  1. Lots of lovely Robert B Parker books there. After watching the series, I quite fancy trying one of the King & Maxwell Baldacci books.
  2. It`s been a year this week that Xiao-Xiao became a furry family member ; here`s a pic.
  3. Wow, you`ve done lots of reading ! Congrats. Awww.
  4. I would`ve guessed around 100, so 256 was a bit scary. Yes, hopefully I won`t find that I want to read all of them...
  5. I`ve just counted them and it`s 256. Eep.
  6. Thank you ; I`m putting it on my ` buy used when there`s a cheapie one` list . The review I read compared it to the Carbonel series, which I have such lovely memories of reading when I was maybe 7 ( I did a re-read a few years ago, when it turned out that there was a third book in the series, which I hadn`t known about - obviously, I had to buy it and re-immerse myself in the delights of the books ).
  7. I`m getting a bit behind with things ; focusing on books has meant my newspapers piled up, so I`ve spent the past couple of days catching up with them ( and with S2 of Orphan Black, which is my very favourite thing on TV atm ). This book - The Cat who came in off the Roof - had a big write-up in a newspaper`s books` section. It`s translated from Dutch and is apparently a classic in Holland ( Gaia ? ). It does look a lot of fun.
  8. I think I may use August`s read-a-thon to catch up with my Kimples and have a good look at things I`ve downloaded to Kindle, with a view to actually reading some of them.
  9. Asterix books are a lot of fun - they`re beautifully drawn in such detail and the expressions are so funny. I have around 15 of them ; this was a re-read.
  10. " Hey, it looks really cool ! End of test."
  11. Yesterday, I got up to page 218 of Aunt Julia and the Scripwriter, and also read Asterix the Gaul ( 48 pages ) and Asterix and the Golden Sickle ( 46 pages ). Total for the weekend - 770 pages. Hope everyone else had a good time.
  12. I`ve Kimpled ( ) the first of the Kate Burkholder books. Thanks for the heads-up.
  13. I`m glad that things have worked out for her and she`s not being subjugated anymore.
  14. Thank you - yes, it was lovely. Friday : 240 pages of The Sum of our Days ( Isabel Allende ) Saturday : the last 60 pages of The Sum of our Days, all of Italo Calvino`s Mr Palomar ( 118 pages ) , the last few pages of Aphrodite ( Isabel Allende ) ( maybe 40 pages ) and the first 63 pages of Mario Vargas Llosa`s Aunt Julia and the Scriptwriter. Sorry that your mojo was down this weekend, Gaia.
  15. You`d also think they`d run some tests before letting the PC go to its new home.
  16. Are you still in touch with your friend at all ? That`s awful that she was so bullied.
  17. That looks horrible ! Eww ! Poor you.
  18. I`ve started on Isabel Allende`s The Sum of our Days.
  19. Books read : 101 TBR 779 New Books Bought : 139 Total Cost : £266.66 Book # 101 Conversations with isabel Allende ( edited by John Rodden ) A collection of 34 interviews, published in 1999. Five of them were new, and most were translated from Spanish, Dutch and French ( and from literary magazines I`d not heard of ). All are in Q&A format, which I find lets you make your own mind up, rather than be swayed by the interviewer, and cover the books The House of the Spirits, Of Love and Shadows, Eva Luna, The Stories of Eva Luna, The Infinite Plan, and Paula. If you`re a fan, they`re inspiring and informative, discussing the writer`s working habits and her life in exile from Chile, in Venezuela and California.
  20. I ordered a Steve Martin DVD too ( My Blue Heaven, for £5 ) and did wonder if I could get away with just ordering 2 or 3 books to get free p&p... Then the problem was that once I had free p&p, I thought I should take advantage of it to order more books... There`s always some excuse.
  21. The Dutch one is coming from the US, so it might take a while to get here ( and there`s no telling how long it`ll stay in the TBR... )
  22. ^^ Eep, did they catch him in the end ??
  23. Oh dear, why have fans then, if they`re not needed ? Glad you got it all fixed.
  24. Aw, I loved, loved, loved The Weather in the Streets. Yikes on the toe. Ouch.
