  1. I do find that some books energise you and some book really take it out of you.
  2. Books bought>Books read. Seems normal.
  3. I decided to give myself an Easter present by buying some more of the Frances & Richard Lockridge books which I love ( they wrote the Mr and Mrs North books, which appaarently are coming out on Kindle in the US ). I got 15 of the Lt. Nathan Shapiro and Captain Heimrich mysteries for £58.37 ( pretty good, considering they`re coming from the US ). Mr and Mrs North ebooks Books read : 45 TBR 828 New Books Bought : 49 Total Cost : £147.87
  4. Ooh, lovely new books. Aw, that`s really nice of the publisher, supplying the library with the Stilton books.
  5. I think that`s the book`s USP. Other things disappear in the Little Sisters` book - like corpses - but I just need to find out how a pool vanishes.
  6. Books read : 45 TBR 813 New Books Bought : 34 Total Cost : £ 89.50 I treated myself to another book - The Black Rustle : Constance and Gwenyth Little. From Amazon - " Bodies and a swimming pool disappear in this wacky mystery set at a vacation house in the country during World War II."
  7. I particularly like the little girl with the Milly Molly Mandy book - a Book Worm of the Future.
  8. Subway Book Review - what a great idea !
  9. Thanks ! Ooh, I hadn`t noticed that ( unusual for me, I wonder how I managed that. )
  10. Books read : 45 TBR 812 New Books Bought : 33 Total Cost : £ 80.91 Books bought - £8.03 - The Basle Express- Manning Coles ( another Rue Morgue Press classic), All Souls - Javier Marias ( Kate says he`s good ) I also got a whole bunch of Maigret books for Kindle, 12 @ 99p.
  11. Still, I get the vicarious thrill of other people getting new bookshelves.
  12. #45 How the Light Gets In - Louise Penny The 9th in the Inspector Gamache series. A woman in her 70`s goes missing just after visiting the village of Three Pines, and Gamache investigates, finding that the victim was once world-famous. As the book goes on, a smaller storyline ( corruption in the Surete ) takes over and it turns into one of the most nail-bitingly suspenseful books I`ve read in a long time. If there`s a thing as too page-turnery, this is it ; I almost turned to the end of the book to make sure that my favourite characters would be okay.
  13. Noooo, poor you ! Flu is so debilitating. Hope you feel much better soon. Hurray, glad the book`s good.
  14. Ooh, I hadn`t heard of him at all, so it`s great that you`re giving him a thumbs-up, being a `proper reader ` and all. I am tempted by All Souls, though I think it`ll be one of those ` need to be in the mood ` to read books ( those complex sentences seem like the sort of thing requiring dedicated reading, rather than my current ` pick up during TV adverts` mode of reading ).
  15. Ooh, a new book case ! Always exciting. I could do with another one, but where to squish it in.....
  16. That`s such a lovely pic.
  17. When I read the first one, I found I really got into it around page 60 or so. It`s a bit ` plug away till you get the a-ha moment `.
  18. Hurray, you liked The Eyre Affair ! Welcome to the Secret Club.
  19. That`s great when a series gets itself out of a hole. For me, it`s tough to give up on a series when you loved the first few books so much; I keep reading in the hope that the author recaptures what drew me to the books in the first place.
  20. #43 Death and the Dead Deb - Alice Kimberly Another author visits Penelope`s bookshop and gets bumped off. Pen and her resident ghost Jack investigate. Fun. #44 The Black Honeymoon - Constance and Gwenyth Little Can you murder someone with feathers ? is the tagline for this screwball comedy mystery. Wartime nurse Miriel marries soldier Ian after a whirlwind romance and they move into his family`s home for their honeymoon. Turning up, they find their honeymoon on hold when a group of Ian`s relatives have also turned up... and moved in. Ian`s rich Uncle then dies mysteriously whilst Miriel is nursing him alone in the hospital, and she starts investigating ( before the Police arrest her as a likely suspect) alongside Kelly, her father`s friend and private investigator ( who dons a fake moustache and goes undercover as a butler ). Miriel is wonderfully sarcastic and likeable, having to deal with all sorts of odd goings on ( there`s moaning in the empty attic, a ghost in the garden, and a macabre, jaw-droppingly twisty ending which I didn`t see coming. ) Great fun.
  21. I had a look at some Charlottesville bookshop pics ; I like the look of Daedalus, with books crammed everywhere.
  22. Trapped finale - excellent ! Hope they make a 2nd season. Mrs G goes to College, aka The Gertrude Berg Show - Jewish Grandmother goes to college. Delightful.
  23. The Shannara Chronicles ( not bad ), The Flash, Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow ( not sure yet ), Rizzoli and Isles.
  24. I read an interview with Spanish author Javier Marias recently ( here`s another one I found on line ) - I`d never heard of him before, but I do like the look of his book All Souls. Another one for the get-to-at-some-point list. Gretchen Rubin - Tips for getting more reading done. Lots of good tips in the comment section too.
  25. I want to get round to the David Mitchell and Emily Wotsit books at some point.
