  1. Welcome I know how you feel. The reason I found this forum was to share my thoughts about books and I am forever in real life talking non stop about a book that I have just read and they normally start looking interested and then I can see their eyes glazing over and just generally looking bored.
  2. Oh yes I would recommend this one too - not at all what I thought it was going to be and so sweet too.
  3. Frankie got it from another forum details are in her booklist I would post a link but I don't know how
  4. I read the Runaway a few years ago and enjoyed it and read some of her others but found some of the content got a bit samey and then "The Jump" kept me awake at nights so I stopped reading her books - which was a shame as I thought they were well written just not my thing. I really enjoyed Noughts and Crosses too and you have just reminded me that I did start the second in the series and never finished it I must get back to that.
  5. Welcome Simply K I look forward to seeing your reading list.
  6. Reviews Life and Laughing - Michael McIntyre 9/10 Brilliant book if you are a fan of MM (if not you probably wont like it). I have to say I did question alot of this as to whether it really happened or not as some of his stories were a little to convenient but then I decided that it was so entertaining I didn't care. I am not really a laugh out loud kind of person but I certainly did chuckle when reading this book espeically when his writting gets a little sidetracked. Notes to My Mother in Law - Phyllida Law 6/10 Phyllida is actually Emma Thompson's mother. This book is literally notes to her mother in law. Phyllida's m-I-l moved in with Phyllida and her family and was a little deaf and missed out on what was being said to her throughout the day so Phyllida would make notes at the end of the day to keep her up to speed. Its not an overly entertaining book but some of its quite funny and like have a one sided conversation with someone. Parts of it were quite endearing and it reminded me a lot of my own mother and a woman that she looks after so I lent her the book to read when I was finished with it and she enjoyed it too. Foursome - Jane Fallon 5/10 Although I loved "Getting Rid of Matthew" and enjoyed "Got You Back" by the same author I have to say I wasn't quite so impressed with this one to the point I had forgotten I had read it until I got my book journal out to start this thread. It wasn't terrible it just didn't leave any lasting impressions. The Little Strange - Sarah Waters 6/10 This is a large book but having read most of her other books I was expecting to sail through reading this. I didn't. Overall it was a good story but I felt the middle third of the book just didn't move anywhere it was going over the same ground and not achieving anything. I think it was supposed to be building the air of mystery but I just got bored. In some ways I which I was the kind of person who could just skip a few pages here and there but I can't. It was a good book but in my opinion could have been told quicker or have more content. I am glad you enjoyed reading it too. For me its one of those books where I think if it wasn't quite so long I would re-read it all the time. I also enjoyed finding out about a different culture which is not something I often do with my reading.
  7. Day 01 – Best book you read last year Memoirs of a Geisha - Arthur Golden I had been meaning to read this one for years but have to confess that the size of it put me off. I then had a swap request on a book swapping site and the other person had this on their list so I agreed the swap and started reading it as soon as it arrived. I was drawn into the life of this little girl instantly and couldn't put it down. I did find the book started to lose its appeal towards the end but that was when war and politics crept in which is a surefire way to put me off a book but in this case it wasn't enough to put me off the book and I am pretty sure if I was to make a list of my top 50 favourite books then this one would definitely be on there. It has been recommended to me to read a book that was written by the Geisha that Arthur Golden took his insipiration from and I hope to read that soon.
  8. Well depends what books you are into but I would recommend the Chris Evans - Its Not What You Think. I only read it as it was given to me as an christmas present I would never have picked it up for myself never been a huge fan of Mr Evans and thought they whole book would be full of how superfantastic he is but its not at all. Its very well worded, he doesn't "big up himself" he is considerate when talking about other people he has met on the way. He comes across as some who just lives life which I found very freshing, thats why I have started the follow up.

  10. Waterstones is my favourite place to buy 3 4 2 books I didn't even know I wanted. And I like to read the member of staff book reviews they have on the shelves.
  11. An excellent book I couldn't put it down not even the creepy bits at the beginning
  12. Where did this list originate from ? Is it ok if I use it too ? I have enjoyed reading your reviews and now plan to find a copy of Forrest Gump (I didn't know it was a book ) and I am now a little bit closer to re-reading To Kill a Mockingbird I read it years ago and disliked it and people are always telling me I need to re-read it and everytime I see a review of it I think yes I really should.
  13. Thank you - thats exactly what I wanted to hear
  14. after finishing a book last night I decided to treat myself with starting a new one and I picked up "The Eyre Affair" I only read the first 4 pages and I am a little confused already please tell me it doesn't take long to get into the swing of reading it. For some reason I had decided Thursday Next was a man which didn't help
  15. Me too. I would love to know what he actually looks like and also I would like to go back in time to get a proper feel for the surroundings and experience the everyday life of the time. But I would like to come back to "today" by nightfall I am not sure I could cope without electricity and being greedy I would also like to be Hermione from HP, so wise for someone so young and confident too.

  17. Last night I went to turn mine completely off due to reading this thread to find that my battery had worn down and that has been on stand by (I don't think it was on wifi as I am not wireless)so I think that lasted 3 months which I am sure I read somewhere was the expectance of the charging.
  18. Thanks Pixie I know how to reboot as I had to do that about half an hour after I got it (I was turning pages to quickly in the excitement)but didn't think that that was turning it off too
  19. How do you turn it off completely then ? I have just been flicking the switch at the bottom.
  20. I got given this for Christmas but wasn't acutally that interested but thought seeing as how I have got it I may as well read it and I am glad I did. I really enjoyed the writing style and the general "feel good" nature of the book even when writing about lower moments or when talking about people he probably didn't like that much he handled them with sensitivity and was generally very positive about everything. In his writing Chris isn't at all self absorbed as I was expecting him to be. Looking forward to reading the second instalment. 9/10
  21. How weird I have hit a reading slump too and have decided to re-read Harry Potter . I have read all 7 of them read the first 4 leading up to the 5th and then read the rest when first released and have always wanted to re-read them as there is so much content in them its easy to forget bits but I always think that re-reading a book prevents you from reading another for the first time but now I am starting to think more and more I would like to read various books and am starting to think about doing a re-read list. Anyway last week I started re-reading HP and the Chamber of Secrets (waiting for me copy of HP & the P Stone to be returned)and then I finsihed it in time to watch the film last weekend, I much prefer the book and I have to say the synic in me started to think that JK was influenced by the films when writing the last two books as I think she got carried away with the fights/battles at the end
  22. I like this one too I can see my nephew doing exactly the same thing. Although he is actaully Spiderman at the moment he tried showing me his flying the otherday jumping off my settee and landing on his face . He was fine afterwards btw.
  23. I like your positive thinking. Unfortunately I can't help think Jeward are just the sort of thing that Eurovision would love and will probably do better than Blue even though Blue can actually sing. Is there some significance to Jedwards shoulder decorations ? I can't believe how much you know about it all Kell it I can barely remember who was on the act before whenever I watch
  24. Thats an excellent idea I think you should contact someone in charge (Kell will probably know who)and suggest it.
  25. Welcome CJ Will this be your first book that you are writing ?
