Great suggestions, you guys! You have your work cut out for you, Ben . I'll add the following to your ever-growing list: 1. Mr. Smith Goes to Washington - Jimmy Stewart masterpiece 2. Snatch - Best Guy Richie film IMO 3. Grosse Pointe Blank - Hilarious John Cusack/Minnie Driver, dark-ish comedy 4. Waiting for Guffman - In my top 10 and one of the funniest movies out there 5. Lars and the Real Girl - A very sweet little film 6. Run Lola Run - German brilliance! 7. In Bruges - Great dark comedy with Colin Farrell (sp?) 8. The Spanish Prisoner - Wonderful little David Mamet film with Campbell Scott and Steve Martin 9. Winslow Boy - Love this one so much and you can't go wrong with Jeremy Northam and Nigel Hawthorne! 10. Stand By Me - Also in my top 10 and perfection from Rob Reiner (originally a Steven King short story) 11. Hedwig and the Angry Inch - Hilarious musical 12. Office Space - A very quoteable comedy 13. Bottle Rocket - Wes Anderson's first and best film (my #1 fave of all time) 14. Arsenic and Old Lace - Terrific old Cary Grant film! 15. The Secret of Roan Inish - A lovely Irish film surrounding the legend of the Selkies 16. Fantastic Mr. Fox - A Wes Anderson stop-motion film with George Clooney 17. The Fighter - IMO one of the top films of last year with Christian Bale and Mark Wahlberg 18. Get Low - The most overlooked film from 2010 which should've been Oscar's best picture last year 19. The Straight Story - True story with Richard Farnsworth and Sissy Spacek- Very touching! 20. The Sting - Classic Paul Newman and Robert Redford- you can't go wrong Just a couple of films that have already been mentioned which I think you REALLY need to see soon and often are Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Zodiac.

*Sigh* This thread reminds me that I have a lot of films left to see before the 26th! Better hop to it, I guess. I'd like to see Gary Oldman win best actor, but I'm sure it'll be the Artist actor who'll take it. Also, I'm not quite sure why Jonah Hill was nominated for supporting actor in Moneyball. It was a great movie and he did a fine job, but Oscar-worthy? Hmm...

Congrats, everyone! I bought the book Master Your Metabolism by Jillian Michaels and am finding it really interesting so far. This morning I did my weekly grocery shopping and am looking forward to trying new recipes and food combining which will hopefully shove my hormones/metabolism into high gear!

The movie was pretty bad, Pickle! Have you read the book? It was actually really creepy but of course they had to ruin it with the film. I saw Ides of March last night and unfortunately I was pretty disappointed. I really wanted to like it, but it just ended up being about what I already know, that being politics is an ugly business and crooked is the name of the game. Oh well!

I thought I better finally post in this thread since I, like many of you, are trying to shed some pounds. I've been concentrating it more in the new year though and figure that another source of support (ie you guys) is always a good thing! I'm in the process of changing my diet around. I'm already a healthy eater, it's just that I get minimal exercize except when I'm at my second job which hasn't been much lately. I try to eat as many fruits and vegies as I can, I don't drink soda and I'm getting in more qhole grains, chicken and fish. I started to think about a diet I did a few years ago which was very successful for me. It was more concentrated on combining certain foods which in turn speeds up metabolism. Has anyone tried to boost metabolism? I've read that ginger and fruit is a good combo, as well as spinach and fish, legumes and whole grains, etc. It's the vitamins and enzymes in these foods apparently that have a certain way of digesting which is the key. I don't know very much yet but I find it really interesting and am trying very hard to eat this way. Good luck, guys!

The Twilight Saga ~ Breaking Dawn~Part 1 Film Thread

Hey Chaliepud. It was just a quick scene of the heads of the Volturi finding out about Edward, Bella and all the "events" that had taken place in the film. They basically said they weren't going to let all of it go unnoticed. -
I saw Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy yesterday and it was excellent!! Such amazing work from all of the actors I also watched a documentary about Charles and Ray Eames, who were designers and pioneers of the Mid-Century Modern era in the US. I used to think that they were just furniture designers, but they were also architects, painters and film makers. I loved it and would definitely watch it again.

There are many films from 2011 that I still haven't seen but that I need to see before the Academy Awards - I'm so behind, ugh Amoung them would be Ides of March, Drive, Young Adult, Descendants, Hugo, The Artist and Midnight in Paris. Otherwise for 2012 I'm looking forward to: Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close The Hobbit (Confession: I only want to see this because of Aidan Turner ) And those lovely guilty pleasures: The Hunger Games Magic Mike Breaking Dawn Pt 2 I have to figure out what else is coming in 2012 that I'd like to see, so I'll probably come back and revise my list .

Hey guys! I'm sad to say I had to press pause on Jonathan Strange, but I'll pick it up again soon. I liked it but I don't really have enough time in my schedule lately to devote to it so I started a quicker, more character-driven book instead, The Assassani by Thomas Gifford. I'm loving it so far and is fitting in nicely with my funky reading habits these days.

