python's Life of Brian, which is kind of a Christmas film. Quote
