  1. Thanks, Athena. So far this year, I have read 50 books, but I have purchased 55. That's not the way it's supposed to go!
  2. Season 4 starts soon.....for those in the UK it's next Sunday I think!
  3. Sounds like a really interesting challenge. Maybe you will find authors or genres that you never knew you liked.
  4. I'm behind on reviews again, so will need to spend some time catching up. Over the last couple of days I bought: The Complete Wizard of Oz Collection - L Frank Baum Ellie Quinn: Episode 1 - Alex Scarrow Not A Drop to Drink - Mindy McGinnis Updated reading plan: The Ocean At The End of the Lane - Neil Gaiman I Am Pilgrim - Terry Jones Mr Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore - Robin Sloan Blubber - Judy Blume Deenie - Judy Blume Forever - Judy Blume Capital - John Lanchester The Crow Road - Iain Banks Weird Things Customers Say in Bookshops - Jen Campbell I think I will read Blubber next, as that is a pretty short read. Not sure after that - I'll see what I feel like.
  5. Ok - I finished is last night and I'm confused about the ending. I have to say, I really enjoyed it. I loved the different perspectives of the story, and that you never really know the full story until the ending
  6. I do love the covers of children's books (especially those first two listed). I didn't know We Were Liars was a children's book. I recognised the cover straight away as I have seen it on Amazon (maybe on one of their deals pages). Sounds interesting, so I've added it to my wishlist.
  7. I'm starting to see that. I chuckled when Ig ate some devilled eggs and said that they were 666 times nicer than the boiled ones he was going to make. I've noticed some similarities in their writing style, but I do wonder if I would still say that if I didn't know they were father and son. I'm about 70% through it and enjoying it. I like how the story swaps between timelines, so you can see what happened with Ig and Merrin in the past and how it relates to what is happening now. I haven't been scared yet, although . I should be finished with it this weekend.
  8. I'm about 70% through Horns. I've got a cold though, so when I read, I tend to fall asleep.
  9. It's pretty miserable here at the moment, with lots of rain. I was planning a walk on the moors, but I think we might go closer to home (besides I have a cold, so could use an excuse to stay in).
  10. I like this motto. I also find watching and reading the current news can help put things in perspective as well.
  11. Awww, that's lovely. Bet that lioness was heavy though!
  12. ^ I know what you mean. I'm studying at the moment, and as exam time comes, I can't do anything but study or think/stress about studying.
  13. I said I could commit to 40 minutes a day, and apparently I could read the entire collection in 150 days. My reading speed is 300 words per minute. Not sure about that....I don't consider myself a fast reader, and some books I really struggle with (and Games of Thrones series would be one of those ).
  14. Oh yes! Totally forgot about Room 101.
  15. Hmm, I'm not sure if I have a preference either. I really liked the vampires in Interview with A Vampire by Anne Rice, but think this recent trend of romanticising them (ie. Twilight series, A Discovery of Witches) is just silly. I haven't read much on werewolves or ghosts, and zombies have always been associated with post-apocalyptic settings. For the scariest, I'd say 'ghosts' ('ghost' movies for me are terrifying) or 'horrific human beings', but for entertainment value I would go with zombies.
  16. Awww, such sweet puppies! I remember reading Oryx and Crake but getting so confused by it (not sure why, though), so I don't think I read The Year of the Flood. I really enjoyed most other Atwood I have read, so I must give this series a go again.
  17. Hey there, welcome back! Haven't seen you around in while.
  18. Nice car! Hope you enjoy it! Bet it smells nice too.

      Are you feeling any better?

  20. I completely understand that. Games can be so atmospheric and creepy these days. Try playing a scary game in a darkened room with headphones.....
  21. I can't remember exactly, but I think it was when I was in my mid-teens, as I remember borrowing Richard Laymon and Dean Koontz books from the library when I still lived at home. Wish I could remember my first Stephen King book, but I can't.
  22. I think he went through a wobbly patch as there are some books around the same timeframe that I just haven't been able to get into. Oh yeah, I keep meaning to read Doctor Sleep! Full Dark, No Stars was good.....very dark and disturbing. They are making Big Driver into a TV movie this year. What about Lisey's Story? Has anyone read that? For some reason I'm reluctant to pick it up but I don't know why.
  23. I've read A Kiss Before Dying and The Stepford Wives, but I don't know if I would classify them as horror. Rosemary's Baby is horror (or so I'm assuming, because I haven't actually read the book or seen the movie, though I know the basic plot), and I'm pretty sure I have it on my TBR pile. I've read Swan Song, and enjoyed it but I kept comparing it to The Stand (and it is so similar in terms of plot). I have Carrion Comfort on my TBR pile, and I've heard of The Terror. I may give the former a read this month. Yeah, they do. They are quite short books as well, with not much empty filler.
  24. I think I just have books, as well.
