I'd highly recommend the Barsetshire books :) .. I've only read one Palliser and that was good too but hard going as more political. Anyway .. free Trollope!! .. got to be a bargain :)

Ooh, good to know. Thanks. :D

And the latest free Kindle books which I`ve downloaded...

The Letters of Robert Browning and Elizabeth Barrett Barrett, Vol. 1 (of 2) 1845-1846 - Browning, Robert

I didn't know about their letters having been published, this is going on my wishlist  I might have it completely wrong but I think the two were rather lovey-dovey...

I may have accidentally bought some books. :blush2:

I went into the Save the Kitties shop - great book selection, always - and ended up getting 17 books for £8. :D

Suite Francaise - Irene Nemirovsky     Seen lots about this one and it`s in a nice hardback.

Coastliners - Joanne Harris              Read a couple of hers and liked them.

Committed - Elizabeth Gilbert         I have the Eat, Pray, Love book in my TBR. This is the sequel.

When we were Orphans - Kazuo Ishiguro             I read the `Floating World` book years ago.

Area Code 212  and Slaves of New York - Tama Janowitz

The Surgeon - Tess Gerritsen             A Rizzoli and Isles book.

Black Money - Ross MacDonald            Read 4 of his other Lew Archer detective books.

In the Presence of the Enemy - Elizabeth George               Inspector Lynley, I`ve read a couple in the series.

The Private Lives of Pippa Lee - Rebecca Miller

East into Upper East - Ruth Prawer Jhabvala

Silhouette in Scarlet - Elizabeth Peters

The Coroner`s Lunch - Colin Cotterill

Calling a dead Man - Gillian Cross

Death and the Dogwalker, Death for Old Time`s Sake - AJ Orde

Silent in the Grave - Deanna Raybourn   Started reading this one already - can`t put it down ! :D  It has a great beginning - excerpt.

I`m only familiar with the film The Barretts of Wimpole Street, which is rather swoon-worthy. :D

740  :giggle2:

Are you aiming for 800 before the end of the month?  :D

You mean 718, I`m sure. snooty.gif

And since they were @50p, it`s only really like buying one new paperback in a shop. 01.gif

Ah, denial. ;)

When they`re so cheap, I just can`t help myself. :giggle2:

Still hoping to get down to a TBR of 680 by the end of the year. Might have to order the other two Deanna Raybourn books though, if the first one ends as well as the first three chapters of the one I got today. :readingtwo:

That is a nicely varied list LP!  And, for a good cause. :D  Can't beat it!

I think the Save the Kitties charity place has the best selection in town - and certainly the best prices. I`ve bought quite a few books in there to try out the author, then gone and bought the rest of that author`s books. And, if it`s helping kitties to be fed and kept in cat toys, what`s not to like ? :D

They also have a drop-off point near the till for cat food donations. Oh, and they have a donation box at my local supermarket, too, as does the local doggies` place.

Nice that you bought some books :)! I didn't know there was a sequel to Eat, Pray, Love. I have that one on my TBR.

She seems to have written quite a few books which I wasn`t aware of - click. Some of those look good.

I read just over 230 pages yesterday of the Deanna Raybourn book yesterday - it`s soooo good. It reminds me a bit in tone of the Mary Russell books. :D

Save the Kitties sounds like a really nice place :).

I also bought a couple of small black handbags ( one leather ) in there, for £1 each. They don`t even look like they`ve been used. I wouldn`t generally look at things other than books, but the handbags looked so nice !

I just had to stop typing `cos Xiao-Xiao ( the small furred one ) came up to me and needed a cuddle.

Awww, that's so sweet :)! I hope you enjoy your handbags. Very unfeminine of me, but I don't own any handbags and much prefer a 'rugsack'. I wouldn't want to have one for myself, though I do understand why many women like them (and I don't mind it at all when someone else has one).

I understand -sometimes you need something large enough for a book. And you get to have both hands free.

I always have a book with me :D (or lately my Kindle). One of the other reasons is also that a handbag you need to wear on for example one shoulder. I feel imbalanced if I have weight on one arm and not the other, thinking it'll fall off. I much prefer to have the weight more evenly distributed amongst me (also, when I was a child and teenager I had rugsacks, so I'm used to them).

Gosh, I must have 3 dozen purses....various sizes and shapes and colors.....I'm quite shameless about them!  lol  Whenever we pass the purse department in a store, Charles takes a tighter hold on my hand and says softly, you have that color, you have that color........hee hee

Seriously though, Gaia, all of the purses I've bought the last several years are long handled, cross body strap purses.  Makes a world of difference, they balance nicely.

The one thing I don't like about rucksacks is the accessibility to people in back, or to the side of you.  I worry about someone stealing a wallet or something out of something like that.  But we have a friend that always uses them too.  She says there is not a problem.  /shrugs/  I'm a worrier. :D

My new leather handbag is a cross-body one ; I`m thinking it`ll be handy in Winter, when I have a large coat and big scarf on. We`ve had lots of mild Winters, then suddenly 2-3 years ago, bam ! There was ice on the river, hoar frost on the trees, and we actually had -20C here. Every Winter since has been coooold.

That sounds nice :). I agree about the accessibility from the back, though I never put my wallet in my rucksack. I keep my wallet, phone and keys in my pockets.

I never used to be big into bags till i started to need to carry pain killers and other meds around. I worry about being an easy target for bag thieves because of my sticks and all, so i still carry my wallet in my pocket.

I`m guessing that a rucksack would be easier for you, too ?

I`m hoping it was just a temporary weather glitch. Erm, for three years. :hide:

We are much better off than the countryside ; a few miles out, they get a real dumping of snow. Here - when/if it snows - it`s a delight.  For me, at least. :giggle2:

I`ve been busy catching up with the newspapers ; they tend to pile up when I go through a bookish phase, and I want to get them out of the way for 1. recycling ( which gets picked up from the house every fortnight )  and 2. so I can focus on books again for the readathon.

Sounds like a good plan :)! Are you enjoying reading the newspapers, anything particularly interesting that you read about?

I do pay special attention to the book sections... :blush2:

This Sandi Toksvig  extract on etiquette amused me. :giggle2:
