In some cases no, if I'm reading a romance I want a happy ending and nothing else will do. If I'm reading a whodunit then yes, I want to be kept guessing. I think writing predictability can kill a good author. Martina Cole is too formulaic, you can't read more than a couple of her books without knowing exactly what the rest will be like.

Thanks Charm:). Glad you like the Anita Blake series. A warning though, it does dissolve into porn. It doesn't bother me - I like cheap thrills but I know not everyone does. I read some of Portrait of Mr W.H. last night and started The Book Thief - Markus Zuzak as some light relief, although light is probably not how you would describe a book set in Nazi Germany and narrated by Death himself.

My sister has managed to do something similar. She moved from the city to a smaller town so that she could bring her children up in a nice area. He husband loves it because he has enough room for chickens and to grow his own vegetables. I'm envious, I would like to do something like that but in truth I'd probably be too lazy to keep it up!
