  1. Wow thanks, a lot of books for me to look out for either on amazon or in my library! I really like the sound of Before I Go to Sleep and Darkest Corner, I know what next month's paycheck will be spent on, treating myself to some new books, to well add to my huge TBR pile! Edit: I do have one of Stieg Larsson's books, the second one I think, I managed to read half of it, but then got distracted by another shiny new book as I often tend to read half a books unless it really gets me interested then I move onto another book forgetting about the one I left behind.
  2. Lol my name would be Lily Brown >.< Anyway I think it makes it all the more confusing for us as readers to distinguish between authors or who we enjoy reading the most. I don't really have that many books with authors that used pseudonyms, but it is a good idea if they need to be distinguished from different genres of books. I can imagine authors like JK Rowling used such a pseudonym to say write historical fiction because she is obviously well known for Harry Potter. (Although I am sad that hp is over now after the last film)
  3. Hey all! I love reading obviously, (why else would I be on a book forum!) Anyway I am dying to find some new books to grip me and enthrall me as a reader. I love general novella, I enjoy historical fantasies, and I enjoy magic and romance. I also love my bit of crime writing. Although my TBR list is longet then my current wishlist, I was hoping for some advice on a new series to well sink my teeth and my small bank balance into! (if not, I can often find good books at my local library anyway) Only thing is, I don't want a book that is too slow to get into the main plot, I want twists, turns and suspense in every chapter, the last book that did that for me that I read in one sitting was No Time For Goodbye by Linwood Barclay. So something crime based/mystery/drama or fantasy or romance would be great! I look forward to reading your recommendations
  4. I've changed my mind, my favourite book of the year also has to be Room by Emma Donoghue
  5. I go to mine on occasion. I find that I will borrow maybe seven or eight books at a time, which my local library allows you to borrow books for three weeks at a time. Luckily I can renew online and reserve online for free which is pretty good. It has a huge selection of books, but I do think that it needs to be a bit more up to date with the books it has. I did used to go to the library reading group and struggled to try and set up a young person's reading group with the library a year or so ago now but life goes on and it never came to fruition. Anyway I use it occasionally because otherwise I'll borrow out lots of books but then never read them and then return them disappointed with myself. So I have lots of books on my TBR pile sat on my bookshelves so time to read those first! However I do rather like the fact that my library had a makeover done to it a few months ago, it is lovely and clean and fresh in the welcoming area now, and I like the fact that they have machines now where you can borrow and return your books. The staff there are friendly and helpful with anything you need, I tried applying there for a job last year but I didn't get it sadly. I really wanted to work there!
  6. I am writing again! :)