The Twilight Saga ~ Breaking Dawn~Part 1 Film Thread

Don't hate me, Chesil, but I loved the wedding speeches! I thought they were funny and a nice way to lighten the mood, you know? Well at least Bella's since she was so incredibly nervous. Although I will say that Jessica's speech I could've done without - she seemed especially annoying to me. I loved the effects as well and thought they did an excellent job of making Bella look as if she was being drained of all life from the inside. I don't know how they did it but she looked awful! The only part my friend and I laughed at and wished they would've left out is the telepathic conversation the wolves had amongst themselves. For some reason we thought it just came off cheesy I don't know, just not good. I realize though that that sort of thing would be hard to translate from book to a visual thing up on screen. I liked how her body transformed at the end as well (oooh her eyes!) and can't wait to see part II! The part at the end of the credits was great. Seeing the Volturi is always exciting and that one guy (not JCB or Sheen) makes me laugh . -
Little House on the Prairie was a great TV show, Paun! Did you know they were books first? Laura Ingalls Wilder was born not far from where I live Last night I watched Amadeus.

I can't wait either, Weave!! Dan and Pat are just the best and I'm really looking forward to the new CD dropping next week. Does it come out for you guys in the UK too? Then hopefully I'll finally get to see them in concert!

Oh yeah! I forgot about the UNKLE song, that is a great one I also loved the track during the seduction montage. I can't remember now if it's the Noisette's song or the Features, but it's good. -

I liked that too, including songs from some of the other films. The newer and alternate version of Iron & Wine's 'Flightless Bird' is just beautiful. Do you guys have some favorite songs off the soundtracks? I loved both Radiohead songs, Weave, Hearing Damage especially and also 15 Step from the first movie. I also loved all of the Muse songs, and the Florence and the Machine track from the third movie was excellent. Oh and we can't forget the Black Keys 'Chop and Change!' As far as the BD soundtrack goes, I'd say my favorite track is 'I Didn't Mean It' with 'Turning Page' closely behind. But honestly I think I only skip maybe 2 songs tops. -
Listening to the radio right now and just got off the phone with the DJ. I told her how sad I was that I was stuck indoors because of the snow and that I wanted to hear some Bread. She's playing 'Dismal Day' for me right now and gave a shout out to me on air . I know, exciting, but it's the little things!

The Twilight Saga ~ Breaking Dawn~Part 1 Film Thread

Weave, Chesil and Hyzenthlay, have you seen the film again yet? Tonight would've been my last chance to see it but the blizzard raging outside stopped me. I'll have to shoot for next weekend. I'm looking forward to catching things I didn't notice the first time. I was talking to a friend of mine who works at a local public radio alternative music station, having a discussion about the soundtrack to Breaking Dawn and all of the other films. There are a lot of bands on them that I would never have discovered had it not been for their inclusion on the soundtracks and I think they worked really well. They match the pace of the movie (most of the time), and I like that there are a lot of little-known bands that have gotten some exposure. None of the Twi movies are award-winning, and thank goodness because I'd be pretty worried about the Academy if they had been nominated . -
I watched Shaun of the Dead last night after I returned home from work. Never get tired of it <3 Simon Pegg

Brian, my brother does the same job as you and has for many years. He loves it I work full time as an accountant for a large travel company. The company also has a hotel and restaraunt division and until a couple of years ago also a marketing side, which is where I worked for about 8 years. I've been in the travel dept for 4 years and I really like it. Even though I'm an accountant I still get travel discounts which my fave part of working there I also have a part time job at a retail chain where I work some nights and weekends. I got the second job so I could save more money and be completely debt free, which I'll be in 2 years. Yahoo! Then I'll get to do much more traveling, so some of you may see me on your doorstep soon!

The Twilight Saga ~ Breaking Dawn~Part 1 Film Thread

I don't know if I was so excited to be there or too engrossed in finally seeing the film after a year of waiting, Chesil, but I didn't even notice the score. I heard the songs from the soundtrack because I'd been listening to it the few days before I saw the film, but other than that I didn't hear it . I loved the movie, save for a few parts that I thought were very cheesy. It won't win any awards but I thought they captured the book just right and it DID feel different than the other films. I think that was one of the reasons why I liked it so much. Plus I liked the pace - I liked all the parts of the wedding and honeymoon (duh!) before all the drama. It's funny because I was talking to a co-worker and she thought it was too slow, so it just shows you how tastes differ between people. Hopefully I'll see it again soon . -
Vinta crackers, hummus, Boursin and some yummy kalamata olives! Mmm I love lunch

I'm another one who hasn't had cable TV or satellite for at least a year now and I really only miss it when I want to see sports that they don't show on the regular channels (like hockey and baseball). Otherwise I get much more use out of the internet because I watch quite a bit of stuff via Netflix through my Wii or I'll pop in a DVD from time to time.
