  1. Hi Roxi. Just dropped by to say I hope you're well and that you have excellent taste in books. I'm almost in awe and not a little intimidated.

Are you planning a very relaxing summer?

  2. Absolutely right, Roxi. All three of these emotionally charged me, became a part of me. I love it when books do that. The Time Traveller's Wife got me a bit weepy, as did The Book Thief and...well...what can I say about The Historian? Wonderful, absorbing and blooming creepy! Magical.

Morning! Thought I'd drop in to say 'Hi'. How're you doing, and is your mum on the up-and-up?

    Hope you're okay. :friends0:

  4. Hiya Kate. Well, my GF is trying very hard to make things work, which is nice, but I'm finding things quite difficult on that front (I'm a bit messed up, currently!) but I'll sort myself out soon. I'm thinking of trying some Hypnotherapy again, 'cos it worked really well last time - it's just really expensive.

I'll finish my application for the job this weekend, so fingers crossed, eh! It could be another two years before I get into the police force, so I have to go for this job - I'm losing my mind where I am at the moment!

Are you planning any lovely trips away this year? I'm hoping to get down to Cornwall towards the end of the year. It gets really wild down there. Love it.

    Have a great weekend.

  5. You're still banging through them quicker than I can shake a stick, Rach! By the way, I loved Chocolat. I hope you do, too! How's tricks, chum?
  6. Mac

Hey there. I noticed you are reading The Interpretation Of Murder. It's a great book. I hope you're enjoying it and that you're very well.

    Toodles.

I'm alright, thanks. I'm in the middle of applying for a new job - I was approached by the headteacher of a large Secondary school who suggested that he would like me to work for him. It's a mix of working with challenging kids, Duke of Edinburgh Award and performing arts - everything I do. Same money, less hours and school holidays! And a lunch hour! It's a no-brainer, really.

So, you have trouble sleeping regularly? I hope you slept better last night.

Crikey! You were up late last night! I hope you're okay, Paula. I mean, look at me. It's nearly half-ten and I'm off to beddy-byes to read already...tut...

Toodle-pip, for now, my friend. Toodle-pip.

  9. Wahey! I've read Twisted and finished it today. What a brilliant collection of short stories. I've done a bit of a review thingy on Mac Reads 2009. I loved it. I'm now hoping I can be a Deaverette - I've got my tu-tu out of the loft and washed my leotard in preparation...
  10. Twisted by Jeffrey Deaver I have been vowing to read this fellow for a long, long time and so, rooting through my book shelves, I picked up the first one I lay my hands upon and commenced reading. Imagine my surprise and pleasure when I discovered that it was a book of his short stories! What better way to get acquainted with his style! And what a style! Each story was magnificently crafted, reeling me in from the very start of each one, keeping me wrapped in the prose until he surprises you with his twist - and, the thing is, he really did keep on surprising me. I'm not just any old daft bloke that wouldn't know his harris from his elbow, but I could not guess the outcome of (dare I say it?) any of them. This puts my brain to shame... I am very much looking forward to reading further books by him. I wonder if his novels are as punchy and gripping? I'm guessing they will be. 9.5/10 Brilliant.

Blimey! Houses are cheap round your neck of the woods...!

I am coming down to Porthleven later on in the year, so I suggest that you save the entire

  13. Ooh, and there're so many more where those come from. What a wonderful time you have ahead of you, old boy!

  14. The Crimson Petal And The White is awesome! Michel Faber is a legend. All his books are brilliant. Nice one, Dan. Enjoy!

  15. Snap! My bank balance is dropping at the same speed as my pile gets higher...

Evening, fella. Just popping in to see how you feel your exams have gone. I hope you're okay with how you've done. What's the plan for next year? Any ideas? I could do with a few myself!

I think I'm going to be moving jobs in September and starting work in a secondary school, working with the challenging students. Should be fun.

So. Hope all's well, chap, and you're enjoying a well earned break.

    Cheers! Mac.

  17. I adored this book. I'm so pleased you enjoyed it, Rach. 9.5/10!!! It's terribly moving in places, isn't it?!? Hope you're well, my friend.
  18. Ahoy, there, Kate! Just dropping by to say hello and see how you're doing. I have been extraordinarily busy, of late. This weekend I have been to my aunty's 50th birthday party. Many of us are obliged to do a 'turn' at these things, and of course I had to acquiesce to her wishes. However, the 'entertainment' was pretty much abysmal and the do was not something I enjoyed. I just wanted to drive home!

Which is where I am now. I've been head-hunted for a job working with challenging kids in a secondary school in a run-down area, which I'm probably going to take. So this is good news. It's for the same money, but with less hours and longer holidays, so I'd be a mug not to take it.

I hope you're very, very well and happy, that you're having an excellent time with your boyfriend and that work has ceased to be quite the stress-inducing experience you were finding it.

    Take good care, my friend.

  19. Nice! I think The Girl Who Played With Fire is even better than The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Sounds like the perfect way to spend the summer - but watch out for the wasps!

    Rwemad 2009

I'm really glad you liked it. The next two are The Lonely Dead and Blood Of Angels. Again, strange titles, but there you are. This guy really is one of my favourite authors. Great review, Rwemad!
  21. Mac

Oooh! Paula! That book sounds ace! I'll go and grab that one tomorrow, thank you. How have you been? We've not chatted for ages (I've been rubbish!). How's life?

I hope you're very, very well. Big hugs. :friends0:

  22. Oooh...additional...this is my 600th post! Go, me!
  23. I'm not sure that this is my 'bag', Kelly. I've never been that into Fantasy. I notice you're reading one of the Dexter books. I'm going to have a go at that very soon. A friend of mine, Maria, is nagging me to read a Karin Slaughter book, so it'll be after I've done that. Pip pip.
  24. Good grief! You're reading almost one a day! I must have special needs - which means that at work it's like the blind leading the blind (mind you, my colleagues would have told you this years ago!)
  25. There are related characters, but to tell you more would spoil things a little. So you should be fine without re-reading TSOTW. Oooh, Kelly, it is a brilliant book. You'll love it.