  7. I am writing again! :)

  8. I absolutely loved this book and I read it in two days, my mum read it in one day! It is a really gripping read and I can still hear Jake's voice in my head, it made me cry in places too, although a lot of books seem to do that to me these days! Room is definitely a must read if you have not read it, the subject matter is intense but starkingly real. Which makes it easier to read from a five year old's perspective. I will admit from the start I guessed several things, and I read the extract on Amazon but I worked it out in the end. It was a lovely book and I really enjoyed reading it. Could. Not. Put. It. Down! ten out of ten for me
  9. I literally finished this book about a week ago. From cover to cover I was hooked. I could not put it down! I really felt for Emma the most, she tried so DAMN hard with Dexter, and he never realized it until the very end of the book, I felt Emma's frustation keenly as I have been in similair situations myself, although that might be because I am 22 so I can relate to the younger Emma better. I picked this book up on a whim, and I am so glad I read it. It is so different from other love stories out there and it just kept me amused till the end. I so wanted to give Dexter a good old push through most of the book, for him to well wake up and smell the beans and get some responsibility. Funny how a character can both irk you as a reader and yet you can still somehow like them at the end. I really didn't want the end to happen, But all in all as I am picking up more and more general fiction these days, this was a good read. I'd give it a solid 9 out of 10 (one mark being deducted because well, I have yet to find a book to say give it 10 marks!)
  10. I love the tardis! Thanks, Lumiere is definitely one of my faves. I like to do patterns a lot as I can relax and ease my mind by drawing them. I intend to try and develop my own characters a bit more, I am particulary proud of a fairy I drew a while back: Again not the best photo as I took it on my DYING camera :/ Here is some cover art I put together with an old application I had on my mac: I also have other disney characters that I have attempted over the past few years since I started drawing
  11. Keep reading it, it is a really good read!
  12. Hey all, I see there is a thread for this author's previous book which I bought last year, read some of it, then stopped for some unknown reason! I then proceeded to purchase Afterwards about 2 weeks ago. I came home today from work and finished the last 200 pages in about 3 hours. I loved this book, it was amazing from start to finish and really kept me guessing as well as dealing with several different issues, it was a very different and well written take on your typical crime novel. I love crime novels, but I do really enjoy Rosamund Lupton's take on it with family, love and friends that come into Afterwards. I don't know how to do a spoiler thing, so I don't want to reveal too much of what I thought of the ending, but if you've read it and loved it post here! I am going to read Sister now I'll add a synopsis for those who have not read it: There is a fire and they are in There. They are in there . . . Black smoke stains a summer blue sky. A school is on fire. And one mother, Grace, sees the smoke and runs. She knows her teenage daughter Jenny is inside. She runs into the burning building to rescue her. Afterwards, Grace must find the identity of the arsonist and protect her family from the person who's still intent on destroying them. Afterwards, she must fight the limits of her physical strength and discover the limitlessness of love. (Taken from amazon)
  13. Mine so far this year has to be Let The Right One In by John Ajvide Lindqvist. It's so different to all the other vampire books out there and it stayed with me for a long time after I read it. It was brillantly haunting and well written. Apart from that I have not read many books this year so far, but with it being summer I think I'll have to get back into my favourite pastime of sitting in the garden with a cold drink and a good book
  14. This topic makes me sad as an avid reader. I buy books all the time either occasionally from HMV or from an independent bookstore, I really don't think this will mean the end of the book. It's been around too long for it to die out as it were. I have an eReader myself with plenty of books on it, but I hardly use it unless I am travelling somewhere. I just love holding a physical book in my hand and turning the pages as I read. I am a real sucker for car boot sales and local events where books are sold second hand or charity shops, I just know that on Monday I will be coming back home with plenty of second hand books from a local event that I intend to go to! I really hope the book continues to live on, and one of my earliest memories is my mum reading me and my brother a bedtime story, and if I have children one day, I will do the same! My mum has many books and loves reading as much as I do, we often swap books all the time!
  15. I love to draw when I have the time, one of my best pieces is here: It was a bit difficult taking photos of it with my laptop camera, but you get the idea as I do not have a scanner!
  16. I am just over a third of the way through Mind in the Making, I don't normally read a lot of non fiction, but as a childcare practitioner, I love reading books about children's development in order to improve upon my practice. I really love seeing what I've learnt happen at work and trying some of the ideas in the book. I also am learning a lot about others and myself too as I continue to read about the life skills that myself and others in my profession need to teach children
  17. I gave up on 36 arguements, because my head hurt from reading it so I returned it to the library and came out with 5 other books! oops! anyway I decided to read Mind in the Making: The Seven Essential Life Skills Every Child Needs by Ellen Galinsky, which looks interesting and informative, as I do enjoy non fiction, and it might be useful for my job
  18. I'm in the last few weeks of being 21, my birthday is coming up fast! I really do not want to be 22
  19. I manange about 2-3 books a month depending on time, whether I love the book and I am addicted to it so therefore I have to read the whole book to find out what happens, (Love it when I find a book like that) Otherwise I'll take a bit longer with the book, like the one I'm reading at the moment, I can only manage a few chapters every other day or so!

Ah I see, I like Dan Brown, not necessarily The Da Vinci Code, but I did rather enjoy Deception Point and Digital Fortress more so then his more popular ones. I also love Harlan Coben and John Grisham, but I should really try some other crim authors at some point

Hey Knox and welcome, I like crime/thriller books too, are there any particular authors that you like the most?
  22. I have not watched the eurovision for a couple of years now, but it is interesting to watch and I just love it when the commentators say 'nil points' I really hope the UK do much better this year, especially as Blue are a very well established band, and if they are together again after the eurovision I will definitely be buying their CD, they were the boyband I loved the most during my teens and I was very sad when they split up However I am going to a friends tonight for movies and a take away so I'll have to catch up on all the eurovision gossip from the beeb
  23. is so very sleepy.. zzZzzzZ

  24. Happy Birthday Pixie! I have read another few chapters of 36 Arguements for the Existence for God: A Work of Fiction which is interesting so far, but I can only read it in short burst as my brain hurts if I read it for too long! Also I have started reading a Abnormal Psychology textbook that I shamelessly stole from my other half's house, just because I want to study psychology soon, I thought getting a bit of background reading in would be worth my while! Man my brain hurts now
