  1. I like to discover brand new authors, and I discovered this one when she brought out her first book in 2007 I really like her writing style, her character are interesting and now she has two series to follow Kate Daniels series- 3 books out so far The Edge First book just released Anyone else discovered this author?
  2. So good to see other fans Im going to re-read Dead Witch Walking the first book, so I can post up a review on my blog I've followed it from the start and really like the humour and action in this series. One of the best female lead characters around I think
  3. Is anyone reading her Rachel Morgan series and what do you think of it?
  4. Thanks for the comments left so far on this subject, interesting to see what others thing I did find the review of interest for this book Michelle, its possibly one I could try:)
  5. When I was 12 yrs old , I went from kids books to adult books. There just wasn't anything worth reading in kids books that I didn't find tame. So at 12 I was into James Herbert, King etc. Now I do read more YA books now than I did when I was a kid. And I think fantasy books can work well if they are written well But horror...... They often seem dumbed down to me. I do find the odd series that I like. e.g. Rachel Caine - Morganville Vampires Kelley Armstrong - Dark Powers Thomas E Sniegoski - The Fallen Darran Shan - Saga of Darran Shan There are some fantasy I feel that come up to par too, but very few horror Should authors leave horror alone when it comes to YA books? The whole point of horror is that its suppose to be scary and horrifying
  6. I have to agree with Noll too on this one. I was quite disappointed in some of the characters - mainly vampire ones - in this whole series. I felt the werewolves characters were better written and did at least hint a bit more of danger The relationship between Bell and Edward just got on my nerves in the end. I was fed up to the death of it by the last book. The last book was , hm..... well again spent too much time on Bell and Edwards relationship and consequences of their eventually one night of passion. I can't help but wonder why this story even included vampires and werewolves. It could of been a teen romance and leave any supernatural elements out of it. Probably then I'd not of bothered reading them. Book 1 was OK Book 2 & 3 are better because I felt Jake was a much better character Book 4 - awful
  7. I've mostly read for pleasure. However a couple of years ago, I did do some reviews for a website. Now that started to spoil my pleasure. Some of the books I was asked to review were not very good at all. I don't do reviews now, I don't have time with card making for charity and managing a card group So it's back to reading for pleasure

    Newbie - Rune

Thanks for the welcome folks So right with too many books and too little time. Also I'm and avid card maker, so too many hobbie and too little time
  9. I like Harry Dresden as a character too. He's dry humour just cracks me up and I love that he's not always the good guy I would like to have his cat and dog too
  10. I've not seen the Coraline movie, not sure if I would enjoy it to be honest. I'm a little wary with movies, they don't always come up to par with the book I did enjoy the book mind, great ideas in it
  11. Thanks :D, I thought it was definately me LOL

  12. Thanks for the info, I will go check these out, as Id like to do a book review blog. May be interesting to someone as i read a lot
  13. Ive got 40 to give away too And i live in the part of Cumbria that was affected by floods like year and you cant get far without walking I take a few at a times, so my arms dont end up trailing on the floor!
  14. I forgot to come here and say hi before i plunged into the fantasy reading section Im an avid reader, since a child. And this past few years have been engrossed in fantasy novels, there are so many books on my wanted list Im sure I'll never get them all as it keeps growing:lol:
  15. I discovered this author a couple of years ago, she's not got many out so far. Cal Leandros series there are three books out for this series, and its a bit like Supernatural - two brothers PI's doing supernatural jobs the brothers are a lot different though and their exploits quite different too She's just started a new series The Trickster Only one book out for this so far, its OK, about a Trickster god that is stuck in human form and fighting demons. I enjoyed it , but i prefer the Cal series
  16. the sex isnt explicite compared to other series say like Anita Blake which is basically soft porn No its much more subtle and not as much:mrgreen: She makes the characters sexy without all the porn, and i love that, her male characters in the Dark Jewel series are jummy, in a dark kinda way
  17. I often have to have a clear out of books because of lack of space. Ive only room for 3 books shelves and one box for books So every year i have the hard choice to give away books to charity that i feel ive read enough times over Do others give books to charity alot due to lack of space? And how do you choose which books to let go
  18. I have a crafting blog, but Ive not come across many reading blogs Possibly because ive not really tried to look into it. What im wondering is, are there many members that have a seperate reading blog were they post review and thoughts of the books they read And do you think others would be interested in reading reading blogs:mrgreen:
  19. I've noticed these past few years that some of the books I'm enjoying are a fantasy/horror mix. I couldn't say they were all horror and they don't fit into all fantasy I don't mind as I used to read a lot of horror before I went onto fantasy so in some ways it covers both genres. But I wondered if other fantasy/horror readers liked this trend or would they prefer them kept separate.
  20. I liked Neverwhere as well to be honest, i think sometimes his books are hit and miss. some better than others I fancy his Graveyard Book, see what thats like

    Merlin

Ive just got Season 2 DVD set. Despite it being aimed towards the younger viewers, i personally think its very good The characters make the series, love the creatures and how magic is used and i think the two main characters - Arthur and Merlin are so funny at times
  22. Im so gutted that the last series isnt been shown on a freeview channel yet. So not far that you have to pay! ive been following this since season 1, and i can see the last series dvd set coming out before it even gets to a freeview channel My favourite series has to be the first, the whole family together, they made a great team
  23. this is OK as something to watch, but its not a patch on True Blood I find the characters are a bit lame, its like Twilight, and Im not a big lover of that either
  24. I discovered this series last year when it eventually came on a freeview channel! I love it , the characters are great, and ive since started reading the books Eric is my favourite vamp, i dont think Bill is as interesting
