  1. Thanks mrsmac and poppyshake- great answers from both of you!
  2. Thanks Kidsmum and Tunn300 for your insightful answers! I am struggling to get time to get on the forum today but I will be back around 2am. @ Alexi, at first I wondered about Rex's motives and I thought he was moving in on Maureen, even after he explained how much he had loved his wife I still didn't fully trust him till late in the book....
  3. Thanks Alexi, no worries I think you explained yourself pretty good!
  4. I watched a Brit film, I Give It A Year. I thought it was very funny. Think Anna Farris is starting to be a better actress now.
  5. Thanks bookworm! I agree with some of what you felt about the book, but I didn't mind the way previous events were teased out and released in little bits, that was OK and I felt it fitted with the way thoughts might come on a long walk. I did feel something was odd about the David thing but I don't feel the author could have handled it very much differently. Glad that it got you reading something that was different for you!
  6. It's Tom Baker and David Tennant for me
  7. Hi mrsmac, I will be very interested to hear your opinion. Don't feel you have to answer all the questions. We have rather a lot now!
  8. This is one my list to buy. Sapphire and Steel were awesome. I can't wait to hear what you think of the Railway Station story Michelle. That frightened me half to death as a kid.
  9. Hi Athena thanks. I would say post them, people can answer them or not if they want. All questions are optional anyway, they are just an aid to discussion. I am glad that you enjoyed the book.
  10. Michelle you are really clocking up some Dr Who hours now - impressive!
  11. Welcome Tintag! What sort of books do you like?
  12. It's been in my sights a while. I think I will watch the film first but will certainly take in both.
  13. I found it interesting looking at Warm Bodies in context of the whole evolution of the movie zombie over the last 50 years.....like in Land Of The Dead they started developing rudimentary thoughts again...and in Warm Bodies they are capable of becoming fully human again.
  14. Last 5 weeks with my car....taking the kids as many places as I can.
  15. Welcome to the July Reading Circle discussion. "It is assumed that you have read the book before reading posts in this thread, as the discussion might give away crucial points, and the continuous use of spoiler tags might hinder fluent reading of posts." Hopefully we have all had time to read and digest the book, which I for one found a very satisfying read! Anybody who has not read the book as yet is welcome to join in at a later date. Here are the usual questions to kick off discussion with, and a few I added: 1- Who was your favourite character? 2- Was there a particular part you enjoyed more than the rest? 3- Was this the first book you've read in this genre/ by this author, has it encouraged you to read more? 4- Were there any parts/ideas you struggled with? 5- Overall, was reading the book an enjoyable experience? 6- How important do you think the girl in the garage was? 7- Why do you think strangers who met Harold wanted to help him? 8- Are there any morals to be drawn from the other "pilgrims" who joined Harold? 9- Did he help Queenie in the end at all? 10- Was Harold's Pilgrimage all in vain ?
  16. No but I know someone on here who hates it when it gets called sci-fi
  17. Thanks Athena, a lot of people have told me that Flowers For Algernon is a goodie , it's been sitting in my TBR over a year. Kim Stanley Robinson is an author that has slipped by me , I haven't read anything by him.
  18. I have decided NOT to watch World War Z. After watching the trailer several times it looks like too much of the CGI that I hate, the zombies moving much too fast and just ...really naff. Also can't put my finger on it but Brad Pitt just looks wrong somehow...even my kids have said the same thing.
  19. Haven't seen a Bollywood film for ages. Who is in it?
  20. Just finished Small Island. Awesome book. For July I have decided it will be a SF month. So I have lined up the following treebooks off my shelf: Up The Line Robert Silverberg The Duelling Machine Ben Bova The Rituals Of Infinity Moorcock Flowers For Algernon Daniel Keyes The Mad God's Amulet The Sword Of The Dawn The Runestaff (all Moorcock) The Martians Kim Stanley Robinson if I get any more time I have some steampunk on my kindle
  21. Will try to catch up my reviews at the weekend. Reading Small Island now.
  22. I have Small Island on my TBR. Should I squeeze it in this month kidsmum? It will be my next after my current read.
  23. June is turning out to be a good month. 10 books read and still time to get another 2 books in. Reading Moondust now about the Apollo astronauts.
  24. That was kind of weird chaliepud! Does the system work for anybody who has read some of the nearest names, who can verify?
  25. Is that a 5 year mission to do 5 more films though.......
