  1. It's funny, Kylie, but with Rand people either seem to really love her works or hate them with a passion. I've not met many people who are in the middle. It's also interesting how some can't seem to separate the author from the novels, which I admit I'm guilty of sometimes, but I think a person can appreciate Ayn's philosophy without subscribing to it. It's like being a fan of Frank Lloyd Wright - he was an arrogant and rude man but IMO, a brilliant architect. That was sort of a ramble, but I agree, it is too bad that so many dislike her. I had no idea they were considering a movie, Kylie, so I'll have to keep my eye out for it!
  2. I'll always turn to Mr. King's Shining for a creepy read, although that's more of a winter read since there's a blizzard going on practically the whole book! My other Halloween book would definitely be Amityville Horror. Deliciously scary!
  3. Welcome to BCF, Silver!
  4. Excellent choice, Pontalba!! I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts.
  5. Time is Running Out - Muse
  6. I ran into the local 1/2 Price Books today and came away with the following, for only $2.00 a piece! The Book of Air and Shadows by Michael Gruber The Host by Stephenie Meyer How to Buy a Love of Reading by Tanya Egan Gibson Cheap books, yay!
  7. I watched 'Funny People' last night and it was just okay. It had lots of funny bits in it with stand-up comedy, but the rest of the film dragged and was really quite sad. Meh
  8. Yeah, that's him! I knew he had three names. Oooh I had no idea he cut his hair - I'm going to have to check out the show again. I'm glad you agree with me, Kell , and darling is the perfect word to describe him!
  9. I second Hawkeye! His sense of humor alone sent me over the edge... Okay I'm not sure of this guy's name and I'm feeling a bit too lazy at the mo to look him up, but he's on a show here called Criminal Minds. He's a psychologist and has long hair. I don't know what it is, but sometimes I see him and I can't stop looking!
  10. Soul to Squeeze - Red Hot Chili Peppers
  11. I do this too! Well at least with the movie tickets. I think I have some going back to the 80's. I do keep cards too, but just the ones that are especially meaningful to me . Pickle, I hear ya on the massive conversation in your head. I do that a lot, especially when I'm trying to fall asleep at night! It relaxes me somehow.
  12. Yay! Booth and Bones need more converts . I know the TV show is nothing like the books, but I'm still looking forward to picturing David B in my head when I start reading! Well in all honesty, I don't really need a reason to picture him in my head...
  13. But you plan on watching, right? Are the books set in Montreal at all? If so I wouldn't be surprised if there was french spoken in them. I have 'Deja Dead' up on my shelf ready to be read next and I can't wait!
  14. Forgetting Sarah Marshall. I wish I could forget that I saw it!
  15. Woo, Black Keys! 1. I have never been stung by a bee. 2. I hate snow with a passion and am looking forward to one day moving to a warmer climate. 3. I had an albino hamster as a kid and his name was 'Skipper.' 4. I love politics and listen to political talk radio every day. 5. I've always dreamed of owning an Alexander Calder mobile.
  16. California Girls - Beach Boys
  17. Knights of Cydonia - Muse
  18. I've read Rand's Fountainhead (which I loved) but not Atlas Shrugged. It would be a refreshing debate, I agree. I know some people who can't have intellegent political discussions so I generally steer clear of that topic. I'd have a chat with you though over a cup of Starbucks coffee! I read a bit more of Tattoo last night and had such a hard time putting it down so I could go to bed. I'm hoping to at least get very close to finishing while I'm on vacation!
  19. Well said, Kylie, I feel the same about Brown's books. The same can also be said for me about Stephenie Meyer's books. I know she's not a brilliant writer but I still get sucked into her stories. Quite a few years ago I got about halfway through Stephen King's 'It' but couldn't finish it. For some reason I really didn't like the characters King had created and thought that even for him, he had gone too far with his odd-ness. Put me off King for a few years after that in fact...
  20. I've never been a true horror movie person, and can probably count on one hand the films I've seen in the theatre of that genre. I do love all forms of Hitchcock though! I'll watch his stuff every day of the week and twice on Sunday . I'll also watch the Amityville Horror during the day, and this excellent episode of 21 Jump Street which I think was called 'Ring of Fire.' Penhall and Hanson go to a Halloween dance where a school arsenist has struck!
  21. All of a sudden I have a two-track mind when it comes to music . I skip everything on my iPod except for the Dig and Muse. So, let's just say the first ten songs I listen to are by those artists!
  22. LOL Me too! I had pita chips with babaghanoush tonight. Oh and some cheese .
  23. Of course I approve of that, Stephanie!! TWW is one of the best shows ever! I saw Kicka*s! over the weekend and it was okay. I didn't think it was as great as some people said, and found it a little too overly-violent for my taste, but I still laughed a few times.
  24. I'm so glad you are still loving Atlas Shrugged, Kylie! I've had it on my wishlist for awhile, and am always on the lookout for a good used copy. I know what you mean about Rand's viewpoint on things and finding more ways it relates to the news. Her objectivist theory is definitely interesting and one to consider. I'm excited you want to read her stuff too, Frankie! If I could come down there and have intellectual political discussions with you guys, you know I would. Although I have a strange feeling we wouldn't agree on anything Frankie
  25. That's cool you get to essentially watch it twice a week, Stephanie! I know, Kylie . I'm so distressed! I keep hoping it's more of the same 'ruse' but *sniff* I don't know...
