  1. I'm still reading Cloud Atlas but i'm not enjoying the second half of the book as much as i did the first but i shall persevere to the end. I also bought a few books today: Master & Commander Patrick O'Brien The Corrections Jonathan Franzen Credo Melvyn Bragg Kim Rudyard Kipling
  2. That made me laugh ( Do you mean at the same time Frankie ? )
  3. Hi Cumberbabe , lots of good books on your list . I'm reading Cloud Atlas at the moment so look forward to hearing your thoughts on it when you get round to reading it

  10. I've a few of his books on my wishlist but not that one Claire so thanks i'll add it to the list That's my plan as well Janet I have The Harpole Report on my wishlist & i'd be interested to read his biography as well so thanks for that. I see your a Radio 4 listener so you might be interested to know that Pure by Andrew Miller was this months Bookclub choice i listened to it this morning on iplayer. I didn't like the book myself but even so the discussion about it was interesting & i remember that you enjoyed the book. Your very welcome Devi
  11. Well done sticking to your reading plan your much more disciplined than i am. I'll decide what my next book is going to be then change my mind when i read someones review on here
  12. I remember it was your book choice in the A book you wish more people had read category, so out of interest i got a secondhand copy. I passed it on to my sister who also enjoyed it & doubt she'll pass it on to someone else. Who knows where it will end The Ruins Of Time Ben Woolfenden & A Month In The Country J.L.Carr both good reads Devi but in my opinion the J.L. Carr is an outstanding book it's beautifully written & one of the few books i haven't passed on to friends as i know i'll read it again
  13. In the front room we have Billy bookcases from Ikea, when i filled them i started an overflow pile up the side of the bookcase which had to be moved & put in a big plastic box which i've jammed under a side table. I've also got boxes of books under mine & the children's beds & have now got a pile of books stacked on the speaker at the side of the sofa where i sit Ideally i would like a summerhouse at the end of the garden with book lined shelves which i could escape to & read my books in peace. Bit of a lottery dream really
  14. The Beach was a great read & it's the sort of book i'd recommend to anyone whatever their reading tastes Schmaltzy means overly sentimental i think it's a Yiddish word. Apparently they made a film out of the book with Zac Efron as Charlie St Cloud so obviously lots of people thought differently from me You definitely need to beg, borrow or steal a copy of The Power of One it was a great read. I have a few of his other books The Potato Factory & Whitethorn as well which i'm looking forward to reading there both doorstoppers though so i have to be in the right mood for starting a long read. Thanks I was really pleased with my new books & have them piled up next to my side of the sofa, mainly because i don't have anywhere else to put them at the moment, but at least that means they wont disappear into a box & get forgotten about. I'm a bit more choosey about what books i buy now when i go an a trawl of the charity shops as i'm so short on storage space & also i have already got a lot of the books already
  15. Sounds like a great read Steve i shall look out for Master & Commander as i'm guessing you have to read that first. Have you read any Hornblower ? My sister's read the whole series & loved it & so I have the first 3 books on my TBR pile
  16. I did enjoy A Month In The Country & The Ruins of Time so are tastes can't be that different Well you've sold Bleak House to me- Great Expectations i read at school for my O level & i've watched it quite a few times so don't plan on re reading it anytime soon. Thanks for the info

  20. Lovely!!! The Sense & Sensibility one is my favourite
  21. Not at all frankie i know what you mean though it seems to be one of those books that people i either love or hate. It's different stories which i guess will all tie together at the end of the book so it chops & changes quite a bit which could put some people off but i'm enjoying it so far
  22. Anyone read any Anne Tyler ? Waterstones had a display of her books the other day & then i spotted one in a charity shop Digging To America & bought it. Just wondered what other people thought of her.
