  1. 1. Who was your favourite character and why? I really liked the boy, Isaiah (sp?) although you never actually meet him. I also like the Mechanic until you find out he was working for them. I thought he seemed like the strong silent type but I didnt think he was stupid. 2. Was there a particular part you enjoyed/disliked more than the rest? I really like the snow science and I really hope it was real and not just made up. I also liked (at least for the first half of the book) the style of writing and the calm and disconnected way Smilla described all that happened to her. I didnt really like the scenes on the boat. I dont know anything about them and I just couldnt picture it although it was described in such great detail. I felt that after a good start the book just didnt sustain its momentum. 3. Was this the first book you've read in this genre/by this author, has it encouraged you to read more? This is the first book Ive read by the author and I dont think I will be reading any more. 4. Were there any parts/ideas you struggled with? I really struggled with the German, as I dont speak it I had no idea what the cook was saying! 5. Overall, was reading the book an enjoyable experience? The first half was enjoyable, the second half not so much.
  2. Good for you! If you've been working out you should try measuring yourself too because you could be losing inches but gaining muscle which weighs more.
  3. I liked the ones with Stavros Flatley in.
  4. That's annoying Chrysalis! I finally finished reading Miss Smilla's Feeling for Snow and I've started Industrial Magic - Kelley Armstrong.
  5. Video Killed the Radio Star - The Buggles EDT - I was too slow ignore me

  10. Glad to be you insiration Nienna
  11. But she's a proper author now. She wrote a book about horses and everyfink. I have to admit I have read one of Katie Price's biographies in my defence I got it for 50p in a second hand shop. I probably would be inclined to pick up a book if a famous person had wrote it even if they were a bit rubbish.
  12. Thanks Kylie!
  13. I'm really starting to see what you mean Kylie about it being a relief when it's finished. I read another 6 chapters last night and although I'm enjoying it, it's hard going. I don't normally have this much trouble getting through modern books but Miss Smilla is giving me a touch of brain ache!
  14. My reading is now more varied than it was. I was a bit too scared to branch out on my own which is why I joined the forum in the first place. So I guess it worked.
  15. Some kind of cake finger thingie.
  16. Up until recently I hadn't read any SK but my OH nagged at me to try The Shining so eventually I gave in and since then I've really enjoyed the ones I have read. I've also read a few DK (although right here and now I can't remember which ones!) but from what I remember they were page turners. So I think I shall make like Mac and sit upon the fence.
  17. I'm on part 4, chapter 2 of Miss Smilla. I seem to be reading this book really slowly. I guess it's just one of those books that won't be rushed.
  18. Pen Animals or children?
