I don't know if this is true or not, but I wonder if the water consumption also has something to do with the fact that you are swallowing something. Sometimes, even if your stomach doesn't need food your brain wants to consume something. Maybe that water helps to satiate that urge to consume. Again... just a theory... no idea if its true.
