  1. I saw No Country for the first time the other night. It was better than I thought it was going to be based on what I had heard. Loved Fargo as well, awesome movie.
  2. Yeah, it seems that Avatar is most likley to win Best Picture which is a shame IMO. To me it just didn't have the characters and the plot to warrant the status that it is receiving.
  3. Glad to hear you liked 'The Book Thief' mate, it was one of my favourites from last year.
  4. I'm about 120 pages through 'The Secret History'. Enjoying it so far, just wish I had a bit more time to read.
  5. Yep, it doesn't bother me one bit either.
  6. Avatar is favourite for best picture which I don't agree with. The visual aspect of the film is impressive but I think as a piece of art, it is fairly ordinary. I haven't seen 'The Hurt Locker' yet, but I loved Inglourious Basterds. My favourite Tarantino film, it would be my pick. At least Waltz will get Best Supporting Actor. He was incredible in that role.
  7. Glad to see the reading is going well Kylie. You are a machine.

WAR ROGER!!!! How good is this guy? It is ridiculous.
  9. I finished 'The Loop' by Nicholas Evans last night. Pretty decent, I rated it 8/10. I have now started 'The Secret History' by Donna Tartt. It feels like it has been on my list of books to read forever and I have never actually gotten round to reading it, so I have decided to rectify that.
  10. First time for everything I guess Kylie. I've seen the first two series of 'True Blood', although I do have Fox. The show is fantastic IMO, and improves on the books. You can dl them or just buy the series on DVD, well worth it IMO.
  11. Cheers Mac, same to you. I think it was one of your recommendations that side-tracked me from 'The Secret History' originally. So yeah, it is kind of all your fault.
  12. Hey Ben, yeah I'm good, hope all is well with you. First week back at work after holidays right now so that is always tough. Its hot as hell over here at the moment which I'm guessing isn't exactly a massive problem for you guys over there. Hope you enjoy your reading in 2010 and have a great year all round. I really have got to read this. Everyone seems to love it and it has been sitting on my pile for close to a year. I think I will start it after I'm done with 'THe Loop'. Cheers poppy, I think I'm going to pick that book up the next time I raid The Book Depository. I'd steal it. It isn't like you haven't given her fair chance.
  13. Haha, that's funny because it is actually the opposite for me. THe people I know that have read both actually preferred THAR or 'THe Shifting Fog' as it is known over here to 'THe Forgotten Garden'. The Forgotten Garden is great though, I'm sure you will enjoy it.
  14. No I haven't. I think I read a really positive review for 'The Madonna of the Almonds' on here which prompted me to put it on my wishlist. I'm really looking forward to buying and reading Fear and Loathing and the Great Gatsby as well. Enjoy Kate Morton. I have only read 'The Forgotten Garden' so far but I loved it.
  15. Cool. My girlfriend read and really enjoyed 'Perfume' so I am looking forward to that one. I really enjoyed 'I, Claudius', but I read it a few years back when I was studying ancient history at University. I have been meaning to get around to 'Claudius the God' but never actually have. It will definately happen this year.
  16. Hey Nightwish. Yeah I have - 'The Girl in Times Square', last year. I liked it so I googled some of her others and liked the sound of them.
  17. For sure. I read 60 last year, but I am a lot busier now so I am only aiming for 30. It will still be a bit of a challenge though I think.
  18. I have started a new thread for the new year. Below is the link to my old one: http://bookclubforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=8091

  20. Thats great to hear! I enjoyed season 3 for sure but I long for the awesome days of season 1. Episode 3 of Season 4 was on the other day and I', liking the way its panning out. Back to the good old days of the mental serial killer!

  21. I have around 100 pages left in 'The Empty Chair'. Hoping to finish over the weekend.
  22. Which season is that? I'm in Australia and we have only just started the 4th season. I enjoyed the third one, but the first is still the best IMO. The whole game between him and the ice truck killer was just wicked.

  23. I haven't read the book but I absolutely love the musical.
  24. I am about half way through 'The Empty Chair' by Jeffrey Deaver. I just finished two weeks holiday and I got a fair bit of reading done. Finished a few books - some good some not so good.
  25. Rewatched Primal Fear last night. Awesome, awesome film.
