  1. Thanks for that ScarletBella . Sounds like I have missed quite a lot, will be seeking these out in the library asap .
  2. Just updated my TBR and wishlist I got Stephen King's Cell from the library this week and made me realise it is only the 3rd (I think) of his books I have read. So eager to plug this gap in my reading can anyone recommend any of his books? The ones i've read so far are The Stand and Misery and enjoyed both of them.
  3. I bought a copy in 2000 after seeing it on Oprah's Book Club but only got to read it last year. A beautiful book (love the cover too) definitely a keeper
  4. Wouldn't recommend Murder Suicide - Keith Ablow The Dead - Ingrid Black Breath, Eyes, Memory - Edwidge Danticat But Inside I'm Screaming - Elizabeth Flock A Quiet Belief In Angels - R.J. Ellory The Resurrectionist - James Bradley probably loads more but these recent reads spring to mind.
  5. After a trip to the library today my TBR pile has now gone UP to 104 .
  6. Sorry I just couldn't get into it .
  7. I had this problem recently with The Historian and after my second attempt to get past the first few chapters I gave up. It is now in my To Go pile as there are too many books waiting to be read . It would depend on why I gave up on a book though as to whether I gave it another chance. Last year I couldn't get into One True Thing by Anna Quindlen but I love her books and know there was too much going on at the time so it just went back onto the TBR mountain for the future.
  8. Came across a review for this book recently and have added it to my 'must buy ASAP' list . Reading this thread has prompted me to order it today from Amazon so thank you .
  9. I recently read The Library of Shadows by Mikkel Birkegaard and would recommend it From Amazon: The Library of Shadows Imagine that some people have the power to affect your thoughts and feelings through books. They can seduce you with amazing stories, conjure up vividly imagined worlds, but also manipulate you into thinking exactly what they want you to. When Luca Campelli dies a sudden and violent death, his son Jon inherits his second-hand bookshop, Libri di Luca, in Copenhagen. Jon has not seen his father for twenty years since the mysterious death of his mother. When Luca
  10. Well i've finally finished this and have to say I am a little disappointed. I've read nearly all the Inspector Banks series and this is one of the weakest so far. I just didn't buy that Banks would keep on for so long about an apparently open and shut case, with so little evidence to the contrary. At times I felt it was almost Banks wants to be 007 and the incident towards the end of the book just doesn't really fit in. Overall if this was the first of Peter Robinson's books i'd read it would be my last but he can do a lot better so I will stick with him . Only 5 out of 10 though.
  11. The first few are brilliant I've stopped reading them at about number 10 but the early ones are always worth re-reading.
  12. I love Angel and Edward but I think my favourite to read about (rather than drool over) is Jean Claude from the Anita Blake books.
  13. I usually have 2 books on the go at any one time plus whatever text books I need to be reading. I had this conversation ages ago with a friend who couldn't understand how I could do that but, as I said, she follows more than one soap on tv and doesn't get confused
  14. I have read a few books in one sitting but not for a while. Used to read in bed to finish a book till 4 or 5 am and then get up at 7 to go to work! Don't think I could manage that now
  15. Loved the Book Cave not sure how comfortable it would be though. Been looking at the Book Seat on Amazon and am so tempted to get one.
  16. Well I certainly love books :) Other forums i've visited have small book club sections but I think i've really found my home here :D

  17. Yes thank you :D I spent most of yesterday listing my books online in my reading list and then sorting them on my shelves. I love that I have found a place where that is not considered a complete waste of time ;).

  18. Typed book forum in Google and here I am
  19. Thanks Adam when I get to grips with all this I will . For the last few years i've just kept a list (database on pc ) of books i've read with just a comment by them such as excellent, very good, disappointing etc but would like to try and share some more thoughts in the future. One thing that does strike me is how many books are on my TBR pile . I have only bought 5 new fiction books in the last 18 months as I have been making myself go to the library instead. Think I will seriously have to tackle this TBR pile though, there could be some real gems in there i'm missing .
  20. I remember reading The Rats as a teenager but don't think i could read something like that now! Some of his early books are brilliant though, genuinely scary.
  21. Wasn't sure if I liked this for the first episode but stuck with it and it has grown on me Definitely darker than the books though.
  22. I used to finish every book I started but now think life is too short to waste on book i'm not enjoying. I will usually give it 80-100 pages (depending on the length of the book) and if it hasn't grabbed me by then I will skim read the rest or if it's really bad just put it down. Also, I find if i've just finished a really good book I either have to give it a day or so before starting another or read a different genre. Otherwise I may not be able to get into the book as still thinking about the last one. Is this just me, am I weird?
  23. I really like Marian Keyes but also like Jane Green. I loved Jill Mansell's early books but not been tempted by the last few. Sometimes I think author's write too many books too quickly and they seem to lose that spark.
  24. I read one of the Rebus books a few years ago and thought it was only ok. Think I might give them another go now as i've seen a few of them in my local library.
  25. Wish List - So many books... Case Histories
