  1. Great review of The Third Wife, Ruth. I thoroughly enjoyed The House We Grew Up In and have this one on my wish list.
  2. Oh wow, he ate the whole jar.. No wonder he didn't like it!
  3. That's the best way to eat marmite, dip your (clean) finger in as far as you can and lick it off! Better still with a stick of strong cheddar!
  4. Don't knock it till you've tried it Woolf, it's been one of the harder ones for me to give up, especially straight from the oven!
  5. Steve discovered this when he took some out to Baghdad (He has a lot of American colleagues). They now love them and he takes lots back every time he comes off leave!
  6. Ha, these dogs are such characters! I'm probably late to notice but is Pamuk named after the author Orhan Pamuk?
  7. Are you mad? No chance, he'll never notice!
  8. Hope your mojo returns soon Ian.. I'm afraid I give up very easily these days, If I'm not hooked within a day or so I figure there are plenty of other books out there to read!
  9. I'd say that is a fact rather than a controversial statement...
  10. Hopefully he will be better soon if it is the flu, are you able to separate Boris and Pamuk as if it is flu it is likely to be contagious.
  11. Oh poor Boris, it does sound like a blockage so hopefully will be a relatively straightforward surgery if so. Is it possible to clip Komondors to make them more comfortable? He must get so hot bless him. Let us know how he gets on. Hopefully your tooth will feel better soon, make sure you make an appointment soon if not, I know you don't like the dentist but probably better than being in pain, toothache is the worst!
  12. Don't you love it when that happens? Especially in a positive way. I would say that is sometimes my biggest disappointment with reading, you read what you think is a wonderful story, only to find that it has either a weak ending, or that the author has decided to end the book in a way that you don't agree with! (I sometimes mentally rewrite an ending when this happens! )
  13. It was just too odd for me, and I couldn't stand the main character, I could only read a few pages at a time so knew it wasn't going to be a winner. Well, Robbie was at school so I cheated and avoided the Book Box as I fancied this one!
  14. Thanks Noll, he seems to have stabilised for now as long as I only take him for short walks, basically just a chance to have a good sniff round and grumble at the odd Golden Retriever! In book news, I am helping organise the Christmas Fair at Robbie's school and unfortunately a lot of the books have been dropped off at my house.. You all know what that means!
  15. It was on Sky On Demand so I have downloaded it to watch with my older two. I'm not sure when though as I'm A Celebrity starts on Sunday and they are both big fans and despite by reticence I always end up watching it too!
  16. I've given up on The Humans by Matt Haig, not my cup of tea at all.. Will start Inside The O'Briens by Lisa Genova this evening hopefully.
  17. I've not come across that film Woolf, will have to keep an eye out on Sky for it!
  18. Has anyone read The Colorado Kid? I watch the TV series Haven and it is loosely based on it so wondered if it would be worth a go?
  19. That pic isn't helping me get around to reading The Stand!
  20. Welcome to the forum, see you around!

  22. It is a real mindset you have to get into and sometimes I find it easier than others. I can go without sugar easily and even the alcohol isn't too much of a challenge but the grains are a little harder. They do make me feel tired and lethargic, and sometimes a little nauseous too so I do my very best to eat very little of them. The less you eat of them the better you will feel, but if you do cheat you will find they have a greater effect on you once your body is not used to them.
  23. Yes, the 5th of November is Guy Fawkes night where we commemorate his attempt to blow up the Houses of Parliament in 1605, bonfires and fireworks abound in the week around the date with many public shows taking place. Robbie wasn't keen in the end so we just watched a few from our window and had a quiet night in. Charlie went out with a few friends to the village show and Maddie went to Wentworth Golf Course with a friend and her family for the large show held there. Thankfully Obi and Jojo aren't overly bothered by the bangs so I was just careful to wait until they had all finished before letting them in the garden. I've started The Humans by Matt Haig, not what I was expecting at all!
  24. I've had a good reading week, I started and finished The Ashgrove by Diney Costeloe (4.5/5) and Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon which was a different but good YA book. Now starting The Humans by Matt Haig.
  25. Maybe it was one of those trending recommendations? A few of those have caught my eye. A soggy day here, watched the boys play and referee football in the rain and gales and just walked Jojo, thankfully not raining quite as much for that, it's so mild she even managed a little swim, not bad for November! Off to badminton next, then maybe the fireworks if Robbie is bothered.
