I'm loving Coffin Nail's new one

I'm glad you're enjoying it! It's a big book though so I can see how switching between that and something more bag-friendly is a good idea . I've read it a few times, and honestly I think the first time took me about 2 months at least. It's a lot of story packed in there! Good luck .
Oh, and I loved Great Expectations! I don't remember, have you read Matthew Pearl's 'The Last Dickens?' You might be interested in it since it's historical fiction about Charles Dickens and his book tour he went on in the US and the UK (amoung other things).
Funnily enough peace, I was looking at that book in a shop just the other day! I wish I'd have bought it, it sounds just my kind of read but I wanted to check up on some reviews etc before purchasing! Will look out for it again now though
A few times? I'm mightily impressed! I'll give my thoughts on The Count when I'm further into it

Are you still reading Monte Cristo, Mexicola, or did I miss you finishing it and your thoughts? I hope you liked!
I'm still reading it! I've mainly been reading at work and when I'm out and about so I've been getting through some lighter, bag-friendly reads I'm enjoying The Count, I just think it's going to take me a fair while to finish! Do you remember how long it took you to read?

I'm watching too, Paige. It is so sad.

I have now finished Great Expectations (which I loved) and started The Loving Spirit by Daphne Du Maurier.

Both my parents would encourage me in my reading, and I was regularly treated to new books and spent many an afternoon in the children's section of the library.
They would read to me too. My dad would choose the most dramatic of my books so that he could put on voices and unleash his previously unappreciated acting skills

I have 6 or 7 Dickens novels and have never really quite enjoyed any of them. I can't put my finger on why, though! You seem to read a lot of 19th C lit, do you not think there was just so much better from that period?
This is my first proper read of a Dickens novel and although at times I've found it a bit hard going (I've been reading it since April on and off!) I've ultimately found it an enjoyable and rewarding read. Sure, there are other 19th century classics which I prefer, however, I think I'll have to try out a couple more Dickens works before I can begin to agree with you! Is Great Expectations one of the ones you've read?
I'm glad you're enjoying Great Expectations. I loved it too.
Thanks! I'm about to read some more now

I'm aiming to finish Great Expectations before progressing with The Count of Monte Cristo. I'm onto the third volume and very much enjoying the story; last night I even had a dream about Pip!

I adored the film (1995 version) when I was younger and am quite surprised that I missed out on reading the book! If I come across it, I'm definitely going to pick it up. Just thinking about a certain part of the film brings tears to my eyes! I'd like to read The Secret Garden too as that was another of my favourite childhood films.
Great review, Kate

Ponyo
What a nice little film (I was reminded several time of Totoro, which has to be a good thing!).
I can't wait to see Ponyo I'm going to either buy or rent it very soon. (I loved Totoro too!)

I just made an Amazon order and Vlad: The Last Confession by C.C. Humphreys managed to sneak its way into my basket
Meanwhile, I'm still reading the Count of Monte Cristo and dipping in and out of Great Expectations when the mood takes me (or when I can't fit The Count in my bag!)

I couldn't ask for better recommendations for the book, thanks guys! I've only read a few pages so far but due to an impromptu night in on my lonesome, I plan to get stuck in tonight I've not read Three Musketeers yet but I'm sure it'll work it's way onto my TBR pretty soon!
Hope you're both well and enjoying your current reads
