It seems we look for very similar qualities in a novel, Bookjumper. Solid characters is my number one priority as well, but I do also adore poetic language and prefer philosophical themes that keep my mind active. I hope you don't mind if I do a little research on these forums to see what some of your favorites are.

You are welcome. I am sorry the Swedish translation you are reading is so horrible. It really is a wonderful series with characters that you never want to leave.

Lots of times, which is why I make a point now of thinking about a book after I read it and often discussing it with someone else (usually my boyfriend). -
Then I would have all the time I needed to read and all the space to store my books. What if eternity ends?

There is really a proper order to read this series in, and if you don't, some things will not make much sense and pleasant surprises could be ruined for you. First trilogy: Assassin's Apprentice Royal Assassin Assassin's Quest Second trilogy: Ship of Magic Mad Ship Ship of Destiny Third Trilogy: Fool's End Golden Fool Fool's Fate Then there are the last two books about the Rain Wilds, which I haven't read yet. I am waiting for them to be released in paperback.

Oh, if I could choose my career! That's easy. Writing. Unfortunately, I don't have the discipline. Perhaps for short stories, but there isn't much of a market for them.
I may vent some day, but for now I don't have the time because I must be off to work soon. I do have tomorrow off again, though.

I have to admit, it was a relief to know I would be writing a positive review when I knew you would be reading my thoughts. However, if I didn't enjoy a novel, I would be just as thoughtful in my approach. If I don't like a book, I want to know why. As readers, I think we can learn a lot about ourselves by examining our reactions to the books we read.

Don't feel any pressure to respond. Respond only and if you want to. I am really understanding that way. It's one of the blessings of social anxiety. Wow! Oddly enough, years ago I had thought about becoming a nun. Not really that seriously, though. Anyway, yes, I can relate to changing as a person and sometimes, unfortunately, that means you can't always hold on to the friends you thought you had. Such is life.
I'm okay, I guess. I would just rather be anywhere else than work. I am not sure if this is because of my social anxiety or just wanting to do the things I enjoy without feeling pressured.

Thank you, Chrissy! Actually, I have Star Gazing and A Life Time Burning is soon to be delivered as well. Although, when I will get to them I have no idea. And yes, buy it, read it, please. This is a book that breathes and aches with life.

I just finished We'll Always Have Paris by Ray Bradbury. It wasn't very long and typical of his style which I enjoy immensely. I will be starting Intensity by Dean Koontz soon.

I had to put down Cloud Atlas for now for a very odd reason. I was finding it very interesting! I just started Ray Bradbury's latest book of short stories We Will Always Have Paris. He is one of those writers I just slip write into.

I know there may be some people that will finish a book no matter how painful it is (and that is their prerogative), but I was wondering about the reasons readers may have for giving up on a book. Is there something in particular that you look for and if it isn't there that is when you abandon the story? If so, what is it? How soon should this particular something appear? I ask this because I sometimes give up on books, but I will usually at least give the first 100 pages a try. But I don't always know myself what it is that makes me put it down. So I would like to hear other people's thoughts.

They are absolutely lovely and I want one, but I don't know, I think I may be too lazy to make them, as I would want more than very plain.

This a very simple game that lets your imagination run wild. The first person asks a "What if...?" question about anything they want. The next person answers the question however they like. It can be seriously, or the answer could be way out there if you like. The possibilities are limitless. :mrgreen:Then the one that answered asks their own "What if...?" question for the next person. Here we go! What if I don't exist?
