  1. This book is on my TBR list, it's good that you enjoyed this. What did you think of 'Room' by Emma Donoghue? I read this novel and loved it.
  2. I agree that 'Blade Runner' will be one of those films that will be debated about for years to come. There will be those who hate it and those that love it. In defense of 'Blade Runner' I think that anything, whether it be a film or a book, that sparks up a debate, is a good thing. For me however, I just don't see the appeal of this film at all.
  3. I had to watch this as part of a film studies modules at uni and I didn't (and still don't) understand why it has received such a cult following.
  4. I would choose this too and 'Blade Runner'.
  5. Publisher: FeedBooks Length: 154 Pages Opening Line: 'Mr Sherlock Holmes, who was usually very late in the mornings, save upon those not infrequent occasions when he was up all night, was seated at the breakfast table.' What's good about this novel? This is the second novel I have read within 'The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Book Challenge' . From the beginning, I knew that I was going to enjoy it. 'The Hound of the Baskervilles' is very well written and draws the reader in from the start. Even though this isn't the first novel in the series of 'Sherlock Holmes' books, Arthur Conan Doyle makes it possible for the reader to understand what is going on and who the characters of Dr Watson and Sherlock Holmes are, without reading the novels in a sequence. I also really like the humour within this novel, the writing in general has a lot of charm. The story is complex, but I even though there are many twists and turns within the plot, I felt that for the most part, I could still follow what was going on. Saying that, I didn't predict what was going to happen in the end, which I would have found disappointing. What's wrong with this novel? To be honest, I can't really find many negatives about this book. Being a fan of the tv series 'Sherlock', I could see how fans of this could find the novel of 'The Hound of the Baskervilles' disappointing. This is because the story between the two versions are quite different. However, I found that both were equally as enjoyable. They both had their own identity, whilst still containing the essence of the plot and characters from within. Is this worth a read? Yes I think this is worth a read. 'The Hound of the Baskervilles' is a light and entertaining read. I look forward to reading more 'Sherlock Holmes' novels in the future.
  6. Not sure if this has been asked yet, but as anyone read 'The Hunger Games? Can adults enjoy this as much as children? After seeing the trailer for the up coming film, I'm debating whether to read the books.
  7. Having seen the modern take of 'The Hound of the Baskervilles' first and then the novel, I think that the two versions are very different. Usually when films/programmes change elements from an original text, it really annoys me. However, I really enjoyed both the programme and the book. The tv version was able to capture the essence of the story, but also bring something new. 'The Hound of the Baskervilles' is the first of the Sherlock Holmes novels I have read and I'm looking forward to reading the rest.
  8. I'm on page 96 of Barbara Erskine's novel 'Time's Legacy'. So far, I have the feeling that the writer of this novel is trying to write 2 (almost 3) novels worth of plot into one. Whilst I am enjoying each separate theme within the book, I don't think all of them gel together. I will keep reading to see how this pans out.
  9. I saw 'Journey 2: The Mysterious Island' at the cinema last night. I'm not a fan of the Rock, but I enjoyed this film. Some of it was very far fetched, but in general I thought it was fun.
