    Hello

Hey Jess, welcome to the mad house .
  2. I've added the following 3 to my list of to buy books Naseem Rakha - The Crying Tree Jo Nesbo - The Snowman Rosamund Lupton - Sister
  3. I usually find myself reading books written in 3rd person, I won't refuse to read a book in 1st person but I wouldn't say it was a preference of mine either. I just remember when I was a lot younger reading books that irritated the hell out of me with the whole 'I said', 'she said' malarkey, and I think it swayed my opinion. However the book I read at the weekend The Weight of Silence (Heather Gudenkauf) I did very much enjoy. Each chapter was in 1st person of a specific character. So at one moment I would be reading the thoughts & feelings of young Calli & the next it would be Sheriff Louis. I think it added depth & a better understanding to the characters. It also means I may be more tempted in the future to give books written in the 1st person more of a chance.
  4. If I enjoy the first couple of books I tend to keep reading. I do usually mix up my reading though so I don't tend to read more than 2-3 books of one series before grabbing a different book or another series. That way I get to read a big bulk of what's going on but after the 'rest period' I can come back to the story with fresh eyes! Plus it gives me a chance to see how much of my brain acted like a sieve & check how much I have forgotten or retained lol .
  5. I've seen these while I've been book browsing but with so many vampire based books out there at the moment I couldn't make my mind up. I think I'll keep my eye on them & if I see them at a bargain price I'll snap them up. Until then lol.

    Scotland

Unfortunately I've never been to Scotland myself, but I would like to wish you all the best on your move x
  7. You know it's not something I've ever considered trying, but now I am quite intrigued to see how difficult it would be. I might have to give it a go .
  8. My current background:
  9. Book of Souls; Glenn Cooper = finished. The Weight of Silence; Heather Gudenkauf = finished. What book next .. dum dum dummmm!

  10. I've never tried any of James Ellroy's books, but from your description Karsa they sound like something I would enjoy. *Adds them to the 'To Buy' list*
  11. I ordered my copy of the book the other day . Once things calm down at work & I have more time on my hands I can't wait to read it!
  12. I'm as busy as a don't know what, but hopefully in approx 3 weeks things will start to calm down again! I've been working anywhere up to 15 hours a day so I've not had much chance to pop on. Hopefully I'll start catching up on all the lovely posts I've been missing soon!

  13. Still working like crazy! I will get my rear back on here asap!

  14. I don't have an ipad/iphone etc myself but I do sometimes stumble by things that do give me the urge to splurge on one or the other . Dingbats - it's like a catchphrase game ... say what you see Mac Dice - not sure if it's something anyone on here would use, but you never know. It's a nice dice roller that allows multiple dice, dice sizes to be rolled d 4 6 8 10 12 20 & up to 100 dice can be rolled at once. In the recent version you can pin certain dice, so if you need to keep anything over 4 you tap them & then roll the rest. Useful for anyone who roleplays, plays tabletop games such as Warhammer etc. PingChat - a messaging app that lets you bump/push messages from iphone to iphone. I think you can even have multiple people in a conversation but I'm not 100% sure. Bento - Personal & business organiser. Address book, event planner, projects, to do lists etc Plants vs Zombies - fab game. I have it on PC & would recommend it. You have to fight of waves of Zombies using plants ... sounds odd, but it's addictive & fun!
  15. Has been up 21hours .. & has to get back up in 4hrs for another 13hr shift. *runs off to bed* Night/Morning all x

  16. I will admit I've yet to try any self published work but I am open to giving it a go. I'm always willing to give newly published authors a try & if some standard/rating could be indicated then I would have no problems trying some self published authors also. As someone has already said, with books like many things it can often be hit or miss with a novel anyway. In general when I do look to trying out new authors I do tend to read reviews to have a look see what other have thought about it, however just because 10 out of 20 people found it awful doen't mean I will take it as I'll hate it too, but I may be more weary or try to find out if anyone I know has had chance to read it yet.

    Hello :)

Welcome to the mad house .. I mean book forum .
  18. Only had an hour sleep :( 9hr shift nearly done though :D

  19. Aww ty , it's from Tom Lewis's 2009 painting "The Legend of Kokucho Meadow" which I have as my desktop background at the moment. If only I owned the original piece!
  20. Tired but unable to sleep!

  21. I have a few hardbacks here & there. I tend to take the dust jacket off whilst I'm reading & then pop it back on. For some of my paperbacks I buy book protectors (mainly for the books I plan to take away for the weekend & what not).
  22. Next movie's I want to try & watch are: The Expendables Salt Green Lantern - No doubt it will have been ruined, or it will be used to plug a film for the Justice League. I will give it a chance though lol The A-Team - I'll wait for it to come onto TV, from the trailers it doesn't look worth the cost of a cinema ticket Tron - I can't decide if I will go watch this at the cinema or not, I do have a gut feeling the film will turn out to be utter tripe though I was shocked to see an new Piranha's film on the way. It really does seem that most of the films coming out these days are either sequels or rehashes of old material spiced up with the modern day technical know how. Shame quite often the originals or the original concept is much better . I'm still feeling gleeful though about Inception, roll on the dvd release date so I can watch it a few more times .
  23. I loved Inception & as soon as it becomes available for pre-order, I'll do just that . I had heard that it got very confusing after the first half of the film, I didn't seem to have trouble following it but I think it will likely vary person to person. I know for a fact my mum for instance would be lost pretty early on . My dad also enjoyed it, but he was getting really fed up with some kids throwing popcorn & 2 young girls next to us kept playing with their blooming phones .. thankfully they left around half way through! For those hoping to see it soon, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did .
