  2. Half way through Apartment 16 and had to sleep with the light on! I am well impressed with Adam Neill's writing ability, he transforms me into a warped, weird world which is not only believable but creepy as hell! Needless to say I am now a huge fan! Andie P x
  3. I am fast becoming a huge fan of Adam. I have become a friend of his on Facebook and have chatted to him a few times, he is such a lovely and approachable man, he was in Birmingham signing Last Days on Saturday and I was so upset I couldn't go, I would have love to have met him. If you haven't already I would recommend becoming a friend of his because he is really interesting and very funny too! Andie P x
  4. Great review Ben and so glad you enjoyed it! Didn't I tell you it was a crime to have not read it! keep the reviews coming...my goodness you read quick! Andie P x

  7. Here is my review for Dangerous Waters: 'Mystery, loss and love on the Island of Guernsey' The protagonist Jeanne Le Page returns to the Island of Guernsey following the death of her Grandmother, this is a reluctant trip due to a personal tragedy that occurred fifteen years previous, however she is also escaping an unhappy life in England. The stay in Guernsey brings her flashbacks and nightmares of the tragedy but she also experiences new mystery's and tragedy's during her stay. Jeanne has inherited her Grandmothers cottage, which in itself brings more mystery and drama. Jeanne's initial plan to sell the cottage and return to England is disturbed by the influence of friends, romantic interests and the discovery and resolution of many mystery's, which all attract her to stay. This is a really atmospheric and descriptive piece of writing, I was transformed to the Island of Guernsey and could imagine every detail without much effort. As well as being a great fictional story I have learnt more about the Island, it's fascinating history and culture. It is an obviously well researched novel and with the touch of history relating to the German Occupation, it really brought the story to life. This is a great mystery novel, with plenty of intriguing sub-plots and suspense which kept me reading even when it was time to go to bed! I found myself guessing correctly what was happening but this didn't discourage me from enjoying the book because the suspense was enough to keep going to check I was right. This is an easy, enjoyable and intriguing read. Great for the Summer, sat in the sun and reading over a glass of wine! Highly recommended.
  8. I have seen that Amazon are selling it second hand, cheapest about £4. I am reading Apartment 16 by Adam Nevill, I found it hard to get into to be honest but now I am hooked. Andie P x
  9. Hi Tim, did you ever get to read anything by Adam Nevill and what do you think? Andie P x
  10. I don't think new guests can edit yet, I learnt that myself. I think you can do it after 50 posts. If not as Frankie said it will be on the right hand bottom of post! Andie P x
  11. For me, my favourite type of horror to read and write is supernatural. So, for a good old fashioned ghost story I would say The Women in Black by Susan Hill. Although The Shining by Stephen King is a great classic too. Andie P x
  12. So, I have finished my book club review book 'Dangerous Waters' and will work on the review today. I have picked up 'Apartment 16' up off my shelf and can't wait to start reading it. Isn't it a lovely feeling when you pick up a new book to read!! It's so exciting! Review for 'Dangerous Waters' by Anne Allen to follow.....watch this space! Andie P x
  13. Hi Patrick, welcome to the forum!! See you around! Andie P x

  17. Not if I can help it! Andie P x
  18. This really is an interesting story with lots of different angles. Although I must admit that the whole debate has made me think twice about my buying behaviours, I will try and buy more from second hand stores/ebay. I was driving around today and passed two second hand book shops I have never noticed before!! I will have to pop into them on pay day! Andie P x
  19. That's an interesting side of the story. I thought it would trigger some opinions, I am still sitting on the fence! Andie P x
  20. I have just been doing some research on the net and it appears that it is true, also it appears that play.com don't pay tax either as their head office is in Jersey. I have read (not sure how true it is) that a Japanese company are buying play.com. If they keep their head office in Jersey...that's interesting. Andie P x Frankie, where do you get your books from? Andie P x
  21. I'm not usually a fan of YA but this looks just up my street! Andie P x
  22. I came across this on Facebook, I have heard this before, apparently Amazon don't pay tax because their head office is in Jersey or somewhere. It's an interesting argument because Amazon do provide reasonably priced books, much cheaper than in a bookshop. What do all you lovely people think?
  23. I have done some more research and I know that some authors have killed her off in their versions, but it doesn't make sense to me. Am I being thick and missing something or have I picked up on something intriguing? Andie P x
  24. Finished The People Next Door and have moved onto Dangerous Waters by Anne Allen...I'm 6 chapters in and really enjoying it. Andie P x
  25. Hi Ben, I have just read 'A Scandal in Bohemia' and really enjoyed it. However, can you explain why she is referred to as 'late Irene Adler' at the beginning when there is no reference of her dying? Andie P x
