Maybe it is just a fat lump or a cyst of some kind? If it's been there for over a year, then it just may be one of those harmless doggy lumps that they get when they are older. I enjoyed Gone With The Wind a lot. I've never seen the film so I don't know how it compares, but the book was so so good.

Which one would you recommend next? Station Eleven is the only one I've read.

The Suspicions of Mr Whicher is today's Kindle Deal. I was going to buy it, but in all honesty I'm a bit fed up of Victorian detective novels.

I don't tend to have time to create questions, and I can relate to what you say about forgetting the content of a book. My problem is that I jump straight from one book to another, and when finished I rarely spend time thinking about what I have just read (unless it's exceptional). I think if I did that, then I would be more likely to remember what the book was about.

I didn't realise you'd read Station Eleven. I absolutely loved it...one of the best books I have read in recent years.

Don't worry...you've got the rest of the year to catch up. I haven't read it, but I intend to read it very soon. But like Janet, I have no idea what it's about or if it's even my kind of book. I would definitely be up for that. It's a great idea seeing as so many people are talking about reading it, or having it on their TBR pile. Ditto! I've read a bit more of The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay. I'm now getting the hang of it and that some of the chapters are set within the comic book story (it confused me the first time.....I thought 'Who are these people who have suddenly appeared in the story? What have I missed?' ). My reading always slows down a bit during work days as I'm so tired after work, but I will make a concerted effort to read more of it tonight.

I had that experience with Gone With The Wind too. I was expecting a tepid romance but was really blown away by the story and by Scarlett O'Hara (she wasn't the nicest person, but she was worthy of admiration). Oh man, now that you mentioned it, I do remember that. Yeah, that was freaky!! I think it was the main female character who had that experience. Ugh - hopefully it's nothing. I hate being sick.

Roast turkey dinner. Tasty!

I think the reason I have never clicked on the referral link is that Amazon.co.uk is one of the tabs that I always have open (when I start my browser, it's automatically there) because I'm always on it. Same with Facebook....I never have to open it, because it's the first tab in my browser.

I don't like abandoning books, but sometimes you just have to. My criteria is when I just cannot force myself to read anymore. I have read many books that I didn't like but I still managed to get through them. But there are some very special ones that all the will in the world just cannot make me read any more. I recognise the cover of Everything I Never Told You....not sure if someone else on here has read it, or maybe it's been heavily promoted on Amazon. But I think if you feel that strongly, then just abandon it. There are way too many good books waiting to be read to waste time on something you aren't enjoying. Or, you could just tell yourself you are putting it to one side, to be continued with later.

I really enjoyed these two from your TBR pile. Let the Right One In by John Ajvide Lindqvist The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton Hope you have a great reading year, Janet!

Thanks, that makes sense! I was too lazy to check my own Book Logs.

Don't give me ideas like that! Rather than one room at a time, her method is to clean up by category (regardless of how many locations they are all in). She suggests starting with clothing, so if you have clothes in many different places, she says to gather them all up, put them in one pile and go through them one by one (thanking each one as you touch it - I skipped that part. ). Then the next thing to tackle is (I think) paperwork, then books, and then other random bits. So far I've done clothes and paperwork, but we are also hoping to move house this year and will do a major tidy up then. For now I'm happy to have just done the clothes and the paperwork, as I was drowning in both.

A Short History Of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson
bobblybear replied to Dan_R's topic in Non Fiction
For me it is, 100%. However, because of it's size it's a bit more awkward to read - ie. you would probably struggle to read it in bed. Here are a couple of pictures of the illustrations I've taken - they're just gorgeous! -
The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay is going well. And today I bought The Sixth Extinction: An Unnatural History by Elizabeth Kolbert. My Kindle TBR pile is rapidly approaching 300 (in fact, this purchase may have pushed it over).

Sorry to hear about Jojo. It's difficult when they have an injury - they still want to run around and play anyway! Hopefully time will heal it....I don't know if I've ever seen a dog doing agility slowly! 13 is a very good age. Our previous dog was 13 - unfortunately he had cancer, but aside from the signs of that (which were very sudden) he seemed fit as anything (though he was deaf, the poor thing) and still loved his twice daily walk. They still love their walks, at any age I think. Oh, I so hope you read it this year. I'd love to be able to experience it all for the first time.

^ Oh, I love Jason Bateman. He's great in Horrible Bosses.

I've just now finished Season 5 and started Season 6. Funny you say that, because I noticed that a few episodes ago, when she was wearing jeans and a tight top. I think it's child-bearing hips....she's still very skinny everywhere else. Yeah, my husand is moaning that I'm GG obsessed. I can't believe I only have 2 series to go, though. Where has the time gone? I know there are still many, many things that will happen in S6 and S7, and I suppose I still have A Year In The Life to watch, but it just seems to be ending so soon. I'm dying to know who Rory ends up with (if anyone) - that's one spoiler I haven't read up on, and I'm not going to. I have to say, I'm not a big fan of Logan....he's always got that smug smile on his face. Needs a bit of a slap, that one. I've recently watched the ep where Oh, I also think Kirk is hilarious.....how many jobs has he had in Stars Hollow? I think he's worked everywhere.

I've just had my breakfast: a hash brown, grilled tomato, scrambled eggs and a piece of toast smothered in butter. Soooo yummy!

I'm sure I've read Broadmoor Revealed, but according to Amazon I haven't purchased it. I definitely read a book on Broadmoor a couple of years ago. I can't remember a lot about it but I know it was fascinating at the time.

Thanks, chaliepud! Reuben is perfect. Hope your doggies are well! Oh, I can't wait until you read The Stand. It's a long book but it hooks you in from page one!
-
You have a some great books on your list. A few favourites of mine: King, Stephen – The Stand Mackintosh, Clare – I Let You Go Mitchell, Margaret – Gone with the Wind and anything by Diane Chamberlain. Happy reading in 2017.

For me, it's always Amazon. I mostly read Kindle books so that's to be expected.

Sorry, I picked The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay! However, Middlesex will probably be after that. The Amazing Adventures... is good so far.
