  12. What a great review Sugar. I read this a few years back and remember feeling similar to how you did. This review has prompted me to re-read it actually! To be honest I didn't even realise it was classed as a children's book, a colleague suggested reading it so picked a copy up. Great book, definitely goes down on my list as a classic. Would highly recommend reading it! Andie P x

  15. As some of you may now know I am a huge horror fan!! I have been trying to find some really good short stories out there. I have read a few of Stephen Kings short stories (and I am sorry to say this, truly!) I haven't found one I really like. I have read a few on the net including on Wyrd Books and Black Static. Just wondering if anyone has come across any they would recommend? Andie P x
  16. Bloody work is getting in my way of reading, damn you!!!! I could be poor and just live with my books??
  17. Hi Parenthesis welcome to the forum! Will be looking forward to chatting with you. Why don't you post your reading list? I always like looking at those as I too am a lurker! Andie P x
  18. Just started The Man in the picture by Susan Hill, I am in the 4th chapter and again I am hooked. Why have never come across her work before? Review to follow very soon! Andie P x
  19. Hiya Ben, yeah I agree they tend to put most of the good clips in the trailer but I still can't wait to see it. The only other thing that worries me is that I a bit older now (I won't tell you how old) since the first ones came out so I hope I still find the humour just as good! I will let you know when I see it on Wednesday. Andie P x
  20. Hi Sarah, I haven't long joined the forum and I am so so pleased I did! Lot's of like minded people around here!! Welcome!! Andie P x
  21. So, who's looking forward to seeing this? I was a huge fan of American Pie but after maybe the second one I lost interest. Mainly because I missed the old characters...have just seen an advert for the film and believe it is in cinema's on Wednesday...and it has all the original characters including my fav..Stiffler!!! If you see it let me know what you think! Andie P x
  22. Don't be afraid of the dark.....appalling film..although I had some jumpy moments it was really unrealistic, don't think I even watched it all to the end! Andie P x
  23. Sorry this has taken so long but here is my review for The Women in Black...enjoy!!! The Women in Black was first published in 1983, when I read this I became concerned that I may find it too ‘old fashioned’ as usually I enjoy modern horror/paranormal stories. However, the book remained current and from the first chapter I was hooked. This is the first time I have read any of Susan Hill’s work, I am now a huge fan and have just purchased another two of her books, she is a fantastic atmospheric writer and has the ability to draw you in with ease. I have heard the book being described as ‘good old fashioned ghost story’, for me it certainly includes all the usual staples of a ghost story but it is not ordinary or predictable. It had me looking over my shoulder on many occasions (which rarely happens). The story is narrated by the protagonist, Arthur Kipps. It begins with Arthur spending Christmas with his family and then jumps back to his time as a young Solicitor, Arthur retrospectively begins a memoir of the frightening experiences of when he was asked to take care of the estate of the deceased Mrs Alice Drablow. Most of the story is based within the eerie Eel Marsh House, belonging to Mrs Drablow. Arthur decides to spend a few nights inside the house whilst he is dealing with the affairs, against the advice of the locals! The introduction of the local characters and their suggestive but non-committal ways heightens the anticipation. I realise I am keeping my review quite vague but I really don’t want to give anything away and spoil it! I have seen a trailer for the film adaptation of which I can’t wait to see, however I think it is true to say that the book will remain the most chilling option. I read once that the mind can scare itself by a book more so than anything portrayed on screen, and in this case, I would definitely agree. Highly recommended if you look a good scare, I can’t wait to read the rest of Hill’s work. Andie P x
  24. I have just finished reading the book and I loved it! I saw a trailer for the film and thought the film deviated from the book quite a lot...I am no film maker but I suppose this is something that they need to do to keep the excitement and concentration of the watcher?? I don't know but I hope the film doesn't ruin it for me...will be watching it tonight and will let you know. Andie P x
  25. Just finished The Women in Black.....review to follow. Picked up 'Worlds beyond Words' at work which was donated to encourage reading. It's about people who have overcome problems and realise the power of reading. It's only a quick read so will soon have another review on it's way. Decided not to read 'Bag of Bones' by Stephen King, decided to listen to it on audio instead! I just don't have the time to fit them all in!! Andie P x
