Morning Paula. You were up really late/early last night. Everything okay? I used to really struggle sleeping. It's awful. Used to drive me bats. Hope you're okay, mate.

  2. I'm not too sure whether I would like this genre very much - the thought of it doesn't make me want to try and get hold of any books about the subject. I'll say this quietly now - I don't think I could bear to even pick up a twighlight novel - Shhhh, don't tell anyone. What do you think, Paula? I admit to enjoying Buffy and Angel, which my ex-wife forced upon me and got me addicted to, but that's about as far as my enjoyment of vampires and werewolves goes. Should I try anything along these lines? I'm open to your suggestions, 'cos you know my tastes. Hope you're very well.
  3. Hiya Sarah. It's been a while. Just popping by to see how you are. Hope all is good with you, chum. Toodles for now.

Updated once more. I can't believe I left out Phillip Pullman's books! I can be such a zeeb sometimes...
  5. Blindsighted by Karin Slaughter The sleepy town of Heartsdale, Georgia, is jolted into panic when Sara Linton, paediatrician and medical examiner, finds Sibyl Adams dead in the local diner. As well as being viciously raped, Sibyl has been cut: two deep knife wounds form a lethal cross over her stomach. When a second victim is found, crucified, only a few days later, it becomes clear that Sybil's brutal murder wasn't a one-off attack. What Sara and police chief Jeffrey Tolliver are dealing with is a seasoned sexual predator. A violent serial killer... Okay. For a long while I have been put off reading this author purely because of her name. Pathetic, isn't it? The reason I picked this book up is because I have been lending and passing books on to a friend of mine (well, not passing books on, per se...more like buying them for her) for some time and she has been nagging me to read this one. So, in the end, I relented. And I'm not disappointed. I found the novel gripping, even found it stopping me turning the light off to go to sleep so I could read just one more chapter...I liked the characters, both rounded and believable, I enjoyed the plot and I enjoyed the pace. Yes, I guessed 'whodunnit' quite early into the book, but this didn't spoil it too much - in fact, when the culpable party was revealed, it was almost in such a way that you felt the author was saying 'You already knew this, though'. I didn't feel that she believed her readers were morons. All in all, quite a good thriller, and I'll certainly read the next one, Kisscut before too long. I think I'm going to read The Other Hand by Chris Cleave next. We'll see how that goes. 7/10 - worth having a look at if you like character-driven serial killer crime fiction.
  6. I'll definitely have to have a look at this guy, Paula. I should have bought one yesterday (I went crazy in Waterstone's and bought 10 new books!), but became overwhelmed with all the goodness in there!
  7. I bought Darkly Dreaming Dexter today. Looking forward to reading it. You guys wax rhapsodic about it so much, I just had to buy it.
  8. Hey! Happy birthday! Woohoo! :sign0072::balloons:

    Your sports

Roxi, you're a legend. I had the nickname 'Allsports' at school. Because I was rubbish at all sports.
  10. You know, this is a book I would read again. I like the characters, I like the style and I love a good thriller. Enjoy yourself, Ben.

'Tis sunshine and chocolate up here, also. I realised my hair was receding when it started taking longer to wash my face.

I shaved all my hair off one drunken evening with my ex-wife (well, she wasn't my ex-wife at the time - in fact, we weren't even engaged!) back in 1997, so now I don't even know if I'm properly bald because I'm intentionally bald...

At least, that's what I tell people...Have a great day, friend.

  12. Ooh, I should have read that I could have eight people...I might revise my list...

Morning, fella. Have you gone wild with your winnings yet? How're tricks in my favourite county?

    Hi everybody

Hello Eliza, and good welcome to you. I get beaten up at Karate every Monday - 'tis a curious past time... You'll enjoy it here.
  15. Hi Ben. The Hundredth Man is a cracking good read, being the start of a series following the same characters. I think you'll find it absorbing, exciting and that it takes a fresh perspective on the crime thriller genre. I always look forward to a new Jack Kerley novel coming out (note that he now writes as J.A.Kerley!). P.S. Alba...mmmm...
  16. I do. Hundreds and hundreds.
  17. Mine would be: Rob Brydon (genius); Jeremy Hardy (very randomly funny); Cate Blanchette (beautiful, intelligent, witty and (did I say?) beautiful; Matthew Paris (a hero of mine) and, just for me, so she can sit next to me and hang about with me after everyone's gone, Zooey Deschanel *sighs*
  18. Ahoy there! How's life in the East? I hope you're having plenty of fun!

    Happy days.

  19. Oooh, I really need to buy these books...
  20. Quite so, my friend. You should browse my bookshelves - I ought to figure out a way of presenting a virtual tour...
  21. I'm in total agreement with you. I love both books and film, and generally can detach myself from the two when I've read the book then watched the film. A couple of good cases would be I Am Legend and Yes Man. Thoroughly enjoyed both mediums. LOTR is awesome in both mediums. Awesome.
  22. Great review, Michelle. I might give this one a go - I'm going to Waterstone's this morning to spank my bank account further!

Up late again, Paula. Everything alright? Hope you're okay, mate. :friends0:

  24. What a curious post, Logan01... to the BCF, Eliza. You'll be very happy on here. Everyone is very lovely. I'm sure you'll find lots of recommendations and great reviews to further boost your TBR pile (To Be Read). My pile is currently the size of Ben Nevis in Scotland.
  25. Great review, Charm. I'm really looking forward to reading this guys novels now I've read his shorts (stories, not underpants). I'm intrigued about how he makes a successful series about a paraplegic, about how he gets the action in. Which one do I start with? Hope you're very well.
