  1. Actually, it was called The Thing From Another World, not to be confused with It: The Terror from Beyond Space, of which Alien is effectively a remake. Ooh! - now there's a remake that was better than the original! And I agree, you've got another one there - John Carpenter's The Thing is a classic, probably his best film and easily Kurt Russell's. It's much more faithful to John Campbell's story 'Who Goes There?' than the original movie. It's a shame it bombed when it was released in '82. I don't know whether I want to see the prequel or not, tbh. I can see it being a mess of cgi, where as Rob Bottin's practical effects were what made Carpenter's version truly outstanding. Having said all that, I quite like the original film. Kenneth Tobey was in some cracking sci-fi movies.
  2. D'oh! My previous post should've said "the others come across as outcasts from a soap opera"
  3. No probs, I hope you enjoy it. I think it's excellent. Again!
  4. I haven't been to as many gigs this year as I would usually do. I saw Riverside, Opeth, Pure Reason Revolution, Rush (3 times), and am going to see The Pineapple Thief next week. Wanted to see Amplifier this week but can't do it.
  5. You obviously didn't read my review
  6. Gaaaaaaagh! I just got to the last few pages of Bernard Cornwell's The Winter King when I had to get off the tube! Absolutely loving this book
  7. ...
  8. I thought parts of that film were brilliant. I liked it, but I didn't think it was quite as good as I'd hoped it would be after the first 10 or 15 minutes
  9. This! Also, it's a distinct bonus not having to scramble about for my bookmark if I need to blow my nose I totally agree that there is room for both formats. I think I've read about a 50/50 split between ebooks and treebooks since I got my Kindle last Christmas. I've found the Kindle's great for trying out authors I haven't read before, or for books that I am uncertain about or don't want taking up my limited shelf-space. If it's an author I like, or a series I want to collect, or even just a book with a cover I like, I'll still buy the paperback. Also, as I read a lot of fantasy and historical novels, the Kindle is not great where maps are involved, so I invariably go for the paperback in those cases as well.
  10. Yeah, I've given up too. Just couldn't get into it, and didn't like any of the characters.
  11. The end of 2x07, for the mid-season break, was excellent
  12. It's out on dvd in a couple of weeks, or there's the iPlayer
  13. I had to laugh at the Freeze Frame bit where the Emperor penguins were jumping out of the water straight into the cameraman's lap
  14. Kick-Ass. Loved it!
  15. LOL, would the two of you like to be alone???

  16. LOL, I've already got all the albums, thanks - but you haven't! :)

  17. I'm going to miss them
  18. Went to Pure Reason Revolution's last ever gig last night. Very sad, but they went out on a real high :)

    1. frankie

      frankie

They quit? Too bad for the fans, eventhough I wasn't one. At least you got to see the last ever gig :)

Yeah, they've split. Gutted! Awesome gig last night, though, best I've seen them play.

  19. I recently read The Sisters Brothers - a western with a Coen Brothers feel to it - I thought it was excellent.
  20. Guy Pierce Just cos I remember it doesn't mean I liked it, though Totally agree with you about the remake of Clash. You can't beat Ray Harryhausen Plus they would've had a tough time CGI-ing Harry Hamlin's perm ...
  21. Kate Beckinsale? Yes, yes I entirely agree Can she play Scarlett in her Underworld outfit? I think I have the same reaction - can't stand the bloke Thanks for reminding me about the remake of Planet of the Apes, though - I'd only just managed to obliterate that abomination from my memory
  22. They're still evil Another bit that really amazed me was that caterpillar that doesn't have enough time to consume enough during the summer to enable it to go into its chrysalis - so it freezes solid when the ice returns, then defrosts and eats a bit more, freezes solid again - and keeps doing that for 14 years until it can finally transform! Isn't nature marvellous?
  23. Was Twilight a remake?? Sheesh, I hope the original was better! And yes, Kell, they all died horrible, horrible deaths. Apart from Kong of course, who lived until he made the inevitable sequel
  24. Yay, let me know what you think of it
