  1. Thanks Gaia, I am ok, I just feel odd and I feel the need to do something productive, I just haven't decided what yet! I think seeing someones life cut off too early makes me want to do something to make sense of it and to make sure I make the most of my time in this world. That paragraph came along at just the right time, it makes complete sense to me so I am going to keep it somewhere close by to remember.
  2. Hi pink_girl, welcome to BCF!
  3. Wow, fantastic Sari! Well done, maybe we will see some pics at some point? Cool that you've seen dogs and cats already, what sort of dogs were they, were they friendly?
  4. The Humans is another book impatiently waiting on my TBR shelves (Not that long ago I used to be able to say shelf, not shelves!) I enjoyed The Radleys and I like dogs so I really must get around to it soon! Great review, as always.
  5. I find him very hit and miss Ben, have loved some and with others I couldn't even finish, Charlotte Gray is a great example, I have tried so many times to read it as everything about it appeals to me, except I can only ever get 100 pages or so into it before I just can't read any more. Maybe I should try the film adaptation.. I am enjoying his latest book, Where My Heart Used To Beat, but I really need more time to dedicate to it as I find his writing quite deep and thoughtful so I can't read it as quick as I can other books. Sometimes he really seems to speak to me personally, I had a horrid personal experience on Friday that I am trying to forget and then I read this paragraph.. I went down the steps to the calanque to clear my thoughts. I do like the metaphors we give to things. How do you 'clear' your thoughts? You only have other thoughts with which to do the job;'thoughts', therefore are blockage and broom. I suppose what we mean is that we should stop reasoning and try to 'feel' - which presumes that what we 'feel' is more valuable than anything we think...
  6. I have a few Steinbeck on my shelves but have still only read Of Mice and Men, and that was in my teens. Yes, BB, it is After You, it has the most uninspiring book cover so hopefully it is better inside! I am struggling a little with the latest Sebastian Faulks but I think more because I don't have much time to read at present and he is a reader you realling need to get into as he is quite intense, once I have finished that I need to read After You and Library of Souls.
  7. I can't stop thinking about it, I was scared to go to bed last night as thought I wouldn't be able to sleep for thinking it over and over but thankfully I was exhausted enough to have a decent night. Charlie seems to be fine, I was worried as he can be emotional over things like this but he didn't know the man and it was the first time he had played him so no real connection I suppose. I think we may send a note to his family if I can get some contact details, it may help a smidge to know that others are thinking abut them.
  8. I have Talking Pictures Janet, but will admit to not being overly enamoured with it, probably because my expectations were too high. I'm hoping the pictures in Library of Souls are on a par with the first Miss Peregrine book as I felt the ones in Hollow City weren't quite as good, most of them looked like any old pictures you might see.
  9. Charlie and I had a horrible evening yesterday. His team had a badminton match against another team and one of their opponents collapsed and died. A few of us tried to help but our limited first aid wasn't enough and the leisure centre staff were no better, the ambulance arrived quickly but despite trying for almost an hour couldn't keep him going. So so sad. For a few years I have been considering doing a proper St John's course and I think I really must now, I've done the odd day course here and there but clearly they didn't prepare me as much as I would have hoped.
  10. Welcome Sorina, my husband works in Iraq with a Romanian man, he often talks about how beautiful your country is
  11. I've just popped it into my Amazon basket as I was just about to buy a book for my brother's birthday, one for him, one (or maybe two, three) for me.
  12. I think if you look at her reviews, Me Before You was definitely the best received. After You is the sequel (or the next in the series, who knows!) but I can't believe it can come close to Me Before You. How funny that you have all the ones I've read, I believe Paris For One is a short read? I must look it up.
  13. Yep, got them! :) I've read 5 Jojo Moyes so far, and would recommend them in the following order.. Me Before You 5/5 The Girl You Left Behind 5/5 The Last Letter From Your Lover 4/5 Silver Bay 4/5 The One Plus One 2.5/5 I still have these on my TBR shelf.. Sheltering Rain The Horse Dancer The Ship of Brides And of course After You, which I will almost certainly read in the next few weeks. Which ones do you have?
  14. Yes Janet, Ransom is a man, and a fine and quirky writer too! Thanks Kylie but I doubt you'll want my copy as it has its rounds planned, first me, then my Mum, then my Mums friend, then back to me to lend to two of my friends! At least that's all at the mo, there may be more depending on how good it is!
  15. A Nak'd bar.. Need a snack before running the kids around to their sports!
  16. I got mine today too! The hardback, and would have preferred the paperback.. shame we're not closer to one another, we could have swapped!
  17. Well, if you do, check with me first as I may well still have a spare copy! Why is September such a good month for book releases? A trip to Waterstone's today for Ransom Riggs third (and final?) book in the Miss Peregrine trilogy, Library of Souls and After You by Jojo Moyes, the follow up to her highly successful Me Before You. I'm currently reading the latest Sebastian Faulks but I'm DESPERATE to get to these two!
  18. Heading into town shortly, hoping to purchase the lastest Miss Peregrine book and maybe the new Jojo Moyes book too if I like the sound of the synopsis
  19. You're not arrogant at all, it's very impressive, as long as we all enjoy our reading that's the important thing. I'll look forward to you reading The Language of Flowers, I've not known anyone not enjoy it yet so hopefully you will too.
  20. Great news Sari, sounds like everything is going smoothly and to plan, not long now!
  21. No problem Janet, I think its theme will probably be only suited to a minority, I have always been interested in psychology and the history of WWI and WWII so it could have been written just for me!
  22. Hmm, not sure I'm loving the yeast infection analogy, please don't mention that one when you're on a date, I know from bitter experience that things women can joke about between themselves rarely translate well with the opposite sex! What will be will be, I wonder what your neighbours will be like? Hopefully a lovely, friendly (but not toooo friendly), intelligent, book loving guy, who loves long walks with his very friendly and cuddly dog... I'll pm you my phone number just in case!!
  23. In the last week I've finished We Never Asked for WIngs by Vanessa Diffenbaugh (amazing, a huge 10/10, easily one of my favourite authors ever) and Pushing the Limits, a YA book by Katie McGarry. I'm now started Where My Heart Used to Beat by Sebastian Faulks, I'm longing for another good one from him.
  24. Hi Gaia, you've made The Lost Daughter very tempting but I really must read the other five books I have of hers before I acquire any more. How many books does that mean you have read in 2015 now? I guess you may be getting close to my huge total of 36? I can't remember if you've said, but have you read The Language of Flowers as yet? I just read her latest book, We Never Asked for Wings, and it was just as good, how often does that happen?
  25. Which ones have you read Janet? Human Traces was amazing but I don't actually know anyone else who has read it so I have no idea what you might think of it, I do have a spare copy if you fancy trying it.. I tend to pick up the odd copy in charity shops in case I find a willing victim participant!
